Before diving into mathematical teaching practices such as problem based learning, or direct standards aligned instruction, it is crucial to establish a strong foundation in mathematical concepts. This can be achieved by adopting a growth mindset and meaningful fluency practices. This two-part series will lean into the work of Jo Boaler to examine some of the big ideas in developing a mathematical mindset in your classroom such as: 1.) understand how to develop "rich tasks" that help important math concept processing, 2.) explore ways to plan for depth in mathematical thinking over speed to increase math conceptual fluency, and 3.) support a math classroom that lets students "run wild with ideas" for math to think critically. Join us in discovering why manipulatives, redirecting, and celebrating mistakes can make learning in your mathematics classroom authentic, with readily available free resources to explore. These sessions are geared for grades K-12.
