1. 2023 Industry Tour for Educators: Healthcare

Career Ready Lancaster!, The Youth Council of the Lancaster County Workforce Development Board, the Lancaster Chamber, and Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 are pleased to announce the 2023 Industry Tours for Educators. These annual tours give educators a chance to step outside the classroom and into local industries to learn about a variety of occupations, projected job growth, and new technology within the manufacturing, health care, and live event industries.

Notes:
Transportation and lunch will be provided courtesy of Career Ready Lancaster! Check-in will begin at 8:00 a.m. in the Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 Lobby at 1020 New Holland Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601. The bus will depart from the IU13 parking lot promptly at 8:30 a.m. (please arrive at least 10 minutes early) and will return between 3:00 - 3:30 p.m.

Cost:
All participant costs are being underwritten by Career Ready Lancaster!, the Lancaster Chamber, and participating employers. There is no cost to participating educators.

IU13 is partnering with SHAPE PA LLB conference to bring you the 2023 Lancaster-Lebanon Health, PE and Wellness Conference to Health and Physical Education teachers in Lancaster & Lebanon counties and beyond!
Connect in person with your peers, and learn from interactive Act 48 sessions and keynote speaker Bo Shappell.

About the Keynote:
Bo Shappell is a high school health & physical education teacher at the Daniel Boone Area School District. He is the co-founder of WE (wellness education) Integrated, an organization that offers educational workshops and products that inspire meaningful connections and genuine play. COMCHI, WE Integrated's flagship product, is used by educators worldwide to foster SEL in the classroom. Bo is the co-author of ALL IN: The Mindset of Fitness. He is the academic leader for creative arts and human performance within his school district, a leader of districtwide SEL initiatives, and has implemented numerous programs aimed at improving mental, emotional, and physical wellness for staff and students. Some of these programs are featured as resources for SHAPE PA, SHAPE America, and the PA Department of Education.

We understand that there is a need for flexibility to attend virtual meetings as well as a need to have organic discussions and collaborations that only occur during face-to-face meetings. This year there will be four virtual-only meetings and three face-to-face only meetings in order to accommodate the needs of all our participants.

Audience: K-12 Educators, Administrators, and Instructional Coaches

This session focuses on the reasons why students may forget what they've learned and how educators can support student retention. The session explores memory processes and factors that contribute to forgetting, such as cognitive overload and lack of repetition. Strategies for enhancing retention, such as active learning techniques and retrieval practice, are also discussed. Educators will leave with practical tools to help their students better retain and apply what they've learned in the classroom.

18. Make Learning Stick - High Impact Instructional Strategies

Program: Curriculum and Instruction/ IS

Audience: K-12 Educators, Administrators, and Instructional Coaches

Dates: 2/27/2024

This session draws on cognitive science research to provide practical techniques for educators and learners to improve long-term memory and transfer of learning. It emphasizes the importance of active learning, feedback, and frequent retrieval practice in achieving deep understanding and long-term retention of information. The focus will be on effective strategies for enhancing learning and retention with time to develop plans for the classroom.
