Workshop Description:

Participants will build fluency with the science of behavior that provides the theoretical foundation on which Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIPs) are based. They will acquire the skills necessary to complete the FBA process and develop the skills necessary to create, implement, and progress monitor the BIP. The training information provided will ensure that all participants acquire a skill set that aligns with the New York State Education Department P-12: Office of Special Education Part 200 regulations.

- Understanding the Behavior Pathway
- Build fluency with the theoretical foundations on which FBAs and BIPs are based (i.e., the behavioral pathway)
- Conducting the Functional Behavior Assessment
- Understand and develop the skills necessary to complete the FBA; learn the components of the Competing Behavior Pathway (CBP) from which to develop the BIP; how to incorporate family knowledge and involvement with the Long Island Family and Community Engagement Center (FACE)
- Using the Competing Behavior Pathway to Develop the Behavior Intervention Plan Identify interventions based upon the Competing Behavior Pathway
- Implementation and Progress Monitoring of the Behavior Intervention Plan Develop the skills necessary to 1) ensure the BIP is implemented with fidelity and 2) progress monitor a student's response to the plan with regard to changes in both the problem and replacement/desired behaviors.

Workshop Description:

This workshop is to provide participants with a high-level understanding of student- centered transition planning, including its purpose and significance in supporting students with disabilities as they prepare for life after high school. We will cover relevant New York State (NYS) regulations and federal requirements, highlight where transition is addressed within the Individualized Education Program (IEP), and explore the role and types of transition assessments. Participants will compare multiple graduation pathways, diploma, and credential options, and learn strategies to meaningfully engage all stakeholders in the process. Workshop Description:

Positive Solutions for Families is an evidence-based, parent training series for families of early childhood age children and professionals working with those families. Each session will provide information on how to promote children's social and emotional skills, understand their challenging behaviors, and use positive approaches to help children learn appropriate behavior at home, school or in community settings. Workshop Description:

Explicit instruction helps us support and meaningfully engage ALL students. It has quite an impact on diverse groups of students across all grade levels, in general and special education classrooms who are learning both academic and non-academic concepts. For all students, including students with disabilities and English Learners, it provides an approach that integrates listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and can be used in pre teaching and reteaching content and skills. For students with disabilities, it is also an important component of Specially Designed Instruction.

We will spend time in the areas below (and more!):
- breaking down concepts and skills to logically sequence lessons and craft clear objectives
- providing students with necessary schema and background knowledge, on which to build new understandings
- planning for guided and supported practice through modeling, demonstrating, thinking aloud, active engagement, scaffolding, and fading supports

Workshop Description:

The issue of in and out-of-school suspensions of all students, including students with disabilities, who demonstrate escalated classroom behavior, has become controversial and divisive leaving many staff members at odds. This training package, designed for building level administrators and teachers, is intended to help participants understand that exclusionary practices have significant short and long-term negative effects on academic, social-emotional, health and wellness, and family outcomes of students, and there are alternative approaches to discipline that lead to improved student outcomes. Participants will ground themselves in a common understanding of suspension, removal, and discipline, as well as influences, impacts, policies, and procedures that contribute to the on-going suspension crisis in schools today. Participants will build fluency with the science of behavior that provides the theoretical foundation on which Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIPs) are based. They will acquire the skills necessary to complete the FBA process and develop the skills necessary to create, implement, and progress monitor the BIP. This interactive workshop provides information on the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the New York State Education Department (NYSED) regarding Special Education Mediation to encourage the use of this voluntary process statewide. This training will include the following topics: Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA): The Basics, Resolving Disputes Under IDEA and IDEA Special Education Basic Mediation Procedures.

Mediation is a highly effective process to resolve issues relating to special education. In 2014- 2015, of those cases that proceeded to a mediation session in New York State, 88% resulted in agreement between parents and school districts. In mediation, the focus is on establishing collaboration and communication between the parties. In addition, mediation is provided at no cost to the parents and school district and is a less adversarial and time consuming way of resolving disputes.

It is meant to increase student and family knowledge of, and connection with appropriate, referral options and processes. The purpose of the Family Guide to Transition Planning-Preparing Students with Disabilities for Life After High School is to assist families in understanding the transition planning process specifically from high school to life after high school. Workshop Description:

This workshop is for anyone interested in learning more about the special education process. It also provides the needed training, as required by NYSED, to become an approved Parent Member of the CPSE/CSE. This workshop provides an overview of regulatory guidance related to the special education process, eligibility, and IEP development.

Participants will:
- Gain a foundational understanding of the special education process
- Understand the role and requirements of the additional Parent Member
- Learn techniques and strategies to become an effective participant in the CPSE/CSE process

This workshop is to provide participants with a high-level understanding of student- centered transition planning, including its purpose and significance in supporting students with disabilities as they prepare for life after high school. We will cover relevant New York State (NYS) regulations and federal requirements, highlight where transition is addressed within the Individualized Education Program (IEP), and explore the role and types of transition assessments. Participants will compare multiple graduation pathways, diploma, and credential options, and learn strategies to meaningfully engage all stakeholders in the process. The training also introduces the range of agencies and services available to support successful post-school outcomes.
