6. Bring "Among Us" Among Your Students

The New York State K12 Computer Science and Digital Fluency Learning Standards were adopted by the Board of Regents in December 2020. The new standards focus on five key concepts and have four guiding principles. This event offers a quick overview of the concepts and principles. 12. Making the Move Toward Student Creation

This course will focus on tech integration models like the SAMR model with the goal of shifting from teacher creation to student creation. We will explore how to modify and redefine the approaches to our lessons. In fact, participants will be encouraged to bring a lesson, resource, or idea and develop it with a shift toward student ownership and creation. Tech tools will be shared, but the pedagogy behind those tools will be the larger scope. This is blended course totaling 4 hours (3 hours webinar, 1 hour independent).

How this course supports remote learning: We have the tools, but now it's time to develop the students' understanding of how, when, and for what purpose to employ them. Rather than guiding everything with teacher templates, we will look into ways to leave inquiry and exploration open to students in any educational setting.

This course is intended to introduce teachers of all subjects and grade levels to innovative internet tools to use in any classroom. Screencast-O-Matic will be the main tool explored. It gives you the ability to create and share screen recordings to engage your auditory and visual learners. We will also be sharing tools such as Chirbit, Jing, Fakebook, and more! Upon completion of the course, you will receive a certificate for 15 hours of participation.

How this course supports remote instruction: This course supports remote learning in that it trains teachers how to create screencasts to share with students.

This course will present numerous alternatives to traditional text-based materials, pushing into the realms of video, digital graphics, audio recording, social media, and more! Participants will have the chance to "play” with various tech tools and see how multimedia can accomplish our tasks and goals, and then take those same tools right back into their classes to try with their students.
