6. CCTC-The Writing Revolution Book Study

Program: Cortland County Teacher Center

Audience: K-12 Teachers

Have you ever wished for a practical guide to teach writing? What if that guide took the mystery out of learning to write well? Authors Judith C.Hochman and Natalie Wexler write, "The Writing Revolution (TWR) is as much a method of teaching content as it is a method of teaching writing. There's no separate writing block and no separate writing curriculum. Instead, teachers of all subjects adapt TWR's strategies and activities to their preexisting curriculum and weave them into their content instruction." Build your writing toolbox as The Writing Revolution identifies six different principles that take the reader from sentence writing, to grammar, and finally to writing process, planning, and revising. The book is helpful for teachers of all grades and content areas. The self-paced online course will offer 10 CTLE hours upon completion. There are 5 one-hour instructor led online sessions. Up to 5 additional CTLE hours will be offered for participation in the online sessions.

Get ready to learn fun and creative ways to infuse physical activity into your classroom setting. Providing students with opportunities to move is critical, now more than ever! This experience will have you embracing the importance of classroom integrated movement and will leave you with the confidence to infuse active learning regularly with your students.

This is a 45-minute immersive workshop for faculty and staff delivered in the classroom setting with students. Since you don't leave your classroom, you'll know immediately which activities are suitable for teaching your students in their regular learning environment, and you'll get on-the-spot help for problem-solving challenges and limitations. Nick will provide access to online resources for new ideas you can utilize after the session. All regular classroom staff should plan to participate- up to 8 classroom staff (principal, co-teachers, therapists, TAs, aides, etc.) in one session. Participants will receive CTLE credit from the Teacher Center. Faculty and staff will sign an attendance sheet for credit, student information will not be collected.

Outcomes: - Participants will embrace the importance of allowing students to move throughout the day. - Participants will learn physical activity strategies appropriate for their classroom.

April 25th Nick will be at Freeville Elementary School and April 26th he will be at Cassavant Elementary School.
