CATCH My Breath is a peer-reviewed, evidence-based youth vaping prevention program. CATCH My Breath is being used in schools and youth programs across the country and meets National and State Education Standards. SYNTACTIC AWARENESS is a game-changer for multilingual learners, supporting their reading comprehension, written and oral expression, content acquisition and knowledge of the English language all at once! COMBINATIONS involves explicit instruction in syntactical (sentence-level) routines that develop all domains of academic literacy simultaneously. These multiplier strategies are especially powerful for English learners because they also teach how the English language works. Please join us for this hands-on, introductory workshop based on ideas from our new book, Sentence Strategies for Multilingual Learners: Advancing Academic Literacy through Combinations (Routledge, 2023). You will learn how and why Combinations works to advance academic literacy for all students. You will leave with activities for immediate use that tap into and draw upon students' cultural and linguistic assets and that provide access to deep content learning and English language development concurrently. The training is intended to provide information related to the decision-making process and types of test accommodations, as well as the documentation of appropriate accommodations on the individualized education program (IEP). Computer-based testing and the implementation of "tests read," and scribing will also be covered. Expected outcomes: Students will be provided access to and participate in the general education curriculum and in courses that will prepare them to take and pass the required examinations.
