3. CS Coastal Hub Elective: K-12 Sphero

Our workshop is specifically designed for educators of all levels, focusing on the Sphero Indi and Sphero Bolt. Through this workshop, you will gain the knowledge and skills to inspire your students through imaginative and play-based learning. By utilizing these robots, you will empower your students to develop computational thinking skills, while also learning the fundamentals of coding and problem-solving. The Sphero Indi is an excellent tool for early learning in literacy and language development. It is an entry-level learning robot that is driven by color, making it approachable for students of all levels. During the workshop, participants will progress to block-based programming using the Sphero edu Jr. app, allowing them to unlock even more potential from these amazing robots. Furthermore, we will explore the capabilities of the Sphero Bolt. This includes drawing with the sensor-based robot, collecting and analyzing data, as well as engaging in block-based and Javascript text programming. By the end of the workshop, we will provide suggestions for classroom applications that cater to all grade levels, experience levels, and content areas.

6. CS Coastal Hub CORE Cohort for Grades K-8: 5 Day (Wednesday PM)

Dates: 10/2/2024 to 11/13/2024

The CORE is the CS Coastal Hubs signature series to integrate Computer Science across the curriculum. We will help you design a plan to incorporate computer science whether you want to embed it into a core content or a special to meet the needs of your students. Topics will include unplugged computer science, physical computing, curriculum writing, data, networks, and artificial intelligence. Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across the region, become part of a PLC with coaching and support, hands on experience with grant supported resources, access to the lending library and more! Join us for a hands-on learning experience to embrace computer science concepts in your classroom.

Ozobots are miniature robots that can follow lines and respond to colors, making them ideal tools for introducing programming concepts to students of all ages.

During this workshop, participants will: Gain a solid understanding of coding fundamentals, discover the Ozoblockly programming environment, engage in hands-on activities, and foster creativity and critical thinking. We will cover basic programming concepts such as commands, loops, conditionals, and variables. You'll leave the workshop with practical ideas and resources to implement immediately in your classrooms.

No prior experience with coding or robotics is necessary to participate in this workshop. We welcome educators from all backgrounds, whether you are a beginner or have previous experience with coding. Come prepared to have fun, learn new skills, and empower your students to become future-ready through the exciting world of coding and robotics!

Note: Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops or devices compatible with the Ozoblockly programming environment. Ozobots will be provided for use during the workshop.

This series will provide an overview of the NJSLS Computer Science standards, unplugged computer science, physical computing, data, networks and artificial intelligence and how they each impact the classroom. The CORE2 has a deeper focus on physical computing where we will explore sphero bolts, micro:bits, hummingbird kits, air:bits, MakeBots, and Raspberry Pi kits. All items are available through the lending library once you have completed the workshop. Join us to learn more about how you can integrate computer science in your classroom!

Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across the region, become part of a PLC with coaching and support, hands on experience with grant supported resources, access to the lending library and more!
