This training series is designed for new Tier 1 PBIS teams. Throughout this three-day workshop, teams will dive into the world of Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS). Topics covered throughout the three days include, but not limited to: an overview of PBIS, develop and design their own systems of support, reinforcement systems, continuum of consequences, highlight the importance of fidelity and more throughout the workshop.
The purpose of the proposed course is to educate teachers on the importance of integrating AI into the classroom. OGAP Proportional Professional Development for Upper Elementary-Algebra teachers, special educators, math interventionists, and math instructional leaders. For students to become strong in their application of ratios, rates, and proportional relationships they must interact with a range of problem contexts and problem structures. Beginning in grade 4 the CCSSM engages students in multiplicative change problems which set the foundation for proportional thinking. In grade 6 students focus on understanding ratios and unit rates and applying these concepts in problems involving unit pricing, constant rate of speed, measure conversions, and percent. In grade 7 this work is extended to proportional relationships and solving multi-step proportion problems, percent problems, scale problems, and developing probability. In grade 8 students study the connections between proportional relationships, graphs, and linear equations including understanding of similarity. This 4-day professional development includes 2 days of follow-up coaching support at the NEIU with OGAP representatives.

American Academy of Pediatrics SCAN Program: Suspected Child Abuse & Neglect. As legally mandated reporters, school nurses are often the only voice for abused and neglected children. This American Academy of Pediatrics Suspected Child Abuse & Neglect (SCAN) program was created specifically for school nurses and incorporates clinical and legal aspects of the school nurse assessment. Presented by a pediatrician with expertise in child abuse assessments and a Child Protective Services professional, the 3-hour program models the needed collaboration between health care providers and child protective services and takes an in-depth view of Pennsylvania law, risk factors, abusive vs. accidental injuries, the implications of truancy, reporting procedures and what to expect after a report is made. 46. Structured Literacy Leadership: What Administrators Need to Know!

The purpose of this course is to ensure that leaders deepen their understanding of the Act 55, Chapter 49 legislative requirements regarding the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy and that they are better prepared to lead and support their staff in increasing reading achievement for all students, particularly diverse learners. This training will outline and review leading research in literacy, identify big ideas in reading instruction, and assist education leaders to analyze their core reading program and make determinations about instructional gaps in their current literacy program. In addition, leaders will be able to understand the importance and be able to evaluate how teachers and systems leverage efficient instructional practices including explicit instruction to improve outcomes for students within a Structured Literacy Framework. Finally, the training will help school leaders understand Structured Literacy within an MTSS framework, through assessment and instruction, in response to students' needs and increasing support for students with below grade level skills. Computational Thinking (CT) is a problem-solving process that enables students to think, learn and create to solve problems. CT enables students to think logically about how to organize data and breakdown the steps to solving a problem, transfer their thinking processes to a wider variety of problems, analyze key components of complex problems and generate a list of steps used to solve a problem. Open to K-12 educators, administrators, academic coaches, STEM coordinators and curriculum coordinators, this day will give participants a clear idea of how approaches to teaching and learning science, technology and engineering and environmental literacy and sustainability are shifting, as well as develop an appreciation for the shifts in thinking it will bring to the classroom. Plastic Panic This half day of professional development centers around our STEM Lending Library Plastic Panic learning kit. Model the journey water takes at a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) through a series of hands-on steps around a tabletop model. Learn about our microplastic pollution problem, and discover what happens to the pollutants as they enter and pass through a WWTP. This grab and go kit contains everything you need to complete a 10 lesson unit. Come learn with us then borrow the kit to use with your students! A Day with the Big Map Join us as we unfold the fun! The NEPA Elit Hub recently purchased large format maps to lend in our STEM Lending Library. These maps are 27 by 35 feet! During this half day of professional development, participants will get to unfold and walk on the big map and discuss ways in which we can engage students in different levels and subject areas. Shifting classroom practice to the new PA STEELS Standards is a marathon, not a sprint. Assessing student work in 3 dimensions is a crucial part of that shift. Participants will take a deep dive into assessment in 3 dimensions by surfacing what STEELS aligned assessments can look like, evaluating 3 dimensional assessment questions and looking at student work samples in order to drive instruction. Open to K-12 educators, administrators, academic coaches, STEM coordinators and curriculum coordinators, this day will give participants a clear idea of how approaches to teaching and learning science are shifting, as well as develop an appreciation for the shifts in assessment it will bring to the classroom. Join us as we navigate three topics that can help support Health and Physical Education Professionals in PA. The first topic will share the process of the new academic standards for Health and Physical Education. We will provide an oversight of the process. Review the format and content that will be included in the new Academic Standards. The second topic will introduce a new focus on teaching Health K-12. Skills-Based Health allows students to become lifelong learners through practicing the 7 Health Literacy Skills. Teachers will practice using local and state data to improve the delivery of health education. The third topic will address the new executive order on the Presidential Fitness Testing. Prepare to engage in a discussion that will focus on providing lifelong fitness education to all students. Teachers will provide examples of how fitness concepts can be taught to support growth in physical fitness amongst all students. This course will examine the theories, principals, and practices that assist English learners in achieving academic proficiency in the content area. Planning standards-based instruction and adapting instruction in the content area is emphasized. Teachers will be able to demonstrate knowledge of their ELs and the role of individual characteristics in the process and outcome of language learning. Drawing upon this knowledge performance-based measures to assess ELs discrete and integrated ability to use grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading, and writing to communicate.
