6. LETRS Volume 1: Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling - Cohort 1 - UCM

LETRS provides teachers with the tools and understanding to teach the essential skills needed for literacy. LETRS is NOT a program. Teachers learn the "science of reading” to apply research to classroom applications no matter the curriculum or program used. Aligning instruction with the "science of reading” gives students the best chance of becoming successful readers. Regardless of any textbooks or instructional materials used, if the teacher does not have the knowledge of evidence-based practices and standards, students will not acquire what is needed to learn.

Instruction is a mixture of face-to-face learning sessions through structured modules PLUS four units of online videos including examples of effective classroom instruction. Teachers are expected to apply the information, reflect, and record outcomes.

Participants are expected to attend all the dates of this workshop.

For DESE to purchase materials in time for this training, participants will need to be registered with DESE prior to July 15, 2025 using this link:LETRS® Training for K-5 Educators (2025-26) Participants will receive their manuals and online course access prior to the first session.

Registration will be from 8:30-9:00 am each session, with content beginning at 9:00 am sharp. Lunch will be provided.

7. Southwest Region Teacher Leader Cohort

This is a "by invitation only" program. The SW Regional Teacher Leader Cohort is a multi-district PLC made up of teacher leaders in our region. The group meets once a quarter at the SW RPDC (Agency for Teaching, Leading, and Learning). 15. Assessing Skills of Orientation and Mobility Skills

17. Evidence Based Practices for Students with Severe Behaviors

This workshop will help participants choose and implement interventions proven to be effective for students experiencing severe behaviors. This training will discuss multiple strategies for behavior change, including antecedent interventions (changes to the environment), teaching replacement behaviors, and altering consequences. Participants will gain knowledge in how to match interventions to the four functions driving behavior (sensory, escape, attention and tangible).     Welcome to MLDS NEW LEADERS YEAR 1. The Missouri Leadership Development System provides training and support to new principals and assistant principals through research-based learning experiences. NEW LEADERS YEAR 1 and their mentors will participate in five regional meetings that provide practical knowledge, skills, along with networking opportunities for building administrators. One of the meetings includes a coaching lab that provides hands-on, practical experiences for leaders to improve their skills in developing and growing teachers. The Missouri Leadership Development System (MLDS) is an important component to support the effort of all buildings.

    The NEW LEADERS YEAR 1 level is the initial phase of MLDS support and is designed for first year principals and assistant principals. Principals will be guided by an established mentor during this year of learning. Participation in both Year 1 and Year 2 completes DESE requirements for new administrator mentoring.

    As a member of this year-long academy, your learning will be focused on Missouri Leadership Development System competencies for the developing leader.     Missouri Leadership Academy:

    What is the purpose of a proficiency scale? A clear learning target provides students with what they should know, but it does not provide guidance regarding the building blocks necessary to attain the goal. Proficiency scales articulate learning progressions for each prioritized standard. Well-articulated sequence of knowledge and skills makes it much easier to provide students with feedback.

    Once proficiency scales have been created, how do you use them to assess a student's level of proficiency? We will explore different assessment methods, look at sample assessment questions that align to scales, and have the opportunity to generate summative scores.

    In this full-day professional learning session designed for third through fifth grade teachers, participants will explore the Five Fundamentals of Fact Fluency with an upper-elementary lens and learn how to move students from foundational facts (the "must-know” anchors) to efficient derived fact strategies that build accuracy, flexibility, and automaticity. Participants will experience classroom-ready routines that develop fluency through conceptual understanding, visual reasoning, and purposeful practice, using models that make strategies stick-such as arrays and area models, and number lines.

    Throughout the day, we'll explore and practice engaging, research-based fluency routines and games that support all learners and strengthen number sense-while keeping instruction aligned to what students need to become accurate, efficient, and flexible with multiplication and division facts through strategy-based instruction. Teachers will leave with a ready-to-use set of grades 3-5 routines and games and a practical implementation plan for supporting fact fluency in their grade level-including daily routine ideas, strategy progressions, and ways to monitor, notice, and celebrate student growth.

    This in-depth training looks into the science of reading research for teaching vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing.     69. Creating Intensive ABA Based Verbal Behavior Programs for Students with ASD and Other Language/Learning Challenges (Bootcamp) - 3 day training

    This intensive 3-day training will provide participants the opportunity to learn skills necessary to design and implement evidence-based programs for students with autism and other developmental disorders which are grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis and emphasize the acquisition of verbal behavior (language) repertoires. Concepts covered will include basic principles of ABA, errorless teaching and error correction procedures, the verbal operants, data collection, and programming based on verbal behavior assessments. Participants will also learn the critical importance of teaching students how to ask (mand) for what they want/need and how to incorporate mand training into their students' programs. Participants will be required to complete written pre/post-tests, demonstrate teaching procedures, accurately complete data collection procedures, as well as define ABA terms. This training is modeled after training provided as part of Pennsylvania's PaTTAN Autism Initiative.

    Stacey earned her B.S. in Elementary and Special Education from William Woods College and a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Webster University and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Her teaching credentials include regular education grades 1-8 and special education K-12. In May 2015, Stacey retired from the Lee's Summit School District after 30 years. Stacey is employed by Summit Behavioral Services and provides training on Applied Behavior Analysis and intensive verbal behavior programming to teachers and support staff from across the midwest. Stacey has presented at many state level conferences as well as giving the closing keynote address at the 2015 National Autism Conference at Penn State University.

    What is the purpose of a proficiency scale? A clear learning target provides students with what they should know, but it does not provide guidance regarding the building blocks necessary to attain the goal. Proficiency scales articulate learning progressions for each prioritized standard. Well-articulated sequence of knowledge and skills makes it much easier to provide students with feedback.

    Once proficiency scales have been created, how do you use them to assess a student's level of proficiency? We will explore different assessment methods, look at sample assessment questions that align to scales, and have the opportunity to generate summative scores.
