Effective classroom managers are known not only by what they do when misbehavior occurs, but by what they do to set their classrooms up for academic success and to prevent problems from occurring. In many classrooms, up to half of the school day is lost to discipline and other non-instructional activities. We know that creating a positive classroom culture engages students, not only IN learning but in creating an environment FOR learning. This requires leadership, not just management. Every teacher is a leader and every effective leader is a teacher. This leadership is a skill set anyone can learn and everyone can improve. Whether you are a teacher leader, a lead teacher, a leader that teaches or a coach of teachers, you can build your bench of instructional leaders through consistent implementation of effective classroom practices. In this interactive session, you will explore classroom tools and resources and implementation "look-fors” for the eight evidence-based effective classroom practices and make a plan for coaching and leading these practices in your setting. This session will offer you opportunities to determine "non-negotiables” for your staff expectations and explore walk-through tools and models. Time for networking with other leaders will be offered, in order to effectively lead, support, and coach successful classroom management. Own your role and lead on. 4. Paraprofessional Training for ECSE and Elementary

The purpose of this paraprofessional training is to define major responsibilities of a paraprofessional in the educational setting, confidentiality, communication, teamwork, behavior management, and ways to prompt students, etc. We will review the special education process in order to develop a basic understanding of the process and how students are found eligibile and discuss how to best support the students with whom paraprofessionals work. This training will emphasis ECSE and Elementary paraprofessionals work. The cost is $40 and includes parking, breakfast, and lunch. Breakfast will be served starting at 8:30 as you sign-in and get settled- training will begin promptly at 9:00. Working lunch will be served around 11:30 or 12:00 and you will be done by 3:00 P.M.

5. PBIS 101- PBIS for New Teachers & New Implementers

We know that when teachers know and use positive and preventative management strategies, many of the commonly reported minor classroom behaviors can be avoided. We also know that these classroom management strategies and positive behavior supports increase instructional time for the teachers and increase engaged time for the students. This interactive session is designed to respond to the need for supporting new teachers and implementers with student behaviors by engaging students through consistent and effective instructional strategies and research-based classroom practices. Our intended outcomes are for participants to walk away with a better understanding of the PBIS framework and how it supports students and staff and have opportunities to experience, engage, and practice strategies shared in order to take back to the classroom for in-the-moment implementation. This interactive session is designed to respond to the need for supporting teachers with student behaviors by engaging students through consistent and effective instructional strategies and research-based classroom practices. We will share and model specific strategies research has shown to be most effective at reducing classroom behaviors, increasing instructional time, and promoting student engagement. We will offer opportunities throughout the session to experience, engage, and practice the strategies and practices shared, with plenty to take back to the classroom for in-the-moment implementation. 8. Function Based Thinking

This workshop will explore how all behavior is a form of communication and serves a purpose. Participants will learn the principles of behavior change, methods for teaching replacement behaviors, and strategies for weakening undesired behavior. Participants will explore the four functions of behavior (Sensory, Escape, Attention, Tangible), and interventions that address each function. The workshop format will allow participants to process a specific student, examine the function of behavior, and leave with strategies to begin to immediately apply. This workshop is designed for special education teachers, regular education teachers, paras, counselors, administrators and/or any team member working with students with challenging behaviors. A light breakfast, lunch and parking are included.

9. It's All Fun & Games Until Your Teacher Figures Out Your Function- Using Evidence-Based Classroom Practices With Intentionality

"The same behaviors that reduce classroom disruptions are associated with increased student learning.” -Jere Brophy & Thomas Good Consider this question: "Do my actions/reactions positively or negatively reinforce student behaviors?” All behavior is functionally related to the teaching environment. Figuring out the function, what that student is trying to communicate through the behavior, requires some creative "detective work” and will help classroom teachers know how to respond to that behavior most effectively. In this interactive session educators will learn about and engage with the how and when to use specific, evidence-based classroom practices such as: ▶ Demonstrate active supervision of the classroom. ▶ Incorporate multiple opportunities to respond into your classroom teaching. ▶ Selectively use activity sequencing and choice as needed to maintain student engagement. ▶ Consider and adjust task difficulty to increase student success and diminish problem behavior. Intentionality in aligning and using these practices, like detective work, will lead to the "motive,” the behavior's function and reduce inappropriate behaviors in the classroom. 10. Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plans

This workshop offers a step-by-step guide to completing thorough and successful FBA and BIPs for IEP students experiencing severe behaviors. Participants will receive information on how to successfully: *Use data to determine target behaviors and create a functional hypothesis. *Analyze ABC data to determine the function of behavior and choose the best antecedent and consequence interventions. *Write an FBA and BIP Participants will receive examples of forms to use throughout the FBA and BIP process. A light breakfast, lunch and parking are included. This session is designed for Special Education Teachers, Process Coordinators, administrators, or others conducting FBAs on IEP students.

11. De-escalating Challenging Behaviors- Understanding and Managing the Acting-Out Cycle

"Managing challenging behavior relieves stress within the entire school culture, provides more focused instructional time and increases the likelihood all our children will achieve academic and social success!” Consider a time when an individual (or a group of students) shifts from demonstrating the calm of expected behavior of working independently on an assigned academic task to displaying unexpected behaviors or inappropriate behaviors. Something (a request to complete a non-preferred task or to work with a non-preferred peer, experiencing an academic challenge, a comment made by a peer, a change in room temperature, hunger, etc) happens that triggers the student. Unexpected behaviors can quickly escalate in individual students. Understanding the pattern which the acting-out cycle occurs allows adults to plan for, and respond to, the event in a proactive manner. The goal is to ensure safety for the individual student, and all others involved, while helping the student learn more acceptable strategies to self-regulate when they feel anxious, upset, or angry. In this interactive session, you will learn how to identify the specific behaviors of the 7 phases of the Acting-Out Cycle and identify environmental supports that can be provided to intervene early in the acting-out cycle. 12. Behavior Data Collection: The When, Why, and How

This workshop will explore multiple methods for collecting and using data for IEP students experiencing severe behaviors. This deep dive into data collection will aid participants in collecting data for FBA, BIP, and data for Manifestation Determination Hearings. Participants will receive multiple forms to aid in the collection and organization of data. * Records data (Health, Discipline, Academic, Attendance, Social/Emotional…) * Baseline (frequency, latency, duration, permanent product, task analysis, momentary time sample) * ABC data for the use of identifying the function of behavior * Progress Monitoring Data to determine success of interventions A light breakfast, lunch and parking are included. 13. Evidence Based Practices for Students with Severe Behaviors

This workshop will help participants choose and implement interventions proven to be effective for students experiencing severe behaviors. This training will discuss multiple strategies for behavior change, including antecedent interventions (changes to the environment), teaching replacement behaviors, and altering consequences. Participants will gain knowledge in how to match interventions to the four functions driving behavior (sensory, escape, attention and tangible). This workshop is designed for special education teachers, regular education teachers, paras, counselors, administrators and/or any team member working with students with challenging behaviors.
