Workshop Description:

The CSE/CPSE Chairperson Training is made up of 10 modules: Regulatory Foundations, Referral, Evaluation, Eligibility, IEP Recommendation/Development, IEP Implementation, Annual Review, Reevaluation, Effective Meetings and Preschool Special Education. Please note the last day of the training will be devoted to Committee on Preschool Special Education​​

The goals of this training are to provide CPSE/CSE Chairpersons with information to enhance their knowledge and skills to:
1. Understand the special education process as delineated in New York State Education Law and Regulations;
2. Perform specific responsibilities as Chairperson of the Committee;
3. Develop practices that encourage parental involvement and cultivate home-school partnerships; and
4. Identify strategies for the Committee to make high quality decisions that will result in an individualized education program (IEP) that meets State requirements and will result in educational benefit to the student.

Please note there will be some required pre-work for the modules that must be completed prior to training.

This interactive workshop will provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the transition planning process and the components within a transition-focused IEP. Attendees will deepen their understanding of best practices and evidence-based strategies related to quality transition services and planning.

Participants will: - Identify key components of high-quality Transition IEPs and understand the transition planning process.
- Identify key elements of the Present Levels of Performance; transition needs and course of study; the Coordinated Set of Activities; and the components needed to develop and write measurable postsecondary goals

Workshop Description:

The purpose of this training is to help participants gain skills to develop measurable goals in the Individual Education Program (IEP). Participants will learn the regulations related to goal writing, how to develop observable language for the goal and how to determine the specific components that measure progress in the goal. The training will also focus on the importance of well written, data-based present levels of performance as the foundation of the goals.

Participants will be able to:



• Describe the relationship between identified needs in the data-based present levels of performance and prioritized measurable annual goals.



• Explain each of the four components of measurable annual goals.

Workshop Description:

It is never too early to start promoting your child's vocabulary development! In this workshop on "Explicit Vocabulary Instruction for Parents: How to Support Your Child's Vocabulary Development,” you will learn what you can easily do at home to strengthen your child's vocabulary knowledge. This workshop will teach you simple techniques that you can implement at home that will support and meaningfully engage all learners in developing their vocabulary, leading to stronger verbal, reading, and writing skills. Workshop Description:

This regional learning will fulfill the requirement for districts who have received Needs Assistance Year 1, Required Regional Learning as part of their 2025 IDEA Designation.

Foundational content and learning on Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). This training will assist in developing district-wide supports for students with disabilities to learn in general education environments.

In addition, we will discuss ways to review and revise policies, procedures and practices that result in LRE identification.

Participants will be able to identify and address factors contributing to LRE identification and develop staff training for equitable understanding, as well as increase the amount of time students with disabilities spend within the general education environment.

Workshop Description:

This interactive workshop helps administrators gain a greater understanding of what the Science of Reading has determined to be the foundational skills needed to become a proficient reader.  Participants will explore current instructional practices in reading and the impact they have on reading proficiency.  This workshop will also provide context for the importance of effective reading instruction and the impact that it has on equity for all students. To overcome equity barriers, school leaders need to support educators in utilizing systemic, explicit instruction to teach the skills supported by the science of reading.  This training also highlights ineffective practices and why those may not be working; this is intended to inform leadership support of teachers implementing research-based and effective reading instruction.

Workshop Description:

Special Education Quality Assurance (SEQA) conducts the State Performance Plan (SPP) 13: Secondary Transition compliance review in the Fall of the school year a district is scheduled for monitoring of SPP Indicator 13 (in accordance with the six-year monitoring cycle). The purpose of this training is to review key concepts of this compliance review to ensure districts are developing individualized education programs (IEPs) for students aged 15 and over that meet SPP Indicator 13 compliance requirements. Workshop Description:
This interactive workshop provides information on the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the New York State Education Department (NYSED) regarding Special Education Mediation to encourage the use of this voluntary process statewide. This training will include the following topics: Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA): The Basics, Resolving Disputes Under IDEA and IDEA Special Education Basic Mediation Procedures.

Mediation is a highly effective process to resolve issues relating to special education. In 2014- 2015, of those cases that proceeded to a mediation session in New York State, 88% resulted in agreement between parents and school districts. In mediation, the focus is on establishing collaboration and communication between the parties. In addition, mediation is provided at no cost to the parents and school district and is a less adversarial and time consuming way of resolving disputes.

Please join us to learn how to foster vocabulary development at home. This interactive workshop is intended for caregivers of preschool and school-age children (with and without disabilities) to learn the importance of vocabulary instruction and ways to incorporate explicit instruction and vocabulary instruction at home. Other participants are welcome to join in consideration of building home-school connections.

Workshop Description:

The purpose of the Family Guide to Transition Planning-Preparing Students with Disabilities for Life After High School is to assist families in understanding the transition planning process specifically from high school to life after high school. When families are knowledgeable about the transition process and invited to participate by Educational Organizations (EOs), students with disabilities experience improved post-school outcomes in the areas of employment, postsecondary education, and independent living.
