This workshop will equip classroom teachers with practical and engaging vocabulary routines to support English Language Learners in all content areas. Participants will learn strategies to build vocabulary knowledge, enhance comprehension, foster retention, and develop oral language: how to select keywords from tiered vocabulary for direct instruction and word learning strategies in morphology, context clues, cognate awareness, and creating opportunities for authentic language use. Teachers will develop a consistent approach for incorporating vocabulary instruction as a daily part of routines that foster listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. Join district leaders and instructional teams for a professional learning day focused on the strategic design and implementation of NYSED Graduation Pathways. Partnering for a third year, Local Civics and the Sullivan County Teacher Center will highlight how the NY Inspires and Portrait of a Graduate frameworks impact pathway development and planning. Whether you are just beginning the planning process or have already launched several pathways, this collaborative session will enable you to unpack NYSED criteria, iterate on current designs, and align learning experiences with your district's unique goals. We will analyze case studies of successful pathways from regional districts and highlight innovative models from across the state. This working session aims to move beyond theory, offering a collaborative space to design and plan for scalable, high-quality graduation pathways within our regional context. You will leave this session with resources to design and evaluate multiple +1 Graduation Pathways, such as the Seal of Civic Readiness, the Seal of Biliteracy, and various tracks of the Individualized Arts Assessment Pathway. The session will have dedicated design time, where educators will deep-dive into an existing pathway or begin structural planning for a new one alongside regional colleagues. "Independent literacy time often breaks down when students lack the routines and executive function skills needed to work on their own. This workshop helps teachers design purposeful, Science of Reading-aligned independent literacy tasks that students can manage successfully while the teacher provides small-group instruction. Participants will explore low-prep activities that support decoding, fluency, vocabulary, word work, and comprehension, along with strategies for teaching routines, visual supports, and self-management skills. Teachers will leave with practical ideas and ready-to-use strategies to strengthen student independence during literacy block. 3.0 hours total.
