She'll also share tips for doing the online and video read-alouds that have been a staple during this pandemic. Whether it is the characters on the pages of our read-alouds, the families and cultures that are represented, or the author's experiences that inspire the picture books we share, children need to feel represented and heard. Our mentor texts can also be springboards to discuss the issues of our time with the students who are sitting before us. Using Jeff Anderson's Everyday Editing as a guide, we will discuss a philosophy crafted to help students both understand and enjoy grammar. Starting the year with an illustration study is a perfect way to build a foundation for strong writing. In this webinar, participants will learn about the Next Generation Learning Standards. The power of choosing the right mentor texts will be demonstrated and ways students can show meaning will be discussed.
