4. How to use Discrete Trail Training in the Classroom - M. Meyerback

This online course is designed for educators, and related service providers who work with students with autism and other developmental disabilities. Participants will learn how to effectively implement Discrete Trial Training (DTT), a research-based teaching strategy rooted in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), to promote skill acquisition in the classroom. This course will cover the core components of DTT, including breaking skills into small, teachable steps, delivering clear instructions, using prompts and reinforcement, and collecting data to monitor student progress. Participants will also explore how to individualize DTT programs, generalize learned skills, and embed trials into natural classroom routines.
This partnership is designed to promote positive educational experiences and academic outcomes for English language learners (ELLs)/multilingual learners (MLLs) in New York State school districts through a series of 90-minute virtual workshops. The workshops will cover a number of important topics, including but not limited to: State of the State: Current NYS data on ELL/MLL demographics and achievement data NYS Regulations and Guidance: Identification, programming, and assessment requirements for ELLs/MLLs in K - 12 schools Fundamentals of Second Language Acquisition Creating a Welcoming and Affirming Environment: Culturally responsive practices and ELLs/MLLs Making Content Accessible: Best practices and strategies for teaching ELLs/MLLs in gen ed classes and content areas Technology and ELLs/MLLs: Helpful tools for instruction and communication. Introducing The Reading Institute's Science of Reading 15-hour Microcredential - a new, innovative professional learning experience authored by Dr. Katie Pace Miles, professor of early literacy at Brooklyn College. This course was designed with current and aspiring educators in mind, and ties reading science theory and research to authentic classroom practice. This course is organized into eleven modules - 10, one-hour primary modules, and one additional 5-hour extension module, totaling 15 hours of coursework. Each primary module contains video content that blends subject matter expertise with example instructional practices from real classrooms. Primary modules also contain engaging checks for understanding and supplemental resources to extend learning. The extension modules includes articles and readings to extend learning on all primary topics. Course Content Scope Module 1: Introduction: Why Are We here? Module 2: Science of Reading Theory Module 3: Oral Language, Phonological Awareness, and Phonemic Awareness Module 4: Orthographic Mapping, Phase Theory, and Phonics Module 5: Phonics, Part 2 Module 6: Fluency Module 7: Vocabulary Module 8: Comprehension Module 9: Writing Module 10: Literacy and Neurodivergence Module 11: Articles and research to extend learning on primary module topics, with a specific focus on NYS While most of our 15 hour courses have a $50 cost, this course is only $25. Join Dr. Heidi Beverine-Curry for a dynamic three-part series designed to deepen educators' understanding of the intersection of RTI/MTSS and the Science of Reading; what it takes to design systems that are informed by reliable data to ensure that students achieve reading success through effective instruction and intentional intervention. This opening session will clarify why we need a strong universal screener in our RTI/MTSS framework, examine the pros and cons of different types of universal screening tools, and offer practical tips for collecting universal screening data. 23. Book Talk - Bondi's Brother by Irving and Edward Roth - Online Webinar

Using the book Bondi's Brother to teach Holocaust survivor testimony (Grade 6-12) October 23 -4:00 TO 5:00. 25 participants will receive a copy of the book. Presented by the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Long Island. Bondi's Brother by Irving and Edward Roth is Irving's self-published testimony of his life in Hummene, Czechoslovakia, escaping to Hungary, deportation to Auschwitz, death march to Buchenwald, liberation then immigrating to America. Each chapter of Bondi's Brother has accompanying curriculum. This curriculum allows the entire book, selected parts or only one or two passages to be implemented. Students could learn Irving's story through specific passages in 6th grade, 8th grade and 10th grade. As more survivors are unable to tell their own personal stories; the importance of testimony becomes even more paramount in today's world and as a force against Holocaust denial. By teaching students to look at individuals as human beings, they will be more tolerant and accepting of others and appreciate the strength of the human spirit.

Assess and Aspire - Asynchronous assignment between live sessions Effective boundaries start with self-awareness. This session will provide educators with a tool for assessing their own wellness, stress levels, and personal boundary-setting tendencies. Following the completion of the assessment, participants will be invited to begin the creation of a Better Boundaries plan. By the 26th of November participants will receive: a 30-minute video, a 30-minute reading assignment, and a 30-minute personal assessment/reflection.
