1. SUICIDE SAFETY FOR TEACHERS & SCHOOL STAFF

Program: Regional Safety Services

Dates: 8/26/2025

SST is a 60 to 90-minute basic suicide prevention awareness training for school staff. The training emphasizes the critical, but limited, role of teachers and ancillary staff at school. This offering is appropriate for school-based professionals who provide staff development, mental health consulting, and training to school personnel.

2. Regional School Nurses Committee Meetings

Program: Regional Safety Services

The Regional School Nurses Committee is a professional development and learning community that provides nurses, medical directors, and other school healthcare professionals with the latest updates on health and safety topics. The committee also offers valuable networking opportunities with other school districts and fosters dialogue between members and county and state partners. Additionally, special consultant members from local and regional organizations participate to share insights on current trends and deliver up-to-date training. This committee provides access to a variety of professional development opportunities to its members specific to their role in school health. In addition to the meetings, each year, a Nurse's Training Day is held over the summer where a variety of experts in the field of school health and safety provide training on a variety of topics trending and upon request from committee members.

Enhanced Science 21 - Preparing Students for the Elementary Level Science (ELS) Assessment Using Online Tools (Grade 3 Teachers)

Science 21 continues its mission to actively engage students with authentic science and engineering practices through hands-on and minds-on investigations in the classroom. Knowing that the ELS assesses students using online tools including but not limited to text boxes for constructed response items and drawing tools for constructing models, we are promoting an Enhanced version.

Teachers receive ongoing technical support on: creating and/or importing classes from Google Classroom; adding students; creating and viewing assignments (switching between teacher and student view); helping students submit completed assignments; grading notifications; reassigning student work for resubmission; exporting grades; strategically incorporating SAQs; and other technology needs that arise.

Teachers will pilot the STEM Sims platform throughout the 25-26 school year and will earn 4 CTLE credits for completing four feedback sessions. All sessions will be held virtually on Zoom from 3:30-4:30pm.

Space is limited to the first 50 Science 21 GRADE 3 teachers who register.

10. Emergency Response and Incident Commander Training for School Administrators (2 part training)

If you are new to school administration, or new to school safety, this two-part training is meant to give you tools, resources, plans, and an understanding of the statutory requirements in NYS (SAVE and RESCUE). This training will help you understand how to build and support the different teams required in a school setting, along with resources and training modules to help them deal with a variety of different situations. This will also provide an overview of the CSTAG threat assessment process, as well as developing a reunification plan for your building / district. This training will also encompass developing building zones for emergency response and instruction on conducting a threat and hazard identification risk assessment for your building / district.

These sessions provide immersion tasks, so teachers experience how students are expected to use the three dimensions of the standards to make sense of core science ideas.

    The workshop format consists of asynchronous pre-session activities and a 2-hour synchronous meeting using Zoom. Two CTLE credits will be awarded for completion of the pre-session activities, and two more credits will be awarded for attendance of the synchronous meeting per session. Each of the six sessions addresses about one-half of each unit's lessons.

  • 28. PPS and Special Education Leadership Surviving, Thriving and Reaping Professional and Personal Rewards

    29. Learning Collaborative for Co-Occurring Disorders Curriculum Implementation

    Program: Guidance & Child Study Center

    This three-part learning collaborative is designed for educators, mental health professionals, and school teams implementing the harris project's Co-Occurring Disorders (COD) Curriculum during the 2025-26 school year.

    Building on your initial training, these sessions will provide continued support to help ensure successful and meaningful implementation of this important prevention initiative. Each session offers opportunities to deepen your understanding, reflect on early experiences, and build confidence in delivering the curriculum.

  • Review the structure and key components of the COD Curriculum
  • Explore practical strategies for classroom delivery and integration
  • Engage in peer-to-peer discussion to share lessons learned and troubleshoot challenges

  • 30. SUICIDE SAFETY FOR TEACHERS & SCHOOL STAFF

    SST is a 60 to 90-minute basic suicide prevention awareness training for school staff. The training emphasizes the critical, but limited, role of teachers and ancillary staff at school. This offering is appropriate for school-based professionals who provide staff development, mental health consulting, and training to school personnel.

