Dates: 8/8/2024

By viewing education through a trauma-informed lens, we can understand and mitigate the widespread and long-lasting impact of trauma in schools. We'll unpack relevant principles and explore carefully-chosen programming & instruction practices - all designed to foster safety, choice, predictability, collaboration, and a sense of agency, as well as lessen possible re-traumatization. When we refine the relational, physical, and instructional practices within a building, staff and students can develop a sense of connection and emotional safety - together.

Session Objectives:

• Understand the variety of ways that trauma and stress might show up in the classroom, office, or hallway with a school setting,
• Recognize how our own nervous systems and tendencies can impact those we are working beside, caring for, or teaching,
• Consider easy refinements to the physical environment, daily routines, and means of interactions that increase a student's availability to learn,
• Test-drive instructional practices to support regulation, relating, and reasoning,
• Identify how trauma-informed classroom/school principles and strategies can be implemented within the classroom, across these domains:
• Physical setting
• Instructional strategies

PRIOR TO THE EVENT As part of your learning, we ask that you listen to the Conversations That Matter podcast by Caron Treatment Center's Education Alliance, Trauma-Informed in Action.
