EDUC 503M Mercy College
Course dates 3/16/20-5/22/20
This course examines curriculum and instruction from the perspective of Early Childhood, Childhood, Middle Childhood, and Adolescent teachers of students with disabilities whose individual learning needs require teachers to go beyond typical models of general classroom instruction to give students with disabilities access to the general education curriculum and assessments. Teachers identify, examine, & practice a variety of effective teaching strategies for the education of students with disabilities. Teachers learn to differentiate an individualize instruction & engage in collegial collaboration. Registration deadline is 3/11/20 and course runs 10 weeks. Participants should log in daily to review and check assignments.
Required Text: Strategies for Teaching Learners with Special Needs, 10th edition, ISBN #9780132626156 Books can be purchased at your favorite bookstore.
Approved by NYS Education Department for Students with Disabilities (SWD). Individuals pursuing this additional certificate will apply on their own to the State Education Department, must pass the Content Specialty Test for Students with Disabilities as well as complete the 3 hour autism workshop.
IMPORTANT: Students are not eligible to register for a Mercy sponsored course through NYSUT ELT or UFT if:
-they have already completed 15 Mercy College credits through NYSUT ELT or UFT
-they are currently matriculated into a Mercy College degree or Advanced Certificate Program,
-they are on a financial hold with Mercy College, or
-they were academically dismissed by Mercy College.
ELT is not responsible for reimbursement of tuition for students who register for any Mercy courses if they meet any of the above criteria.
