Once again, we will be offering our Understanding Special Education Data for State Reporting - EOY Special ED / State Reporting review workshop. IN this workshop, we will review why reporting this data accurately is important, and how it is used at the State level. This session is intended for any new special education office staff who are responsible for reporting the PD Data System Verification Reports 11-16. This session will also cover how to troubleshoot issues, how to set up your preschoolers and incoming K students for the summer and for next year, and lastly how to exit students from IEPDirect for state reporting Each verification report will be explained and reviewed. Presented by retired Special Education experts, Dr. Roberta Kupietz and Dr. Arlene Genden Sage. This session is also relevant to current District Data Coordinators who would like to learn more about this collection of reports and how to resolve errors. Anne Rullan, Ed.D, Professional Development Consultant, will facilitate professional learning to develop a better understanding of Response to Intervention, Multi-Tiered System of Support, data-driven decision making, and targeted interventions to improve student outcomes.

Professional learning will focus on:
  • Ensuring district plans meet the requirements of RtI as outlined by NYSED
  • Understanding data and how it informs what type of intervention to use
  • Understanding the lagging skills and/or learning gaps to make appropriate recommendations

    Think Wellness is offering this 18 hour certification program to help you create a personal mindfulness practice while teaching you the science behind mindfulness.

    Part I: Introduction to Mindfulness & Movement In this six-hour Level I course we will explore the concept of Mindfulness, how to incorporate it into your everyday life, and the possible benefits of using this practice on a daily basis. We will practice connecting to the 5 senses as well as learning breathing techniques to calm the mind. Educators will also engage in beginner Mindful Movements through yoga postures connected to breathe awareness for stress management and relaxation.

    Part II: How Mindfulness & Meditation Affect The Brain And Mental State In the six-hour Level II course we will indulge in the scientific aspect of Mindfulness. How does Mindfulness physically affect the brain and body? Learn how to increase focus, help relieve anxiety and stress as well as many other benefits. Creating a mindfulness practice can be life changing for you and your students.

    Part III: Integrating Mindfulness & Movement Into The Classroom The six-hour Level III course will provide educators with in-depth training to integrate Mindfulness & Movement into the classroom. We can normalize this healthy practice by utilizing mindfulness as a positive tool within our schools, as well as learning to track our success. Educators will learn practical age appropriate lesson plans to add to their curriculum through themed activities, exercises in breathing, sensory experience, guided imagery, and movement.

    18. *VIRTUAL* Educator Care Teacher Mentoring Professional Development Program

    This is a 15-hour Certificate of Completion program for teachers who seek to become trained mentors.

    New York State requires all teachers, brand new to the profession, to receive 30 hours of mentorship, by a trained teacher mentor, in order to receive Professional Certification. The Educator Care Teacher Mentoring Professional Development Program will focus on the methodology needed to train mentors, explain how to implement a mentor program in a school and evaluate the program's effectiveness.

    This program is designed around the 10 NYS standards for teacher mentoring and will train experienced teachers to become influential mentors to new teachers starting in the profession.

    After the 15-hour mentor training program, teachers will receive a Certificate of Completion for the program which is aligned to NYS guidelines and will be eligible to serve as mentors for their school and or district.

    This program will be comprised of a 2-hour virtual presentation and a 1-hour independent self-paced component during each meeting.

Students with incorrect data may "drop out" of the state reporting system. Attending this workshop will increase the likelihood of correct teacher-student relationships and ensure data will smoothly transmit to SED. This is an interactive workshop with ample hands-on time to learn to manipulate files.
    This open house is for new CSE Chairpersons/Special Education Directors. Please sign-up every person who will be attending this open house and tour. The open house will include a meet and greet with the Nassau BOCES Department of Special Education's leadership and a presentation from the school's principal.     Holocaust testimony is an important component of any district's Holocaust education program. Bondi's Brother by Irving and Edward Roth is Irving's self-published testimony of his life.

    This full day workshop will focus on a variety of instructional methods to facilitate Holocaust instruction and education for upper elementary school through the high school level. The USHMM Guidelines for teaching the Holocaust with examples and implementation suggestions will also be explored.

The Integral Role Mental Health Professionals have in the Assessment and Management of Threat/Risk within K-12 Settings Kostas A. Katsavdakis, Ph.D., ABPP is a Diplomate in Forensic Psychology with the American Board of Professional Psychology . He is retained by Prosecutors, Defense Attorneys and the State/Federal Court to evaluate defendants charged with violent sexual and violent non-sexual crimes. Dr. Katsavdakis conducts threat assessments/management, including at the request of the United States Department of Justice for counterterrorism related cases and as an Associate with Work Trauma Services, based in San Francisco, for workplace and campus settings. In addition to his forensic and threat management practice, he maintains a clinical caseload, providing individual treatment for adults and juveniles. Dr. Katsavdakis is currently an Associate Professor-Adjunct at John Jay College of Criminal Justice where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in psychology of criminal behavior, forensic psychological testing, assessment of psychopathy and psychology/law.     Educator's Edge is a Cohort group aimed at supporting classroom teachers by providing them with evidence-based strategies to fully integrate SEL benchmarks in everyday instruction. Course three is You Are What You Teach. The course "You Are What You Teach: Being Your Best Self" is a transformative journey that blends personal development with the art of teaching. This course empowers educators and facilitators to not only impart knowledge but also embody the qualities of authenticity, empathy, and growth.     In recent years, the increase of English language learners (ELLs) in our schools has required educators to look at their current teaching practices through a different lens. While teachers have faced the challenge of effectively teaching the ELL students in their classroom, it has also provided an opportunity for educators to grow and learn.

    This hands-on, interactive workshop will provide participants with strategies and instruction ideas tailored to meeting the needs of secondary English language learners.

    The NYSED Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CR-SE) Framework Implementation Roadmap is designed to assist and support districts and educators with the implementation of the important key principles of the NYSED CR-SE Framework. Districts and schools have unique starting points and are at different places along their implementation journey. The goal of this workshop is to provide guidance about how districts can customize goal setting, implementation plans, and action steps based on local needs and goals. Workshop content will include strategies for unpacking the NYSED CR-SE Framework's key principles, engaging stakeholders, building capacity, and supporting sustainable growth.

The online portion must be completed before attending the Part 2 face-to-face session (virtual via zoom-live). Please note that you have to spend 180 minutes on Part 1 and your score cannot be anything lower than a 70 or else you will have to retake Part 1 before moving onto Part 2.

    Participants will:
  • Understand rational for key components and definitions in the Dignity for All Students Act
  • Understand diversity and examine personal biases
  • Develop sensitivity to the experiences of specific student populations
  • Understand how school climate and culture have an impact on student achievement Learn intervention and prevention strategies including how to interact with families.

    Part 1 must be successfully completed one week prior to the start of Part 2.
    Upon completion, your DASA Certification will be uploaded to NYS and show-up on your TEACH account.
