1. VESi-Reading Fundamentals #3: The Elements of Effective Reading Instruction & Assessment Undergraduate (EDV 423)

EDV 423 Esteves School of Education at Russell Sage College

This undergraduate course will focus on learning to read, reading to learn, and an introduction to reading assessment. As part of these two key areas of reading instruction, the five elements of effective reading instruction will be highlighted, including definitions, implications for instruction, and future directions. These five elements include instruction in: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehension. Further, we discuss information on teacher preparation in learning about comprehension strategy instruction and reading instruction, as well as how to integrate computer technology into the classroom. Additionally, the course will provide information on important assessment terms and definitions and will explore how reading assessment fits within federal mandated programs. This analysis includes specific recommendations on 29 reading assessments. 3 Undergraduate Credits

Participants have maximum of 1 year and a minimum of two weeks to complete the course. Course materials will be sent directly from Virtual Education Software, Inc. (VESi).

It is the responsibility of the student to check with their district and/or academic institution for applicability to a particular program and/or credit approval. There is no refund once the materials have been sent.

These are computer-based training courses and available only in an online download.

Online Requirement:
Requires, reliable/stable high speed internet connection.

Students must obtain an overall score of 70% or higher, with no individual exam score below 50%, to successfully pass the course.