    31. Collegial Circle for Elementary Math Leaders

    The goal of this collegial circle of elementary math teachers/leaders is to address the challenges and issues inherent in teaching and learning mathematics. The collegial circle will provide a forum for members to be informed and stimulated around elementary mathematics, and agendas for the meetings will be participant driven.

    32. Collegial Circle for Science Leaders

    Through this collegial circle, regional science leaders will continue to build a network as they delve into the P -12 New York State Science learning standards, have a forum for sharing ideas, resources, problems of practice, and pressing issues. The meeting agendas will be participant-driven and important to science education. This year, there will be a focus on unpacking, understanding, and planning for the adopted New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS). There will also be continued updates on the NYSSLS as we receive them from the New York State Education Department.

    33. Collegial Circle for Secondary Mathematics Leaders

    Through this collegial circle, members will have the opportunity to share issues, discuss concerns, hear how different schools and districts approach a variety of issues, and provide feedback to their peers on happenings in their districts. The agendas are member driven, shaped around elements of curriculum and instruction, current trends and issues, and enduring questions. Additionally, members seek advice and pose solutions with their colleagues from around the region.

    34. Collegial Circle for Elementary ELA Leaders

    Through this collegial circle, regional literacy leaders will have the opportunity to learn, share, and grow around topics of interest and importance. Participants will have a forum for sharing resources and ideas, a network for continuing conversation, and an opportunity for learning between sessions. Sessions will include talks around relevant topics selected by participants, learning around an article or text, and sharing of practices around the region. Past topics have included Tier 1 instruction, culturally relevant texts, assessment practices, the science of reading, curriculum adoption and implementation, and resources for teaching reading and writing.

    35. Collegial Circle for Health Educators

    This collegial circle will focus on how health educators are in a unique position to have a profound impact on their students, colleagues, school culture, and community. As more school districts are focusing on social emotional learning, health educators can and should be seen and utilized as experts in this field. Participants will collaborate on lessons, share ideas and opinions about the current health curriculum, and imagine and plan for how their role can be expanded within their school, district, and community. The group will select topics that are timely and relevant. Group members will share concerns and challenges and problem-solve together.

    36. Collegial Circle for Special Classroom Setting

    This collegial circle is designed for special educators/providers working in specialized programs such as life skills, social-emotional learning (SEL), and alternative instructional settings. It offers a collaborative space to explore relevant topics, share experiences, and strengthen practice. Focus areas can include examining updated instructional practices, behavioral supports, assistive technology, mental health, transition planning, and updates to NYS special education guidelines. Sessions will also address supporting ENL students with disabilities, collaborating with families, and integrating emerging tools like AI. The circle begins with goal setting and identifying group priorities. Discussions are responsive to participant needs and promote reflection, resource sharing, and professional growth-while also fostering meaningful connections among peers doing similar work.

    37. SCI21 HS Investigation Preparation - Chemistry (Fall1)

    This day and a half in-person session is intended to help schools prepare for the science investigations that students must complete for the HS assessment.

    Participants will be given an opportunity to practice the "hands-on” portion of the assessment. The learning facilitator will review all Teacher Materials, Rubrics, Student Directions, Student Answer Packets, and supplemental Investigation resources. Facilitators will address questions about all aspects of the student task.

    Since the investigation tasks are considered secured items by the NYSED Office of State Assessment, we have been advised that we cannot distribute the investigations to workshop participants. PLEASE BRING A COPY OF THE INVESTIGATIONS WITH YOU.

    This course provides participants with an overview of the Wilson Reading System (WRS) and serves as the prerequisite for WRS Level I Certification Training.

    This course examines the intensive intervention reading instruction necessary for students in grade two and above with persistent and significant phonological-coding deficits. Participants will learn about dyslexia (indicators, misconceptions, neurobiological aspects, and prevalence), typical versus atypical reading acquisition, appropriate student identification and placement, and key components and principles of instruction, including the factors necessary for high-quality program implementation.

