Screencastify was an invaluable tool when teaching remotely, learn to use the new features and transform your remote lessons into powerful in-person lesson components. Take advantage of all of the hard work you did putting remote lessons together and transform your classroom experience into a personalized learning environment.

This course does NOT require any synchronous sessions, so you may plan your summer time accordingly. The instructor will be available for questions and support through email and video conference as needed. All workshops will be marked as complete after being reviewed by the instructors, please be patient.

3. SEL in the Blended Classroom(7/8 - 8/19)

The intersection of social-emotional learning and blended teaching methods is more important and relevant now than ever before. Participants in this 15 hour online course will experience a self-guided class that focuses on creating a student-centered classroom which incorporates thoughtful use of technology tools and online digital media with traditional classroom instructional methods. Together we will explore various tools, platforms, and strategies to create engaging classroom environments focused on the social-emotional needs of a diverse group of learners. Participants will design instruction that allows students more control over time, pace, place, and path of their learning. This course is delivered in Google Classroom. Participants will receive a rockteach.org email address to participate. Priority given to RTC member districts.

Learn to create a Podcast series using a Chromebook, laptop or desktop equipped with a mic, free and royalty free music. This asynchronous class will provide participants with the fundamental skills and knowledge to create a podcast series. The participants will produce a podcast episode that they can use in their classroom. In addition, the participants will learn how to have the students create content and quickly develop it into an episode with the intros and outros they created for their first episode.

Learn the basic function and operation of Google Sheets. Participants will have an opportunity to gain a better understanding of how a spreadsheet works and learn some uses that can be applied in their instruction. Participants will learn basic nomenclature, formulas, and charts.

6. Youth Mental Health First Aid - Virtual

Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) teaches you how to recognize and respond to a young person showing signs of a mental health challenge, disorder or in a crisis and connect them with professional, peer, social or self-help care. Complete the course and get certified as a Youth Mental Health First Aider by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing for three years.

Just like CPR is preparation for an emergency, YMHFA is preparation in case a young person needs help. First Aiders will complete a required 2-hour self - paced online class, and then participate in a 5- hour Instructor-led videoconference. The 2-hour self-paced online class must be completed at least one week prior to the 5- hour training. All materials including a YMHFA manual (over 400 pages), participant processing guide, and self-care template will be included (electronically) in the 2-hour self paced webinar. Once participants complete their self paced webinar, they will receive a zoom invitation to the 5-hour Instructor-led class on Thursday, July 22, 2021. The class will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. There will be a thirty minute lunch break. Participants will need a desktop or laptop (with audio and a camera) to participate in this class. The virtual course is offered through a federal grant to Community Synergy. Due to the grant requirements, priority is given to Orange County staff and residents. A minimum of 15 is required for the training to operate.

7. Race Conscious Pedagogy - Zoom

Race Conscious Pedagogy is the intersection of race consciousness and every interaction that happens in a school environment. These interactions are included but not limited to discipline, grading, curriculum, instruction, less structured time, etc. In this course participants will understand the importance of a racial lexicon, a race-conscious workforce, culturally responsive teaching, and culturally responsive community engagement. Previously called Anti-Racist Pedagogy.

13. Early Childhood Virtual Professional Learning Community - Zoom

The Lower Hudson Early Childhood Professional Learning Community (PLC) will bring together PreK, Kindergarten, Grade 1 educators and support staff to collaborate, build relationships, and prepare children to develop skills necessary for successful transitions in early childhood. Throughout the year, while exploring various topics centered around educating the WHOLE child, PLC members will build a network for sharing support and resources. Each session will have an experienced facilitator well versed on the topic. The PLC will have the opportunity to earn seven CTLE hours by completing each one hour session. Participants will also have the opportunity to register for the annual full-day Transitions Conference, to be held in Spring 2022. (Transitions Conference participants can earn an additional six CTLE hours).
