Choice Boards are a way of organizing resources and learning tasks for students as well as offers students the opportunity to go beyond the curriculum. This online workshop is intended to provide an overview of Dyslexia.

Dyslexia, the most recognized of reading problems, is a neurological disorder that is often characterized by difficulties in recognizing and decoding words, leading to lower comprehension and fluency. Although there is no exact count, it is estimated that one in ten people may be afflicted with some form of dyslexia.

Governor Christie signed legislation that prominently recognizes dyslexia in state statute and regulation, making it a requirement for districts to deal with this disability. A definition of dyslexia must now be specifically written into special education code and a yearly 2-hour professional development requirement for dyslexia is now mandated for all teachers in grades pre-K through grade 3, special education, reading and ESL teachers, reading specialists, learning disabilities teacher consultants, and speech-language specialists.

This two-hour webinar will provide participating administrators, pre-K to 3 educators, Special Education supervisors, and Child Study Team members with detailed information about this legislation, citing the specificity and requisites that impact the governance and operation of all school districts in New Jersey. This one hour webinar of the very successful and popular workshop will provide SPICE training demonstrating how to identify and apply skills needed to teach and enhance writing abilities at the elementary and middle school level. This workshop will focus on enhancing use of and addressing common challenges using the Danielson framework. Topics include determining a score when evidence falls between levels, con-ducting post-observation conferences, building inter-rater reliability, and working with your faculty leadership teams (e.g. DEAC, ScIP). Effective May 5, 2014, the NJ Teacher Mentoring Regulations have been amended to better align with the TEACHNJ Act, and specifies that mentors need training prior to working with novice teachers and guiding experienced teachers that are new to the district.

In this workshop, mentors will explore the mentoring process and understand the requirements for working with novice teachers. Practical strategies, skills, information, and resources will be discussed that will help them to successfully mentor novice teachers and positively impact their professional growth. Through role playing, communication skills, and knowledge of adult learning principles, mentor teachers will be provided with resources that will not only help them to become effective mentors, administrators and role models, but will also expand their own professional expertise.

Effective May 5, 2014, the NJ Teacher Mentoring Regulations have been amended to better align with the TEACHNJ Act, and specifies that mentors need training prior to working with novice teachers and guiding experienced teachers that are new to the district.

In this workshop, mentors will explore the mentoring process and understand the requirements for working with novice teachers. Practical strategies, skills, information, and resources will be discussed that will help them to successfully mentor novice teachers and positively impact their professional growth. Through role playing, communication skills, and knowledge of adult learning principles, mentor teachers will be provided with resources that will not only help them to become effective mentors, administrators and role models, but will also expand their own professional expertise.

This workshop will focus on developing a working knowledge of the Danielson Framework with exploration of the four domains and their components. Practice with collecting ample evidence, scoring the observation, and conducting the post-observation conference will be provided.
