Understand rational for key components and definitions in the Dignity for All Students Act

Understand diversity and examine personal biases.

Develop sensitivity to the experiences of specific student populations.

Understand how school climate and culture have an impact on student achievement.

Learn intervention and prevention strategies including how to interact with families.

The State Education Department requires all evaluators of teachers and principals to be certified through an appropriate training process. During this in-person and interactive Teacher Evaluation Training workshop, participants will explore the following topics:

1. Recent history of theory and practice relative to teacher evaluation

2. Understanding the most recent version of NYSED's APPR/STEPS Regulations

3. The application of rubrics in evaluating classroom lessons

Course # EDDU 9924 Instructor: Valerie Fiano GRAD THROUGH UMASS GLOBAL OR IN-SERVICE This course will focus on learning about the global and cultural needs of our students as it relates to education. When participants gain an understanding about these cultures, they can infuse certain teaching practices to help them to become successful learners within the classroom and beyond. With this knowledge, participants will learn how to infuse culturally diverse materials into their classroom curriculum and be able to teach students to value various cultures and beliefs. It is especially important for educators to have a knowledge about other cultures as they are working with these students on a daily basis - the direct student outcome is that they will feel inclusive of the class and be more successful learners as well. Project Adventure Education Programs - These activities facilitate personal and interpersonal growth (communication, problem-solving, trust-building, risk-taking, and cooperation). They are excellent choices for sports and work teams, peer counseling groups, at-risk students, teacher in-services, and all groups seeking a strong cooperative experience.

Teambuilding Activities are instrumental in the practice of SEDL skills (social, emotional, development and learning) and help to meet district goals for addressing the Dignity Act and 21st Century skills. As New York transitions to WIDA ACCESS assessments as the English language proficiency assessments, districts may have questions about aligning instruction for English Language Learners (ELLs). New York will not adopt the WIDA ELD Standards Framework. NYSED's Academic and Linguistic Demands: Creating Access to the Next Generation Learning Standards in English Language Arts for Linguistically Diverse Learners (ALDs) remains the framework for planning, standards alignment, and supporting ELLs, including ELLs with disabilities.

This full-day session provides an overview of the ALDs. Participants will explore how the ALDs support instructional planning and language development across content areas for ELLs. The session will also highlight the CR-S Education considerations and strategies embedded within the ALDs to promote equitable access and meaningful learning experiences for all students.

Participants will leave with a foundational understanding of the ALDs and their application in designing instruction that supports language development and grade-level learning and promotes progress in student learning and achievement.

In this hands-on workshop, we'll explore how to redesign your STEM classroom so that students are active participants in their own learning, not passive recipients of yours. Discovery-based, student-centered instruction is about doing the work before students walk through the door so the magic can happen once they do. The payoff: when students have the structures and agency to drive their own learning, you're not adding to your workload: you're reducing it. Less reteaching. More engagement. Less carrying the cognitive load for the entire room. We'll dig into how your warm-up and exit ticket can become engines for student discovery, why letting students wrestle with content before mastering it is a feature rather than a flaw, and how thin slicing and scaffolding let you guide students forward without giving the learning away.
