is an approved course for a New York State Boating Safety Certificate, now required for all
operators of mechanically propelled boats (age 14 or over to operate a personal watercraft, age
10 and over to operate any other mechanically propelled boat). The course, for ages 10 and up,

boating: introduction to types of boats, boating rules and regulations, boat safety equipment,
safe boating practices, navigation, trailering, water sports safety, PWC operation, adverse
conditions, emergencies, radio communications, and knots. Family members wishing to share a
manual may do so. Five sessions: four 2-hour classes plus exam in fifth class.
