As New York State moves forward with NY Inspires and the development of a Portrait of a Graduate, school systems are being asked to think deeply about the skills, dispositions, and experiences we want for our students. At the same time, many educators are feeling the weight of multiple initiatives, shifting priorities, and increasing expectations.
This session invites leaders to step back and examine a critical question: How do we move this work forward in a way that is sustainable for the adults doing it? Rather than adding something new, we will focus on making sense of what is already in motion-exploring how greater coherence across initiatives can reduce overload, increase clarity, and strengthen implementation. Leaders will examine how fragmentation-not effort-is often at the root of burnout, and how intentional leadership moves can create the conditions for more aligned, purposeful work. Through reflection, practical protocols, and collaborative conversation, participants will identify where their systems may be contributing to fatigue or confusion, and where stronger alignment can support both adult well-being and student outcomes.
The goal is not to do less, but to lead in a way that makes the work feel connected, manageable, and meaningful over time.
