1. Leadership Coaching for School Administrators : 12 month coaching - SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS ONLY

Through a partnership with Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES, the Center for Professional Development and Education Reform, provides leadership coaches to school leaders across Central and Western New York. Participants range from those new to their position to those with more than a decade of experience; those struggling to find their way and award-winning leaders. Coaches are available to anyone wishing to be better tomorrow than they are today. Our leadership coaches are current or recently retired school administrators. They enter into confidential relationships with those they coach and help them to better serve their school community.

This registration is specifically meant for current School Administrators, that are not Superintendents. Coaching for Superintendents is available through a separate registration link.

Format: Administrators will attend 12 Coaching Sessions throughout the course of the school year.

17. Digging Deeper Into Fractions

Having a rich understanding of mathematics influences instructional decisions such as selecting tasks, posing purposeful questions, and devising ways to support and challenge students' thinking. In this session, participants will engage in experiences designed to uncover the underlying mathematical ideas associated with fractions as they develop across the elementary grades. Mathematics experiences will be purposefully sequenced to allow participants the opportunity to see and feel the vertical alignment of the math standards in the Number and Operations-Fractions domain. Time will be devoted to analyzing and discussing effective and efficient strategies to support students at all levels to maximize their understanding of fractions.

18. Adult Mental Health First Aid

Program: School Culture and Climate Grant

Mental Health First Aid is an internationally recognized mental health awareness program that has been in use since 2001. Mental Health First Aid is listed in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's National Registry of Evidenced-based programs and practices. The training is eight hours in length and includes a three year national certification. Training is designed to:

• Increase participants awareness of the signs and symptoms of mental illness.

• Decrease the negative stigma's associated with mental illness.

• Empower participants to assist youth who may be struggling with mental illness or challenges.

• Allow participants to better understand the warning signs and risk factors of depression, anxiety, psychotic disorders, trauma, eating disorders, substance use disorders and suicide.

• Teach participants a five-step action plan to help an individual in or out of crisis connect to professional care.

21. Word Recognition: Phonics Instruction

In this session participants will learn about the research around phonics instruction. The units of written language (graphemes, syllables) will be taught with opportunities to apply knowledge to single and multi-syllable words. Participants will learn about assessment procedures and how to group students based on phonics knowledge to accelerate reading intervention outcomes. Attendees will examine the key elements of an evidence-based phonics lesson and will engage in these procedures. We encourage school teams and/or individuals from multiple disciplines to attend including: administrators, school psychologists, reading teachers, classroom teachers, speech and language pathologists, special education teachers, and other school professionals.

22. DPO Working Session - Inventory Management

This series of events is intended for DPOs or those doing DPO work to meet with EduTech Data Privacy & Security staff, as well as their fellow DPO colleagues, in order to complete ongoing work as it relates to their position. This is mostly an open-ended working session where DPOs should come prepared with materials to work on related to the topic. This month's topic is Inventory Management.

27. Creating and Sustaining Engaging and Equitable Learning Communities

Join staff development trainer Hilary Chaya for an experiential workshop to increase student voice in your classroom while developing engaging and equitable learning opportunities. We will review the principles of blended learning, Tier 1 classroom curriculum design, and also explore current grading practices to help shift instruction toward a more equitable and student-centered approach. Other points of entry for this work will be the NYS Culturally Response-Sustaining Education framework, Universal Design for Learning, and the use of MTSS strategies for all tiers. 32. Standard Response, Standard Reunification Overview

Priority of Life Training and Consulting, in partnership with Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES, is pleased to provide a day of customized training to conduct scenario-based tabletop exercises based on the NYS-approved "I Love U Guys” Foundation Standard Response Protocol™ (SRP) and Standard Reunification Method™ (SRM).

This course is designed to bring school personnel and emergency responders together to improve incident management and response integration to both non-violent and violent events in schools. This training allows participants to work side-by-side to manage incidents occurring in schools that lead to conducting a Parent/Guardian - Student Reunification.

