20. NYSCAME Suffolk- Feldenkrais for Musicians with Dr. Stephen Gorgone

In this workshop, participants will be guided through various movement sequences in order to improve their mobility and better integrate their nervous and muscular systems. There will be discussions on the pertinent concepts of the Feldenkrais Method, its application to our well-being as musicians, and its methodology as applicable to improving one's teaching. Participants should expect to leave feeling relaxed, revitalized with a greater sense of agency, and with the resources needed to continue improving oneself as an individual and as a teacher.

28. NYSCAME Suffolk- Demystifying the Double Bass with Dr. Kristin Benson

Key points of double bass playing will be discussed, including the basics of how to hold, carry, and tune the bass. We will also examine the differences between French and German bow grips, forming a proper left-hand position, and clarifying the difference between the two different schools of fingering systems that teachers may encounter in student bass repertoire. Suggestions for NYSSMA solos at each level as well as recommendations for bass scale fingerings will be offered to all participants.
