1. Oral Language Development for English Learners Two Part Session

Program: ESC of Central Ohio Achievement & Leadership Services

Audience: Intended audience includes Teachers of ELs or struggling native speakers in K-2, and teachers of newcomer English learners in any grade, EL Coordinators, Curriculum Directors, and Literacy Coaches

Oral language development is essential for English learners and a foundation for literacy and academic success. Yet research shows that English learners typically spend only about 2% of class time talking. In these two online sessions, teachers will first look at the research behind the importance of oral language. Then the session explores best practices to teach and foster oral language for younger learners and newcomers. Topics include allotting time, using questions, and developing conversation skills. Intended audience includes Teachers of ELs or struggling native speakers in K-2, and teachers of newcomer English learners in any grade, EL Coordinators, Curriculum Directors, and Literacy Coaches. For members of the ESC's Title lll EL Consortium, use "ESC-EL” in the payment box. Districts in the ESC membership pay $40. Districts outside the ESC membership pay $50. 2. VIRTUAL - English Learner Administrator Network Meeting

Program: ESC of Central Ohio Achievement & Leadership Services

ELAN is a professional network offered to school administrators and teachers who provide programs and services to English learners. The network focuses on relevant topics and compliance issues, and shares resources. The meetings are open to Consortium member districts and all others. Topics will include discussions of data, trends in CCIP, district priorities, sharing research and evidence-based strategies, use of carryover and spending in required categories. PLEASE NOTE, THE MEETING WILL BE HELD VIRTUALLY. THE ZOOM LINK WILL BE SENT THE MORNING OF THE MEETING. Members of the ESCCO Title lll EL Consortium should enter "EL_ESC" in the payment box to waive the registration fee. For more information, contact Jill Kramer at jill.kramer@escco.org.

3. Collaboration with Content Teachers

Program: ESC of Central Ohio Achievement & Leadership Services

Audience: Intended audience includes EL teachers, content teachers and coordinators

Dates: 12/3/2020

This one-hour online session will discuss successful ways for EL teachers and Content Teachers to collaborate in order to support English learners in learning both language and content. Topics include building relationships, dealing with challenges, and getting administrator support. Intended audience includes EL teachers, content teachers and coordinators. For members of the ESC's Title lll EL Consortium, use "ESC-EL” in the payment box. Districts in the ESC membership pay $20. Districts outside the ESC membership pay $30.