33. The Science of Reading for Multi-Lingual Learners

The New York State Education Department will release a new toolkit, developed in collaboration with Dr. Socorro Herrera, Dr. Kathy Escamilla, and Dr. Robin Cabral. The agenda includes an overview of the six briefs developed to help educators ensure that the teaching of reading is inclusive of ELLs and MLs.

This event will be held as a hybrid webinar with in-person discussion at W-FL BOCES and online presentations.

New York State administrators and literacy leaders will be presented specific and useful information to understand and address the ontological differences between ELLs, MLs, and monolingual students. Please note that to participate in this event, you must attend in person at a designated BOCES, Big 5, or Small City School District site.

Participants in the event will have the opportunity to learn about the briefs with Dr. Socorro Herrera, a professor at the College of Education and the director of the Center for Intercultural and Multilingual Advocacy at Kansas State University. Dr. Herrera's K-12 teaching experience includes an emphasis on literacy development, and her research focuses on literacy opportunities with culturally and linguistically diverse students, reading strategies, and teacher preparation for diversity in the classroom.

34. Therapeutic Crisis Intervention 2 edition

Program: Professional Development

Audience: This course is designed for School Personnel

Dates: 12/1/2025 to 12/11/2025

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) is a trauma-informed crisis prevention and management system. The TCIS system helps staff create a learning environment that decreases risk factors while increasing protective factors so both students and staff can feel safe. TCIS provides staff an understanding of trauma sensitive practices and skills (co-regulation) to help students learn how to regulate and manage their own emotions. These newly learned skills encourage a greater willingness and capacity for our students to learn.

TCIS helps participants and schools to:

◉ Create a trauma-sensitive environment where students and adults are safe and feel safe within their roles as a staff member
◉ Pro-actively prevent and/or deescalate potential crisis situations with the students they work with
◉ Manage a crisis situation in a therapeutic manner, and, if necessary, intervene physically in a manner that reduces the risk of harm to students and staff
◉ Process the crisis event with students and each other to help improve their coping strategies to reduce future risk

MBSR is an 8-week evidence-based, experiential program designed to provide participants with intensive and systematic training in mindfulness meditation and movement practices, and integrating into one's daily life what is discovered and learned through the process of participating in the program. Mindfulness Based-Stress Reduction (MBSR) is based on ancient contemplative practices integrated with western medical approaches by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979. MBSR is an 8-week program of systematic training in mindfulness meditation employing both formal and informal practices. The experiential program harnesses inner resources and cultivates resilience. MBSR has been researched over 40 years and consistently delivers positive outcomes associated with increased self-awareness and emotional and attentional regulation. In addition, outcomes have included reductions in symptoms for various physical and behavioral health conditions such as anxiety, depression, stress, chronic pain, and hypertension.

Mental Health First Aid is an internationally recognized mental health awareness program that has been in use since 2001. Mental Health First Aid is listed in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's National Registry of Evidenced-based programs and practices. The training is eight hours in length and includes a three year national certification. Training is designed to:

• Increase participants' awareness of the signs and symptoms of mental illness.

• Decrease the negative stigma associated with mental illness.

• Empower participants to assist youth who may be struggling with mental illness or challenges.

• Allow participants to better understand the warning signs and risk factors of depression, anxiety, psychotic disorders, trauma, eating disorders, substance use disorders and suicide.

• Teach participants a five-step action plan to help an individual in or out of crisis connect to professional care.

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) is a trauma-informed crisis prevention and management system. The TCIS system helps staff create a learning environment that decreases risk factors while increasing protective factors so both students and staff can feel safe. TCIS provides staff an understanding of trauma sensitive practices and skills (co-regulation) to help students learn how to regulate and manage their own emotions. These newly learned skills encourage a greater willingness and capacity for our students to learn.

