1. Online: Starting off the School Year Right with ELLs!

Audience: All Educators

Dates: 10/7/2019 to 11/7/2019

This 5 week online course, which will run through Google Classroom, is designed to prepare and inform educators on how to get started with ELLs. This includes identification and placement procedures of English New Language learners. Participants will also explore immersion lessons in English and walk away with numerous samples and strategies, gain an introduction to the research proven SIOP Model, differentiate between SIOP lesson planning and mainstream lesson planning, and learn how to support ELLs in the mainstream classroom. While there are suggested timelines for work completion, this course does NOT require any synchronous sessions so you may plan your course completion time accordingly. All work is due by the end of the last day of the course.

2. Online: ENL Verbal and Noncommunication

Audience: ALL

Dates: 11/12/2019 to 11/15/2019

Why do we have such a hard time communicating our thoughts back and forth to each other in a way that ensures understanding? During this online course experience, participants will learn how to increase communication skills with ELLs both verbally and nonverbally. This course is 3 ENL/CTLE hours and will run through Google Classroom. While there are suggested timelines for work completion, this course does NOT require any synchronous sessions so you may plan your time accordingly. All work is due by the end of the last day of the course. You will receive a Rockland Teacher Center gmail account to participate in this course. Participants print their own CTLE certificate. After the following has been completed, 1. The course officially ends: 2. MLP Evaluation is completed 3. Attendance is confirmed by instructor: 4. Once the MLP admin marks the course complete, participants will be able print their CTLE certificate. Please note that initial class information, including your new RTC gmail, will be sent to the email you have registered on Frontline MLP

3. Online: Cross Cultural Communication

Audience: All

Dates: 11/18/2019 to 11/21/2019

During this online course experience, participants will learn how to increase communication skills with ELLs and their families to build a stronger home-school connection. By learning the cultural cues and mannerisms, participants will be able to effectively communicate with students and families as well as create a learning environment that is safe and diverse. This course is 3 ENL/CTLE hours and will run through Google Classroom. While there are suggested timelines for work completion, this course does NOT require any synchronous sessions so you may plan your time accordingly. 5. Online: Strategies for Teaching ELLs

Audience: All Educators

Dates: 1/6/2020 to 2/6/2020

Location: Online Only

This 5 week online course, which will run through Google Classroom, is designed to prepare educators to teach English Language students using a variety of strategies. This course will include learning how to evaluate authentic ENL materials based on guidelines such as: culturally responsiveness, age-appropriateness, linguistic accessibility, diverse adaptations and learning English Language strategy games that increase language acquisition. Participants with explore the benefits of these ENL strategy games and learn how to adapt and integrate them into their personal teaching or classroom lessons. In addition, participants will explore strategies that include technology tools and strategies to enhance English articulation and comprehension, the importance of vocabulary instruction, and how the use of music increases second language acquisition for English language learners. While there are suggested timelines for work completion, this course does NOT require any synchronous sessions so you may plan your course completion time accordingly. All work is due by the end of the last day of the course.

6. Online: Teaching Tools to Support English Learners

Audience: All Educators

Dates: 2/24/2020 to 4/2/2020

Location: Online Only

This 5 week online course will run through Google Classroom. During this experience, participants will explore a variety of teaching tools that will support ENL learners in unique ways. During this course participants will explore tools such as EdPuzzle, Amazon Echo, Google Drawings and much more! While there are suggested timelines for work completion, this course does NOT require any synchronous sessions so you may plan your course completion time accordingly. All work is due by the end of the last day of the course.
