Program: Curriculum Instruction and Prof Dev

Returning Guest Speaker
New
This professional learning series is intentionally designed to build learning over time, not in isolation. In our first sessions, participants explored the Introduction and Chapters 1, 3, and 5 of Teaching Foundational Skills to Adolescent Readers, grounding our work in self-efficacy, word recognition, and sentence analysis.

Now, we continue the learning journey.

In this next phase, we will dive into Chapters 2, 4, 6, and 7, expanding and strengthening the foundation already established. Teachers will explore how background knowledge, word knowledge, verbal reasoning, and targeted intervention connect directly to the practices introduced earlier creating a coherent, layered approach to literacy instruction.

This PD is designed for educators who value:

• Learning that builds intentionally from Day 1

• Research-based practices connected directly to classroom application

• A shared language and framework that grows over time

Join us as we continue to power up instruction, deepen understanding, and translate research into action-step by step, chapter by chapter.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you were unable to attend the 1/9 session, you may still attend this one. You will need to have your own copy of the book and read the Introduction and Chapters 1, 3 and 5 before attending.

Dates: 5/15/2026

Join us for this asynchronous professional development course as we explore the AI Scope and Sequence developed by the School Library Systems Association of New York. Deepen your own understanding of AI through readings and media, then collaborate in discussion forums to share reflections, resources, and implementation strategies. The culminating goal of the course is to co-create and share fully developed, classroom-ready lesson plans that align with one or more strands of the scope and sequence and can be used by other librarians.

This course will take place asynchronously on Schoology, with weekly modules and collaborative discussion prompts. Whether you're new to AI or already experimenting with AI instruction, this course will support you in bringing this important topic to life in your school community.
