1. MakerSpace: 3D Printing

Program: SRI&ETTC

Discover the possibilities of combining Computer Science and 3D printing in Makerspaces! Join us for an interactive session focused on 3D Printing, where you will engage in a series of hands-on exercises designed to teach you how to create 3D designs. Learn how to use easy-to-use coding software to create functional items, explore the materials commonly used in schools, and master the working and calibration of a 3D Printer to ensure successful prints. You will also learn how to slice objects into G-code that the printer can comprehend. This workshop will equip you with the knowledge and resources to integrate computer science standards into 3D printing best practices, enabling you to guide your students in 3D designing and printing. Michelle Wendt, an Instructional Technologist at the SRI&ETTC, will be leading the workshop. This session is ideal for educators working with students in Grades 3-12.

There are many tasks to accomplish at the end of the school year that will ensure a smooth transition into the next school year with regard to Intervention and Referral Services (I&RS). I&RS guidance requires schools and districts to assess the team's procedures, share the results, and apply improvements in the upcoming school year. Professional learning needs for the I&RS team or professional staff should be identified and planned. School leaders and I&RS team members should use the results of their assessment to create recommendations for school-wide planning purposes. This session will focus on how to conduct the end-of-year assessment of I&RS procedures and plan for the upcoming school year. Connections to other building-based teams will be shared as well as how to best collaborate with other teams in order to increase positive outcomes from I&RS. In addition, Title funds will be identified that can be used to support I&RS functions. Scheduling options for I&RS meetings will be shared as well.

As a result, it's only right to make sure that education programs are based on the most up-to-date science of reading principles. What works for an elementary student will not necessarily work for those slightly older - and specific adjustments may be needed. This workshop aims to examine the "do's and don'ts" when teaching reading to students in grades 4-12 within the context of scientific research by reviewing positive behaviors (what you should do).

This collaboration requires careful planning and maintenance to become an integral and valued part of the educational system. A strong I&RS team is necessary for an I&RS system to work effectively in a school.

This session will define the characteristics of an effective team while providing administrators with recommendations for team composition. Team member roles and responsibilities will be clarified. In addition, this session will identify the support needed for I&RS team operations from the board of education, central office administrators, building administrators, and school staff. Participants will learn the best practices for collaborative decision-making. The relationship of I&RS teams to other building-based groups will be explored. Finally, participants will explore appropriate models for I&RS functions.

Effective May 5, 2014, the NJ Teacher Mentoring Regulations have been amended to better align with the TEACHNJ Act, and specifies that mentors need training prior to working with novice teachers and guiding experienced teachers that are new to the district.

In this workshop, mentors will explore the mentoring process and understand the requirements for working with novice teachers. Practical strategies, skills, information, and resources will be discussed that will help them to successfully mentor novice teachers and positively impact their professional growth. Through role playing, communication skills, and knowledge of adult learning principles, mentor teachers will be provided with resources that will not only help them to become effective mentors, administrators and role models, but will also expand their own professional expertise.

This workshop will focus on enhancing use of and addressing common challenges using the Danielson framework. Topics include determining a score when evidence falls between levels, conducting post-observation conferences, building inter-rater reliability, and working with your faculty leadership teams (e.g. DEAC, ScIP). Additionally, utilizing the framework for instructional improvement will be explored.

The Danielson Refresher for Experienced Administrators workshop will be presented by Kim Tucker.
After serving 20 years as a public school teacher and 11 as a public school administrator, Kim is now an adjunct professor of Early Childhood Education at Stockton University. In addition, she is an educational consultant for ETTC, NJPSA and New Jersey school districts. As a board member and former president of Learning Forward New Jersey, Kim is passionate about providing quality professional learning to educators on a variety of topics.

This intermediate-level course provides an evidence-based overview of best practices for managing school-age children who stutter and clutter. Stuttering is a multidimensional, multifactorial communication disorder that has long eluded complete scientific understanding. Its complex nature often challenges both clinicians and children in defining, measuring, diagnosing, and fully conceptualizing the disorder. This session will address practical challenges by reviewing current research and outlining effective assessment practices, evidence-based therapy techniques, and strategies for supporting the attitudes and emotions that influence communication. Participants will gain tools to enhance clinical decision-making and improve outcomes for children.

Learning Outcomes
1. Describe the multidimensional nature of stuttering, including its affective, cognitive, and behavioral components.
2. Identify evidence-based tools and procedures for collecting quantitative data relevant to evaluating a school-age child's stuttering.
3. Identify evidence-based tools and procedures for gathering qualitative information that captures the child's experiences, communication impact, and contextual factors.
4. Develop functional outcomes and write meaningful, contextually relevant goals for children who stutter.
5. Describe indirect therapeutic strategies that support a child's communication environment and overall fluency.
6. Describe direct therapy techniques used to address the core features of stuttering and promote effective communication skills.
7. Explain the importance of addressing attitudes and emotions in a therapy program for students who stutter.
8. Describe intervention strategies for addressing the attitudes & emotions of students in a speech therapy program.
