7. Unlocking Potential: Supporting Students with Complex Needs

Program: ESC of Central Ohio Student Services

Strengthen your expertise in supporting school‑age students with low‑incidence disabilities and school‑based medical needs. This learning experience offers a practical, inside look at how to create high-quality instructional environments for students with complex needs.

Participants will engage in interactive sessions, including virtual classroom tours led by experienced professionals, in order to further understanding of low incidence disabilities in addition to effective practices and real-world strategies.

To maximize professional learning time, it is recommended that participants pack/bring a lunch.

23. Book Study: Big Ideas of Early Mathematics

This book study explores foundational early childhood mathematics concepts, including number sense, counting, sets, patterns, measurement, shapes, and spatial awareness. Participants will examine how high-quality materials and curriculum-aligned practices support young children's mathematical thinking through play, exploration, and intentional instruction. Through discussion and reflection, educators will strengthen effective math teaching practices that promote problem-solving, conceptual understanding, and confidence in young learners. This session prepares preschool administrators to design and implement an internal special education monitoring process designed to increase compliant Evaluation Team Reports (ETRs) and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Participants will establish a team-based review process using structured protocols that promote accuracy, consistency, and accountability. The session emphasizes use to DCY resources and the development of practical tools to strengthen interrater reliability among team members through calibration and shared expectations. Attendees will leave with ready-to-use resources and a clear framework for sustaining a systematic, high-quality compliance monitoring process. *Must attend both sessions. Through reflection and collaboration, participants will identify appropriate tools and practices that are integrated across general and special education to support effective instruction.