    How to teach phonology (including phonemic awareness), morphology, and orthography in an integrated, explicit, systematic, and multisensory way is demonstrated and practiced during the course.     Naloxone (Brand name Narcan) is an intranasal medication that can be used to reverse opioid overdose. Last year in the US, there were nearly 108,000 opioid overdose deaths, many of which were caused by powerful synthetic opioids like Fentanyl. These statistics represent a vast increase in overdose deaths from previous years. Using naloxone and other evidence-based prevention and harm reduction strategies, we as a community can help reduce overdose deaths. This FREE training will teach you how to recognize opioid overdose, and how to administer naloxone. All participants will receive a free opioid overdose rescue kit including naloxone.

    This training offers an overview of Section 504, emphasizing the legal and ethical responsibilities of schools, the process for determining student eligibility, and strategies for developing and implementing effective accommodations. The training will also highlight how to advocate for accommodations that uphold the dignity and worth of students with disabilities. This workshop will provide participants with alternatives to anger and methods to channel feelings appropriately.     This professional learning workshop series is a collaboration between the PNWBOCES School Library System and the Hudson Valley Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network (HV RBERN). It is designed to promote teamwork between ENL teachers and School Librarians from the same school or district. School Librarians and ENL teachers should register to attend together as a team for all sessions.


    Participants will collaborate to develop an event or initiative for ELLs that includes literacy components and recognition of student achievements. Participants will be provided with strategies and support to develop a strong foundation for a successful partnership.


    Session 1 Newcomers to the series - October 16, 8:30 am - 2:30 pm (5.5 hrs): The morning session will include introductory presentations and activities designed to give participants a better understanding of each other's roles, as well as strategies to develop a successful partnership. The afternoon session will include highlights of recent Dynamic Duo events, a discussion of funding and family engagement resources, and prep time to begin collaborative work.

There will also be a time to share concerns and challenges and come together to problem solve in order to make our gymnasiums/classrooms the best it can be for our students and for our profession. At our first PE Collegial Circle you will get to experience firsthand a unit that I do at my school called Drumming for Fitness, which is a cardiovascular endurance unit that combines drumming, rhythm, and music.     81. Phonological Awareness: Establishing the Foundations for Reading Success

    The purpose of this 2-day training is to help participants gain a greater understanding of the Science of Reading; specifically, what phonological awareness is and how crucial this skillset is to the foundation of reading success. Participants will explore what phonological awareness skills to teach, when to teach them, and how to teach these skills for students to master phonological awareness. The training will also provide context for the importance of using assessments to improve effectiveness of phonological awareness instruction for students.

    To overcome equity barriers, educators need to focus on systematic, explicit instruction to teach the skills supported by the science of reading. This training is one within a series on effective reading instruction. Recommended trainings within this series include Foundations of Effective Reading Instruction: Understanding the Science of Reading, Phonics & Word Recognition: Establishing the Foundations for Reading Success, Explicit Vocabulary Instruction for Teachers, Explicit Instruction: An Evidence-Based Practice for Effective and Long-Term Learning, and Reviewing Your Literacy Curriculum: Evaluating Alignment with the Science of Reading.     83. State Performance Plan (SPP) Indicator 13: Secondary Transition

    Audience: Special education administrators, chairpersons, and/or special education teachers from districts who will be undergoing the Indicator 13 review in the 2026-2027 school year.

    Special Education Quality Assurance (SEQA) conducts the State Performance Plan (SPP) 13: Secondary Transition compliance review in the Fall of the school year a district is scheduled for monitoring of SPP Indicator 13 (in accordance with the six-year monitoring cycle). The purpose of this training is to review key concepts of this compliance review to ensure districts are developing individualized education programs (IEPs) for students aged 15 and over that meet SPP Indicator 13 compliance requirements. Districts are required to complete this training the school year prior to undergoing review. This training is focused on meeting compliance for SPP Indicator 13. The required district staff to attend this training is the CSE Chairperson for secondary students. Special education administrators and/or special education teachers from districts are also welcome to complete this training.

