1. [PD Your Way] Unpacking the NYS CS/Digital Fluency Standards (Online)

The New York State K12 Computer Science and Digital Fluency Learning Standards were adopted by the Board of Regents in December 2020 and beginning September 2021, districts will be encouraged to focus on curriculum development, resource acquisition, and professional development. This three hour session will effectively "unpack" the key concepts and subconcepts K-12. Successful completion of this course will help participants anticipate how these standards can be addressed in various disciplines.
NOTE:
This course is 100% online and will take approximately 3 hours to complete. This course begins on July 21, and participants have until August 11 to complete all required assignments and activities to receive CTLE credit.

2. [PD Your Way] New Google Classroom/Meet Essential Features (Online)

If you are in a Google district, you probably noticed some big changes to their apps during the past school year. Because of the pandemic, use of the Google platform and its corresponding apps grew tremendously. With that jump in usage came some observations and suggestions as to how the platform could better serve the needs of educators,and remain competitive with other learning management systems. In this online course, you will learn about the big (and not-so-big) changes that have been made to Classroom and Meet, and you'll be guided in how to best set up your Google Classes for success in the upcoming year.
NOTE:
This course is 100% online and will take approximately 3 hours to complete. This course begins on August 2, and participants have until August 16 to complete all required assignments and activities to receive CTLE credit.

3. Virtual Field Trip: Exploring Primary Resources with the Rockefeller Archive Center

The RAC located in Sleepy Hollow, New York is a major repository and research center for the study of philanthropy and its impact throughout the world. It's Archival Education Program develops flexible archive-based projects and units for grades 3-12. Are you interested in doing more with your students with primary resources? The RAC is free, and often partners with local districts in meaningful ways. In this virtual field trip, we'll spotlight a teacher from Pocantico Hills CSD who, in partnership with RAC staff and resources, developed a primary source unit: "The War of the Worlds, Fake News, and Media Literacy." This virtual field trip is a collaborative effort between the Rockefeller Archive Center, Pocantico Hills CSD, and the LHRIC Model Schools program.

7. Minecraft EDU Institute

Minecraft is known as a "blocky sandbox in a virtual world". The Education Edition provides teachers with additional features and safeguards for classroom use. This three part series presents teachers with skills to support students as they create and build within instructional worlds.
  • Session 1: The Why and What of Minecraft
  • Session 2: Understanding the in-world experience.
  • Session 3: Classroom mode; interact with your students while hosting multiplayer games.
    NOTE: Minecraft Education Edition is included in Microsoft A3/A5 district licensing. Participants should consult with their district administration to ensure proper access prior to registration.

  • 8. [PD Your Way] Reflect and Refine (Online)

    Registrants will be invited to reflect on classroom management and routines, or a unit of study from the 2020/21 school year. Throughout this course, you will be presented with a research based series of prompts that will help you refine your practices and ensure technology tools being used help students meet their learning/classroom objectives. This course offers participants 1:1 coaching on your time. No appointment scheduling, no substitutes needed, no time away from your students. Each section is limited to 7 teachers.
