3. Social Media Wellness Book Chat - Blended

This book chat will focus on Ana Homayoun's book "Social Media Wellness: Helping Tweens and Teens Thrive in an Unbalanced Digital World." We will read the book and discuss the effects of social media and how to achieve balance in today's connected world with its many challenges and distractions.

The best part is that the final meeting of this book chat will be with the author herself at NERIC Awareness Day on December 13th! 4. Google Forms: In and Out of the Classroom - Online

This 15-hour online course introduces educators to Google Forms for classroom and personal use. Google Forms is a tool that is a part of the G-Suite. It allows users to create easy-to-use web forms, that are linked to a Google Sheet. The course focus is on standards-based exercises that can be easily integrated and adapted for educator use across the curriculum. Topics covered may include: form creation and formatting, using templates, creating surveys, quizzes, exit tickets, sharing and collaborating, and using add-ons. 6. Sharing is Caring: Leveraging G-Suite to Encourage Student Collaboration - Online

G-Suite gives us the opportunity to encourage students to collaborate in small groups, as a whole class, and even across sections. 10. Tell Your Story with Google Tour Creator!

Now you and your students can create your own virtual reality tours of anything you wish! Set up a tour for your students on an area of study, or task students with creating a tour of your town or a field trip location. Creating tours requires no VR expertise! You do not even need a 360-degree camera, as you can utilize pictures that already exist on Google Street View to put together scenes and add interactive elements to make their own unique tour experience.

The Model Schools Lending Library has one 360-degree camera that is available to borrow along with our new 10-kit of Google Expeditions for those who participate in this class.

This beginner level course will take you through the basics of designing, building and manipulating a website for use in various educational settings. We will be using Google Sites to create customized websites that meet the needs of all participants.

12. Google Certified Educator Level 1 Prep Course - Online

The goal of this course is to prepare educators to take and pass the Google Level 1 Certified Educator Exam. Google Level 1 Certified Educators know how to use and leverage Google tools effectively in their classroom to improve workflow and engage students.

The course consists of 17 modules, each focusing on a Google tool or group of apps. In each module, you will explore materials that will help you learn and perform the required skills for a particular Google product. At the end of each module you will be asked to take a quiz and complete a task. The quiz will test your knowledge of fundamental product features as well as the pedagogy behind using the topic Google tool while the task will allow you to practice your skills and ensure you actually know how to integrate the Google product in your classroom. Both module ending assessments are meant to prepare you for the associated parts of the Google Certified Educator Level 1 Exam. It is not required that you take the exam in order to earn credit for this course, although it is certainly encouraged!

The first module of the course must be completed by October 10th. After that, the modules can be completed at whatever pace you feel comfortable with as long as all work is completed by January 30th, 2020!

18. Coding with Robots in the Classroom: Ozobots

This course will be an overview of Ozobots so that you may borrow these robot kits for your classroom this year! Ozobots are great for grade 2 and up, because the programming grows with your students. You can begin with visual programming using markers, and move on to block-based coding that has various levels to increase complexity as skills develop. OzoBlockly can be used with any web browser.

21. Get On Board with Esports!

In this session, we will explore the benefits of starting an esports program at your school! The session will include an overview of what esports are, what esports seasons look like, and some best practices for coaches looking to start a team. 23. Create Video Games in Your Classroom with Bloxels!

This course will be introduce you to Bloxels, a hands-on tool for students to create stories and turn them into video games that they can play and share! Start with a Bloxels board to plan and design your story, game characters, and boards. Then transition from physical to virtual by scanning your creations with a tablet and customizing your game even more. You can add Bloxels to other lessons and make games based on literature, historical figures and more. Bloxels encourages collaboration and design thinking. Recommended for grades 3-6.

29. Young Adult Literature and Technology - Online

This course is designed for teachers and TAs who wish to update and enhance their knowledge of children's and/or young adult literature. Throughout the course, participants will submit a self-introduction and write a response to an online article. Class members will also be required to read from 5-19 recent children's or young adult books which may include picture books, middle grade books, or longer fiction/nonfiction titles published since 2012. Class members will write and submit book reviews for the class and use a technology platform or program to create something to use in the classroom based on one of the books.