    Districts may also attend this virtual training on September 30, 2025.

    It is highly encouraged, but not required, for districts preparing for their Indicator 13 review to send staff to additional trainings on transition in the IEP.     84. SCI21 ELS Investigation Preparation - LIGHT IT UP! (Fall1)

    This 2-hour in-person session is to help schools prepare for one of the science investigations that students must complete for the ELS assessment.

    Participants will be given an opportunity to practice the "hands-on” portion of the assessment. The learning facilitator will review all Teacher Materials, Rubrics, Student Directions, Student Answer Packets, and supplemental Investigation resources. Facilitators will address questions about all aspects of the student task. Alignment to the Science 21 curriculum will be briefly reviewed.

    Since the investigation tasks are considered secured items by the NYSED Office of State Assessment, we have been advised that we cannot distribute the investigations to workshop participants. PLEASE BRING A COPY OF THE INVESTIGATION WITH YOU.

    85. Collegial Circle for Social Emotional Learning

    Program: Curriculum Center

    This collegial circle is designed for educators, clinicians, and administrators who are actively engaged in Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and wish to deepen their practice through collaborative learning. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with colleagues from various educational settings, sharing experiences and insights to strengthen SEL implementation in their schools and districts. Throughout the year, members will drive the agenda, focusing on topics such as SEL program development, case studies from schools and districts, and the latest research and best practices in SEL strategies. Regular meetings will provide a platform for discussion, peer learning, and professional growth in a supportive, collegial environment. Schools and districts are encouraged to send one or more team members to participate in these sessions, which offer a chance to enhance SEL initiatives, learn from fellow practitioners, and apply new knowledge to support student well-being and success.

    ** Pre-Requisite- Initial Threat Assessment Team Workshop (Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines Training)** This training, provided in partnership with the FBI, is meant for established Threat Assessment triage teams using an evidenced-based model, such as the CSTAG. This training will review current best practices, highlight concerning behaviors, and involvement of county Threat Assessment Management teams, culminating with tabletop exercises involving local and regional case studies along with lessons learned.

    88. Habits of Mind Across the Elementary Math Curriculum

    Program: Curriculum Center

    This course is designed to help elementary educators integrate mathematical habits of mind into their daily instruction to build strong foundations for mathematical thinking. Habits of mind-such as perseverance, making sense of problems, reasoning logically, recognizing patterns, and communicating precisely-are essential for developing young learners into confident, capable problem solvers. Participants will explore how these habits support student learning across all strands of the elementary math curriculum, including number sense, operations, geometry, measurement, and data. Through engaging activities, collaborative discussions, and analysis of classroom examples, educators will learn practical strategies for nurturing these habits in developmentally appropriate ways. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to create math learning experiences that go beyond rote procedures, encouraging students to think flexibly, explore multiple strategies, and develop a lifelong positive relationship with mathematics.

    89. Artful Thinking: Igniting Learning Across the Curriculum

The Magazzino Italian Art Museum, in partnership with PNW BOCES, invites K-12 educators to a free, hands-on professional development workshop that explores how the arts can transform teaching across disciplines. Held at Magazzino's beautiful Education Center in the Hudson Valley, the workshop blends gallery exploration, studio art-making, collaborative lesson planning, and lively discussion. Educators will engage with Magazzino's renowned collection of postwar and contemporary Italian art while discovering strategies like object-based learning (OBL) and content-and-language integrated learning (CLIL), all aligned with New York State Standards. Participants will leave with ready-to-use resources and fresh ideas for immediate application.

    91. Play Therapy in Schools: Engaging, Assessing, and Supporting Children Through Play

    Program: Guidance & Child Study Center

    This three-part workshop series is designed for school-based clinicians (social workers, psychologists, and guidance counselors) who currently support children through play-based counseling or those who are interested incorporating this practice into their work with student groups.

