Have you wanted to try yoga, but getting up and down from the floor seems daunting? Many others have that same feeling, and this class is for you! We will work on strength, flexibility, and balance using a chair for support. No need to avoid yoga anymore! Wear comfortable clothing. 6 classes.

3. Zumba Toning Session 4

Program: West Genesee Adult Ed

Dates: 4/8/2024 to 5/20/2024

Zumba Toning follows the same party-inspired principles of a Zumba class, but with added resistance to help tone and sculpt the body. Each movement has a purpose and focuses on specific muscle groups. Toning incorporates 1-3 pound weights, you can also do the class without weights if you choose and still get the benefits of a good toning workout. 6 classes.

4. Medicare Educational Seminar Session 4

Turning 65? New to Medicare? Already have Medicare and confused with all the choices available? Attend this seminar to learn how to navigate the Medicare waters. Learn how and when to enroll and when changes can be made. Learn about how Medicare Part A, Part B and Part D work alone or with Medicare Supplemental Insurance or Medicare Advantage Plans. The NYS EPIC prescription drug program will also be discussed. No products will be sold or offered for sale. This is strictly an educational event. 5. Creepy Cryptids: The Search for Strange and Unexplained Creatures

Investigate strange creatures and UFO's. How do cryptozoologists distinguish between Sasquatch, the Abominable Snowman, and Wild Men of legend? Is the Loch Ness monster really a plesiosaur? What's the difference between shapeshifters and skinwalkers? You be the judge after hearing stories of monster sightings and alien encounters. Magician, ghost hunter, and cryptozoologist Ron Cain discusses strange creatures of land, sea, and air, such as Hopkinsville goblins, the Mothman, Thunderbird, Kraken, and Chupacabra. Students will learn about Out-Of-Place Animals (OOP), including Devil Monkeys and Alien Big Cats (ABC) as well as a tiny human species nicknamed Hobbits on the Indonesian Island of Flores. Are we the children of ancient aliens? What are the signs that you may have been abducted by aliens and don't even know it? Find out. Discover forgotten memories of paranormal experiences and cryptid encounters using a simple technique with ordinary cards. Also, students will discover their totem cryptid and how it can be used to their advantage. If cryptids and paranormal phenomena are real, why are they so hard to prove? Theories about supernatural hot spots, interference by ancient aliens and the connection between cryptid sightings and dimensional portals will be examined. 1 class.

6. Fitness for Active, Older Adults

If you haven't exercised in a while or would like a gentle exercise class to get in shape. This class is designed with easy to follow moves with or without a chair. Emphasis is on increasing flexibility, strength, range of motion, overall body conditioning and balance. The format of the class includes a warmup with breathing exercises, main theme of the day with final stretch with balance exercises and guided relaxation. Come join the fun and get moving. 6 classes.

7. Sourdough for Beginners -April 16

Think baking fresh, homemade sourdough bread at home is complicated? Come find out how easy it is to make your own delicious bread with 3 simple ingredients. Students will be shown how to care for their sourdough starters; how to make bread from scratch and get a foolproof guide to create your own tasty treats at home. Students will leave with an active sourdough starter and a guide to take home PLUS samples of homemade bread to snack on while watching a live demonstration. Please bring a small mason jar to take your starter home in! 1 class.

8. Mat and Vertical Pilates with Weights

It is with an emphasis on core strength as an effective way for the whole body to stand, to sit, to move and to improve flexibility and functional fitness: as well as foster a mind-body connection with movement that matters. For more of a challenge, bring your own 3 or 5 pound hand weights. It is exercise with a purpose for all ages and all fitness levels to actively age strong in mind, body and spirit. 6 classes.

9. Americas Boating Course

Program: West Genesee Adult Ed

Dates: 4/17/2024 to 5/22/2024

This course, for ages 10 and up, is for interested individuals who operate, crew, or sail a power, wind or manually propelled watercraft. Each class is designed to familiarize the student with the fundamentals of safe boating. Subjects include boat handling; required and recommended equipment; and federal, state and local boating regulations and navigation rules. Successful completion of the course as evidenced by a passing grade on the exam satisfies the NYS requirements for a boating safety certificate for anyone over the age of 14 to operate a personal watercraft, and for anyone over 10 years old and born after January 1, 1978 to operate any mechanically propelled boat. By January 1, 2025 all operators of mechanically propelled boats will be required to have a boating safety certificate. Family members wishing to share a manual may do so. 5 classes: four 2-hour classes plus exam in fifth class.

10. CPR - Adult & Child, April 18

This course trains the lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults and children. Provides the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life and to minimize pain and the consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives. Participants who successfully complete this course will earn a CPR certification card. 1 class.

11. Basic Yoga Session 5

Program: West Genesee Adult Ed

Dates: 4/29/2024 to 6/10/2024

We will explore yoga postures (asana), breathing exercises (pranayama), and relaxation techniques in a class designed for beginners and intermediates. Standing poses and floor postures will add strength and flexibility while increasing your endurance. Hannah will emphasize proper technique to reduce chance of injury. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat. Each session is 6 classes.

You do not need to be a dancer or an aerobic fanatic to love Zumba. Anyone can do it! This Latin inspired dance-fitness program blends red-hot international music and contagious steps to form a fitness party that is downright addictive. Join the party! 6 classes

13. Discover the Tarot

Program: West Genesee Adult Ed

Dates: 5/8/2024 to 5/22/2024

Discover this centuries-old fortune-telling system using 78 colorful cards. Psychic and magician Ron Cain will discuss the meaning of the suits, numbers, and symbols. The 22 Major Arcana cards and the 56 Minor Arcana cards will be discussed as well. Students will also be taught the connection between ordinary cards and the Tarot. Participants will learn how to read the cards for friends, clients, and themselves. Several different layouts will be taught to provide the reader with different options for the client. Students will acquire the ability to read answer spreads, a tic tac toe layout, and most importantly, The Celtic Cross. Students also learn the magic square layout, which explains the fine art of knighting, interpreting corners, horizontals, verticals, and diagonals. Find your Birth Tarot Card to provide guidance throughout life. Learn how to make the best decision using a Risk Assessment Layout. Students will also discover how to read the Tarot without cards by using coins and numerology. Students should bring a Tarot deck: Rider-Waite Tarot deck is recommended. 3 classes.

14. 5 Hour Pre-Licensing Course VIRTUAL - May 11

Dates: 5/11/2024

This class has been changed to a virtual classroom. A class link will be sent to students' email the Friday before class. Mandatory for all new student drivers! This class is offered once a month for high school students and is required for all new permit holders who hope to become licensed drivers. Class content includes defensive driving, traffic safety, rules of the road, and alcohol awareness. Choose the best date and pre-register with Adult Education. Please bring your driver's permit. This class takes a quick break for lunch, so we encourage students to bring a lunch. DMV-approved course! 1 class.