TCIS helps participants and schools to:

◉ Create a trauma-sensitive environment where students and adults are safe and feel safe within their roles as a staff member
◉ Pro-actively prevent and/or deescalate potential crisis situations with the students they work with

When students feel emotionally safe, they're more likely to engage, participate, and behave positively. This session explores the connection between psychological safety and student behavior, offering practical, Tier 1 strategies that support all learners. Grounded in the MTSS framework, participants will learn how to create classroom conditions that foster trust, reduce anxiety, and encourage respectful risk-taking. Educators will reflect on their current practices, examine common barriers, and leave with tools that promote belonging, curiosity, and classroom-wide engagement.

Learning Targets:

90. Language Comprehension: The ABCs of Background Knowledge: Activating, Building, and Connecting

Audience: PK-12 Literacy Educators

In this session participants will learn about the research around how background knowledge impacts reading comprehension. Specific strategies will be provided to activate, build, and connect background knowledge to maximize reading comprehension. Session participants will learn about assessment practices around background knowledge and impacts of deficit knowledge on inference making. We will also examine common reading comprehension tools and explore differences between measures. Participants will have opportunities to apply strategies to their context. We encourage school teams and/or individuals from multiple disciplines to attend including: administrators, school psychologists, reading teachers, classroom teachers, speech and language pathologists, special education teachers, and other school professionals.

Overview of the Series - Join Staff Development Trainers Erica, Kristin & Melissa for an engaging series on strengthening communication skills with families and guardians. Let's face it - it's easier to text or email but to build sustainable relationships, we need to make the call! Here's a breakdown for each virtual, 45 minute session.

"Call Me, Maybe” with Erica - In this session participants will learn self-management strategies to regulate the nervous system and prepare to make the call as well as what to do when emotions (yours or theirs) get heightened. We'll also dive into the science behind the nervousness and have some fun while developing these necessary skills.

"Say This” with Kristin - In this session participants will be introduced to a few different possible scripts to use when calling guardians. We will review this proactive step to solidifying relationships with guardians, and will talk through various scenarios to prepare for. Participants will conclude with the opportunity to practice, and ask questions.

"SOS” with Melissa - In this session, participants will learn strategies that can be used when a conversation doesn't go the way you hoped. Join Melissa to explore restorative language that can be used when repairing harm is your next step.

Curious about artificial intelligence but not sure where to start? This asynchronous Tic-Tac-Toe challenge invites educators to explore AI tools and concepts at their own pace; no prior experience required.

Each square on the board represents a 1-hour professional learning opportunity ranging from beginner to more advanced topics. Participants will experiment with AI for lesson planning, creative idea generation, and productivity.

Complete any three activities in a row to achieve Tic-Tac-Toe status and earn entry into a drawing for an AI-themed book!

By the end, you'll walk away with greater confidence, a clearer understanding of AI's potential in education, and inspiration to thoughtfully explore how it might fit into your future classroom practice.

In this workshop, participants will explore how trauma-informed care, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS), and restorative practices can be integrated to create safe and supportive learning environments. By using strategies through the lens of TCIS, restorative practices, and trauma-sensitive classrooms, staff will begin to learn how to:

Prevent escalation before it occurs
Recognize and respond to student needs
Explore the importance of the developmental relationship
Address students in ways that promote healing and belonging

Join Staff Development Trainers Hilary Chaya and Melissa Reeves for an experiential workshop designed for educators seeking practical and compassionate approaches to address challenging behaviors in the classroom. Building on proactive and restorative foundations, participants will explore strategies for responding to persistent or disruptive behaviors while maintaining a positive, relationship-centered learning environment. Through real-world scenarios, reflective discussion, and collaborative problem-solving, educators will learn how to implement restorative conversations, create behavior support plans, and differentiate interventions based on student needs. Participants will leave with tools to respond effectively in the moment, as well as systems for long-term support and growth - all grounded in empathy, accountability, and equity.

*District teams are encouraged to attend together, but this is not required.

101. DPO Working Session - Technology Policies