    Participants will explore foundational play therapy techniques including rituals, role play, and cognitive behavioral play, and learn how to use toys and games to build connections, address trauma, and support group and family work.

    The series will address clinical issues including: anxiety, ADHD, anger, depression, school avoidance, and suicidal ideation, with developmentally appropriate tools to assess and intervene. Session strategies will include directive and non-directive approaches, labeled praise, selective attention, mindfulness integration, and CBT-based interventions.

  • 96. Living History: Commemorating, Remembering and Honoring the Generation who Fought the American Revolution

    Program: The Hudson River Teacher Center

    Audience: All educators, administrators and school staff

    The American Revolution ended in 1783 and the desire to honor and commemorate the generation that achieved American Independence started that same year. The concept of the Society of the Cincinnati was that of Major General Henry Knox. The first meeting of the Society was held in May 1783 at a dinner at the Verplanck House (present-day Mount Gulian), Fishkill, New York, before the British evacuation from New York City.

    This course will consist of a Zoom Meeting with multimedia presentation about the history of the American Revolution and the order of Cincinnatus. This course will also consist of a site visitation at Mount Gulian. Participants will be responsible for all travel costs and meals.

    Participants will be able to:

  • Identify the reasons why the Hudson Rover was so important to the American war effort in the War of Independence.
  • Discuss the impact of the American Revolution on Hudson Valley communities
  • Summarize the events that took place during Burgoyne's Saratoga Campaign in 1777

    This is a 4-Part Series with an optional Tech Assistance Session. Participants in this series will be part of a think tank with like-minded educators.     99. Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM): Best Practices for a Defensible Process

    This workshop will discuss how to make your school/district's BTAM process more legally defensible. The most current research and recommendations will be discussed with an emphasis on the critical importance of establishing multi-disciplinary threat assessment teams and how to address the systemic barriers that complicate information sharing, documentation, and follow-up planning and supports. The importance of addressing bias, equity, and disproportionality within the BTAM process will also be explained. Knowledge gained in serving as an expert witness in court cases involving threat assessment, targeted violence and suicidal ideation will be highlighted. Specific recommendations for improving the fidelity of implementation of best practice threat assessment protocols will also be provided. Workshop participants will learn how to build a high-quality behavioral threat assessment and management program utilizing best practice strategies to build a legally defensible process. They will also learn to understand how to conduct a threat assessment using strategies that increase equity while decreasing bias and disproportionality, learn the clear distinction, yet complementary aspects, between threat assessment and suicide risk assessment. Participants will be provided best practice guidance regarding parent permission vs notification, information sharing, discipline, and change in programming and/or placement decision and recommendations for improving the fidelity of implementation of the BTAM process

    101. LETRS Volume 2 (COHORT A) Bedford ONLY

    Program: Curriculum Center Literacy

    Audience: Educators of reading, spelling, and related language skills, general and education teachers, reading teachers, interventionists, literacy leaders

    LETRS is an empowering professional learning course for instructors of reading, spelling, and related language skills. LETRS provides educators with the background, depth of knowledge, and tools to teach language and literacy to every student. LETRS can be used regardless of the literacy program in use. Educators in this program will benefit from:
  • Understanding the content and methodology of research-based, explicit, structured literacy instruction
  • Deep knowledge of the cognitive and language factors that shape student learning and of pedagogical detail
  • Information about how to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students

    The focus of Volume 2 is language comprehension. Topics addressed include:
  • Oral Language and Vocabulary
  • Understanding Reading Comprehension
  • Text-Driven Comprehension Instruction
  • The Reading-Writing Connection

    **Participation in Volume 2 includes:
  • Four, full-day, synchronous workshops
  • 32-41 hours of asynchronous online coursework and reading
  • 12-16 hours of Bridge to Practice activities (application in a classroom)

    Participants MUST have completed LETRS Volume 1 BEFORE registering for LETRS Volume 2. Registration includes participation in the four workshops, a Volume 2 manual, and a one-year subscription to the LETRS Suite. The LETRS Suite is where online coursework and reading will be completed.
