This three-part workshop series is designed for school-based clinicians (social workers, psychologists, and guidance counselors) who currently support children through play-based counseling or those who are interested incorporating this practice into their work with student groups.
Participants will explore foundational play therapy techniques including rituals, role play, and cognitive behavioral play, and learn how to use toys and games to build connections, address trauma, and support group and family work.
The series will address clinical issues including: anxiety, ADHD, anger, depression, school avoidance, and suicidal ideation, with developmentally appropriate tools to assess and intervene. Session strategies will include directive and non-directive approaches, labeled praise, selective attention, mindfulness integration, and CBT-based interventions.
Participants will leave with practical tools to enhance emotional regulation, resilience, friendship-building, and overall student wellbeing. Association for Play Therapy 6 CEs will be offered to clinical staff. For more information on credential see www.a4pt.org.
