7. Statewide Frameworks Participation 23-24

Program: Statewide Frameworks

Audience: Voting Member from BOCES or Big 5

Dates: 7/1/2023

This registration will commit the BOCES/Big 5 to participating in the 6 Framework groups for 23-24. Those groups are ELA, Math, Science Social Studies, TLE and SEL. Once this registration is received the membership registrations for each group will be shared with the voting member to distribute to the two representatives for each of the 6 groups from their BOCES or Big 5. This registration is for billing purposes only.

9. Science Framework Fall Meeting

Program: Statewide Frameworks

Dates: 10/3/2023 to 10/4/2023

Our focus for this meeting will be on the performance level descriptors (PLDs) for middle school, biology, and earth and space science. We will build professional learning that can be delivered around NYS around how to use the PLDs in instruction and assessment. This professional learning will address common misconceptions around PLDs and help teachers use them as an instructional tool. The PLDs are expected to be released by NYSED in the spring of 2023.

10. Q and A for Literacy Symposium

This event will allow for discussion, answering question and seeking clarification regarding the upcoming literacy event that will be hosted by NYSED in collaboration with SCDN.
This session will focus on issues of equity we grapple with in our schools: Grading & Discipline. Participants will gain knowledge of the implications of various and traditional approaches to grading, its impact on SEL outcomes and how we transition to more equitable systems of evaluation, elements of equitable implantation, explore Adult SEL and it's Linkage to discipline disparities and build a rudimentary understanding of Implementation Science. *This session is virtual only.

13. Science Framework Meeting

Program: Statewide Frameworks

Dates: 1/11/2024 to 1/12/2024

This meeting will focus on opportunities for connections to the NYSED CRSE Framework. Our focus will be on local phenomena and their connection to PLDs. Local phenomena allow students to have a better opportunity to have experienced the phenomena and therefore are more likely to be able to connect with that phenomena. For example, students in Western NY can study erosion and deposition along the Niagara River and Niagara Falls rather than using a similar example from the Grand Canyon. We will be joined by Drs. Ohkee Lee and Allison Haas to present their phenomena based unit writing process. We will take clusters of performance expectations and connect local phenomena to those clusters. Each individual JMT will work to connect local phenomena to the PE clusters. The performance expectations are summative, so this process will help guide teachers to consider what students will need to have learned and what skill students will need to access the NYSSLS.

14. ELA Statewide Framework Group Meeting #2 VIRTUAL

Dates: 1/19/2024

This virtual meeting will begin with a presentation around DEI-centered literacy strategies in the ELA classroom, as a continuation of November's learning, and some direct learning on topics present in the text The PD Workbook on integration of all materials and topics and how they translate into our various roles. After a debrief with the whole group, workgroups will continue working in breakout rooms toward their intended outcomes established in November with a DEI and PBLA lens.

15. Social Studies S/CDN Statewide Framework Virtual Meeting (Winter)

Our session is designed as a facilitated workshop targeting the need for resource development to support student success on the US Regents (that was identified in Meeting #1), book study groups with a focus on the connection between the themes in the text and our group work, and Civic Seal check-in and identification of ongoing needs for development of resources.

19. Science Framework Meeting

Program: Statewide Frameworks

Dates: 5/1/2024 to 5/2/2024

This session will focus on the MTSS-i work from the full SCDN framework groups session in March 23-24. We will unpack the work from the March meeting, and develop materials to help districts use the MTSS framework with the science standards. We will focus on community science projects as an approach to move this work forward.

21. Social Studies S/CDN Statewide Framework Meeting (Spring)

Our session will focus on debriefing from the year and planning for 2023-2024, planning for graders trainings for Global II and US Regents, finishing our books studies including whole group conversation, and a keynote speaker presentation.

22. ELA Statewide Framework Group Meeting #3

Program: Statewide Frameworks

Dates: 5/16/2024 to 5/17/2024

Following the March multi-framework meeting in Albany regarding MTSS-I, the ELA framework group will use an established protocol to unpack and process how the information learned will support our group as a whole, and how it will be used to inform the continued efforts of our three established workgroups. Each workgroup will then meet to continue working towards their 2-3 specific outcomes for 23-24. On day 2, each workgroup will present their turnkey materials to the whole group, highlighting how they have integrated DEI, PBLA and MTSS-I considerations into their research, materials, and presentation. The session will close with a presentation from the DEI workgroup on how the 5 pursuits present in Cultivating Genius exist in traditional and performance-based lessons/ materials, providing the group with strategies, language, and materials to bring back to their regions.
