Choice Boards are a way of organizing resources and learning tasks for students as well as offers students the opportunity to go beyond the curriculum. With choice board learning, students must actively participate to work towards self-directed learning. This online workshop is intended to provide an overview of Dyslexia.

Dyslexia, the most recognized of reading problems, is a neurological disorder that is often characterized by difficulties in recognizing and decoding words, leading to lower comprehension and fluency. Although there is no exact count, it is estimated that one in ten people may be afflicted with some form of dyslexia.

Governor Christie signed legislation that prominently recognizes dyslexia in state statute and regulation, making it a requirement for districts to deal with this disability. A definition of dyslexia must now be specifically written into special education code and a yearly 2-hour professional development requirement for dyslexia is now mandated for all teachers in grades pre-K through grade 3, special education, reading and ESL teachers, reading specialists, learning disabilities teacher consultants, and speech-language specialists.

This two-hour webinar will provide participating administrators, pre-K to 3 educators, Special Education supervisors, and Child Study Team members with detailed information about this legislation, citing the specificity and requisites that impact the governance and operation of all school districts in New Jersey. This one hour webinar of the very successful and popular workshop will provide SPICE training demonstrating how to identify and apply skills needed to teach and enhance writing abilities at the elementary and middle school level. Effective May 5, 2014, the NJ Teacher Mentoring Regulations have been amended to better align with the TEACHNJ Act, and specifies that mentors need training prior to working with novice teachers and guiding experienced teachers that are new to the district.

In this workshop, mentors will explore the mentoring process and understand the requirements for working with novice teachers. Practical strategies, skills, information, and resources will be discussed that will help them to successfully mentor novice teachers and positively impact their professional growth. Through role playing, communication skills, and knowledge of adult learning principles, mentor teachers will be provided with resources that will not only help them to become effective mentors and role models, but will also expand their own professional expertise.

This workshop will focus on the use of high quality resources and self-assessment tools to evaluate the materials. The NJDOE Designing and Evaluating Instructional Materials checklist will be introduced. In addition, drawing upon the expertise of the ETTC, participants will be introduced to technology resources that can be used during PBL units. The workshop will be conducted by Dr. Stacey Culleny, Dr. Kimberly Lebak and ETTC staff.

Our workshop is specifically designed for educators of all levels, focusing on the Sphero Indi and Sphero Bolt. Through this workshop, you will gain the knowledge and skills to inspire your students through imaginative and play-based learning. By utilizing these robots, you will empower your students to develop computational thinking skills, while also learning the fundamentals of coding and problem-solving. The Sphero Indi is an excellent tool for early learning in literacy and language development. It is an entry-level learning robot that is driven by color, making it approachable for students of all levels. During the workshop, participants will progress to block-based programming using the Sphero edu Jr. app, allowing them to unlock even more potential from these amazing robots. Furthermore, we will explore the capabilities of the Sphero Bolt. This includes drawing with the sensor-based robot, collecting and analyzing data, as well as engaging in block-based and Javascript text programming. By the end of the workshop, we will provide suggestions for classroom applications that cater to all grade levels, experience levels, and content areas.

This is a comprehensive training designed for districts whose Multilingual Learner populations are experiencing growth. It includes an overview of topics such as ML and immigrant rights, ML demographics in the US, an overview of the WIDA ACCESS Assessment and Can Do Descriptors, and the basics of language acquisition. We take a look at translanguaging, its implementation in the classroom and its benefits for Multilingual Learners. We will discuss strategies and activities that make effective use of student languages and the pedagogy of translanguaging.

Throughout the training, teachers will have a forum to share and discuss strategies that have worked for them as well as design a plan to incorporate new strategies into their instructional practice. We will look at various strategies that equip students with valuable self-monitoring and accountability tools. The expanded version of this very successful and popular workshop will provide a full day of Spice Language Arts training, demonstrating how to identify and apply the skills needed to teach and enhance writing abilities at the elementary and middle school level for NJSLA.  Language Arts teachers, special education teachers, and ELL teachers will learn a variety of techniques designed through years of practical use.  Spice strategies have been successful in improving state assessment scores.  After review of numerous state standards, participants will learn and practice unique assessment tools, skill application strategies for NJSLA prompts, and time testing awareness with encouragement tips.  The instructor will demonstrate close reading and modeled writing strategies, unique skill teaching techniques, and application of common core and New Jersey's core curriculum language arts skills used in NJSLA essays.  Written expression including chunking and conferencing will be covered extensively.  Join us for an engaging day of Spice writing and you'll be prepared to help your students become better writers.

In this workshop participants will learn how to develop caring and trusting relationships with students, and learn methods to help students de-escalate conflict and respond effectively to difficult social situations.
