Embark on a thought-provoking journey in our book study of Devin Vodicka's "Learner-Centered Leadership: A Blueprint for Transformational Change in Learning Communities." Vodicka offers a deeply researched and urgent blueprint for orienting education around the strengths, interests, and needs of individual learners. Together we will discuss how to infuse our takeaways to reshape educational approaches, champion inclusivity, and contribute toa. more equitable future for all learners. Join fellow Transition Coordinators for a dynamic and collaborative networking session designed to foster connection, share best practices, and strengthen support systems for individuals with disabilities preparing for life after high school. This session offers a unique opportunity to engage with colleagues from across districts, agencies, and organizations who are committed to improving postsecondary outcomes in education, employment, and independent living.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

Exchange tools, strategies, and resources for effective transition planning.

Discuss challenges and successes in implementing IDEA-aligned transition services.

Explore collaborative approaches to engage families, schools, and community partners.

Learn about regional and state-level initiatives, supports, and funding opportunities.

Create and grow a professional network dedicated to student-centered transition planning.

5. Transition Council

Program: Workshop

Audience: educators, agency representatives, families, and community stakeholders

Dates: 10/9/2025

Meeting Times: 9:00pm - 11:00am

The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) Transition Council is a collaborative network of educators, agency representatives, families, and community stakeholders dedicated to supporting successful postsecondary outcomes for students with disabilities. The council provides a forum to share resources, best practices, and current information related to transition planning, services, and supports.

Through quarterly meetings, guest speakers, and facilitated discussions, the CCIU Transition Council fosters partnerships between school districts and adult service providers, encourages student-centered planning, and promotes awareness of local and state transition initiatives. The council serves as a hub for collaboration and professional development aimed at empowering students with disabilities to achieve their goals in employment, education, independent living, and community participation.

Participation is open to all who are involved in or passionate about transition planning in Chester County and beyond.

6. Building Thinking Classrooms- Introduction (Mild)

Program: Workshop

Audience: Teachers, instructional coaches, interventionists, math supervisors

Dates: 1/15/2026

Meeting Times: 8:30am - 11:30am

Sparked by observing teachers struggle to implement rich mathematics tasks to engage students in deep thinking, Peter Liljedahl has translated his 15 years of research into a set of 14 optimal practices for thinking that create an ideal setting for deep mathematics learning to occur. When combined, these unique research-based practices create the optimal conditions for learner-centered, student-owned deep mathematical thinking and learning, and have the power to transform mathematics classrooms like never before. In this first introduction session, participants will learn more in depth about the first three practices: thinking tasks, forming visibly random groups, and use of vertical non-permanent surfaces. Participants will experience the practices themselves and have time to interact with resources for further application and action.
