You don't have to be an artist to sketchnote! Teach students how to doodle their way to building a visual connection from their existing background knowledge to the new material through sketchnoting. NOTE: This course is 100% online and will take approximately 6 hours to complete. This course begins on October 18, and participants have until October 28 to complete all required assignments and activities to receive CTLE credit. Newsela offers non fiction articles on current events to myths and legends. Adjustable Lexile levels are available for every text (and quiz). Assessment features offer a flexible way for students to demonstrate what they've learned, to practice their close reading skills, and to use their writing to analyze and discuss what they've read. The Buck Institute for Education (https://www.pblworks.org/) identifies seven key design elements of project based learning: challenging problem or question, sustained inquiry, authenticity, student voice and choice, reflection, critique and revision, and creating a public product. As we return to in-person instruction, you may be looking for ways to reconnect and re-engage students in highly social and collaborative environments, and combat "screen fatigue” while still using technology in meaningful ways. This three hour online workshop will present a practical approach to designing, managing and assessing PBL projects and mini-projects, supported by various examples and planning templates.
NOTE: This course is 100% online and will take approximately 3 hours to complete. This course begins on October 20, and participants have until November 10 to complete all required assignments and activities to receive CTLE credit. 4. Unpacking CS/Digital Fluency Standards (ONLINE)

The New York State K12 Computer Science and Digital Fluency Learning Standards were adopted by the Board of Regents in December 2020 and beginning September 2021, districts will be encouraged to focus on curriculum development, resource acquisition, and professional development. This three hour session will effectively help you "unpack" the key concepts and subconcepts K-12. Successful completion of this course will help participants anticipate how these standards can be addressed in various disciplines.

Spaces - whether indoors, outdoors, virtual, or in person - are worth considering as part of the instructional design process. There's also an intrinsic value to being outdoors: it's good for students' social, emotional, and mental well-being, even more so as they return to school after several traumatic months. Having students learning outdoors is not new, and mobile technology has given all of us plenty of reasons to enjoy the great outdoors. In this second of a series focusing on learning outdoors with technology, we will dive deeper into using Goosechase and Geocaching apps in various disciplines.

In this online course, you will go on a journey through Nearpod that culminates in creating a usable lesson for your classroom. 8. The 1:1 Classroom: Now What? (ONLINE)

In this 3 hour course, participants will be exposed to strategies that maximize the benefits of a 1:1 Chromebook classroom. The course will consist of readings, videos and discussions, with plenty of examples that can be modified for your own use. An optional "live” session will be held each week for those interested.
