3. ESL 1: Introduction to Teaching English as a Second Language

This course is the basic introduction to ESL Program Specialist Certification. It will include five domains of teaching English learners:culture, language, planning instruction, assessment, and professionalism. Emphasis is placed on the Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) teaching standards and English Language Development Standards. Teachers will examine research-based practices in relation to the five domains and identify their role as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher.

15. STEELS and Assessments - Evaluating Student Work in 3 Dimensions

Shifting classroom practice to the new PA STEELS Standards is a marathon, not a sprint. Assessing student work in 3 dimensions is a crucial part of that shift. Participants will take a deep dive into assessment in 3 dimensions by surfacing what STEELS aligned assessments can look like, evaluating 3 dimensional assessment questions and looking at student work samples in order to drive instruction. Open to K-12 educators, administrators, academic coaches, STEM coordinators and curriculum coordinators, this day will give participants a clear idea of how approaches to teaching and learning science are shifting, as well as develop an appreciation for the shifts in assessment it will bring to the classroom. Lunch will be provided. Please bring a laptop and/or tablet to access online resources.

24. Structured Literacy Leadership: What Administrators Need to Know!

The purpose of this course is to ensure that leaders deepen their understanding of the Act 55, Chapter 49 legislative requirements regarding the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy and that they are better prepared to lead and support their staff in increasing reading achievement for all students, particularly diverse learners. This training will outline and review leading research in literacy, identify big ideas in reading instruction, and assist education leaders to analyze their core reading program and make determinations about instructional gaps in their current literacy program. In addition, leaders will be able to understand the importance and be able to evaluate how teachers and systems leverage efficient instructional practices including explicit instruction to improve outcomes for students within a Structured Literacy Framework. Finally, the training will help school leaders understand Structured Literacy within an MTSS framework, through assessment and instruction, in response to students' needs and increasing support for students with below grade level skills. 31. Ignite, Implement, Impact: A 3-Day School Improvement Institute (February 19th, March 19th & April 17, 2026)

During the three-day Institute sessions, your NEIU 19 School Improvement Team, will provide practical strategies, action-plan review, structured reflection, guest speakers, networking, and opportunities for team collaboration to support meaningful and sustainable change and the implementation of your programming. School Improvement is a team approach, and we recommend three individuals (minimum) to attend these sessions. Each team member must register separately for Act 48 hours. The makeup of these teams should include:
• 1 building principal
• 1 lead educator (i.e., department head, coach, etc.)
• 1 additional person (i.e., multi-committee member, etc)
• Central Office individuals (curriculum directors, special education directors, etc.) are more than welcome to attend and participate in this series, but is not recommended to be one of the three identified individuals. (Lunch on your own)

School and system leaders play a critical role in the successful implementation of STEELS standards. This STEELS and School Leaders professional learning is designed to help leaders support high-quality STEELS instruction, strategic planning, and teacher supervision. Sessions focus on creating inquiry-rich learning environments, evaluating student engagement, and implementing best practices for instructional leadership. These learning opportunities equip school leaders with the tools and frameworks needed to drive systemic change and support teachers in delivering rigorous, three-dimensional instruction. Held for 2 days school leaders will explore how to align their district's vision for STEELS and discover practical strategies to support teachers and students in implementing these powerful, future-ready frameworks. Topics include: leadership, phenomena-based learning, 3-dimensional learning and assessments, teacher coaching, and integrating STEELS into course design.

As a free resource to our districts, PA STEM Lend provides STEM and CS equipment to educators across our catchment to use with students. Come see and learn about the equipment we have for you to borrow, learn how it works and how to start borrowing! (NOTE: A signed, current district lending library agreement is required prior to reservations being processed).

This course is the basic introduction to ESL Program Specialist Certification. It will include five domains of teaching English learners:culture, language, planning instruction, assessment, and professionalism. Emphasis is placed on the Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) teaching standards and English Language Development Standards. Teachers will examine research-based practices in relation to the five domains and identify their role as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher.
Literacy is a right; not a privileged. All students who enter our schools need to have equity and access to strong foundational literacy skills to they can unlock the magic of reading and contribute to our future society. This course is designed to amplify practices in phonological/phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension while taking student needs in account when planning.

42. How to View Students Through a Trauma-Informed Lens

44. LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) Volume 2 - 4 Cohorts

LETRS is a full-year professional learning course for instructors of reading, spelling, and related language skills. It provides educators with in-depth knowledge and tools that they can use with any reading program. This dynamic blended learning experience includes the following components: -LETRS Online Learning Platform -LETRS Print Manual -Bridge to Practice Activities -LETRS Facilitator-Led Sessions -Unit 5: March 3, 2026 -Unit 6: April 23, 2026 -Unit 7: May 5, 2026 -Unit 8: May 15, 2026 During the LETRS course of study, participants will watch videos of expert teaching, complete activities to reinforce concepts, and have opportunities to apply learning to the classroom in Bridge to Practice activities. Join us as we navigate three topics that can help support Health and Physical Education Professionals in PA. The first topic will share the process of the new academic standards for Health and Physical Education. We will provide an oversight of the process. Review the format and content that will be included in the new Academic Standards. The second topic will introduce a new focus on teaching Health K-12. Skills-Based Health allows students to become lifelong learners through practicing the 7 Health Literacy Skills. Teachers will practice using local and state data to improve the delivery of health education. The third topic will address the new executive order on the Presidential Fitness Testing. Prepare to engage in a discussion that will focus on providing lifelong fitness education to all students. Teachers will provide examples of how fitness concepts can be taught to support growth in physical fitness amongst all students. Teachers will leave with activities and action steps to promote more fitness concepts in their physical education curriculum.

OGAP Additive Professional Development for K-3 classroom teachers, special educators, math interventionists, and math instructional leaders. OGAP Additive Reasoning professional development is organized around content, mathematics education research, and evidence in student work and instructional decision-making using formative assessment and learning progressions. Participants will learn how to establish and facilitate educational support groups for children in grades kindergarten through twelve in a school setting. Why would schools consider Educational Support Groups? Students listen to other students. Groups are an effective and fun way to teach social and emotional skills to students. As schools begin to implement Tier 2 supports for students K-12, agency and school personnel will receive training to prepare them to effectively facilitate educational skill-development groups in schools. This course will examine the theories, principals, and practices that assist English learners in achieving academic proficiency in the content area. Planning standards-based instruction and adapting instruction in the content area is emphasized. Drawing upon this knowledge performance-based measures to assess ELs discrete and integrated ability to use grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading, and writing to communicate.

It will include five domains of teaching English learners:culture, language, planning instruction, assessment, and professionalism. Teachers will examine research-based practices in relation to the five domains and identify their role as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher.

The course will offer knowledge on benchmarks for different proficiency levels. Assessing English learners can be a challenge to not only teachers but also the students themselves. As ESL students in K-12 are taught English, proper instruments need to be in place to access student progress. Tools should be appropriate, and take into account the proficiency level of the learner.

This course will examine the theories, principals, and practices that assist English learners in achieving academic proficiency in the content area.
