1. PREPaRE Core Workshop 2 (WS2) Mental Health Crisis Interventions: Responding to an Acute Traumatic Stressor in Schools

Program: Early Childhood & Student Services (ECSS)

Audience: Workshop 2- Mental Health Crisis Interventions: Responding to an Acute Traumatic Stressor in Schools is for individuals who are school mental health professionals, including school psychologists, school counselors, school social workers, as well as behavior specialists, nurses, and local community mental health providers. Individuals should attend as part of a school or LEA team.

The PREPaRE curriculum is a two-part training developed by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) that addresses both crisis prevention and response. Dependent upon an individual's role in the school/ LEA team, they may attend only one or both workshops. The PREPaRE Workshops are designed to be completed by school teams. PREPaRE Workshops provide a framework for schools or LEAS that require administrative support and a team approach to contextualize to their setting and implement with a team approach. PREPARE Core Workshop 2 (WS2) Mental Health Crisis Interventions: Responding to an Acute Traumatic Stressor in Schools is a two-day training focused on mental health intervention and recovery following any type of crisis. Participants will: 1. Report reduced anxiety and fear associated with the provision of school mental health crisis interventions; 2. Report increased knowledge and confidence associated with the provision of school mental health crisis interventions; 3. Identify variables that help to estimate the number of individuals traumatized by a crisis; 4. Recognize the difference between common crisis reactions and mental illness; 5. Identify the elements of school crisis preparedness specified by the PREPaRE acronym; 6. Recognize risk factors that predict psychological trauma; 7. Identify the warning signs that indicate psychological trauma; 8. Place PREPaRE mental health crisis interventions on a multitiered continuum ranging from least to most restrictive; and 9. Match the degree of psychological trauma risk to the appropriate school crisis interventions.

4. PBIS Tier 1 - Day 1 | Overview

This module aims to build the capacity of participants to serve on a Tier 1 Team by 1) providing definitions and components of SWPBIS and 2) positioning teams to engage in effective teaming and action planning with the use of fidelity tools. This module also ensures that all team members develop an in-depth understanding of the importance of establishing school-wide behavioral expectations. In addition to establishing positively stated expectations, this module will require team members to create a behavior matrix that defines the stated behavioral expectations across all settings of the school community. Team members will also work together to generate a plan for obtaining staff and student feedback on the expectations and matrix. This training is only open to invited teams and a building administrator is required to attend each session. All participants must sign up for all 3 days of PBIS training. Convey the evidence-based benefits of installing and implementing SWPBIS. Provide definitions, common language, and structures relevant to a SWPBIS that will encourage cohesive teaming. Identify team roles and responsibilities Introduce the team to a problem-solving cycle and fidelity tools. Acquire an understanding of the importance of behavioral expectations. 5. School Attendance Training Session - Winter 2026

The purpose of this session is to provide school personnel who are new to the school attendance process (or would like a refresher) a basic understanding of the Pa Compulsory Attendance Law, the PDE BEC and the process that needs to be followed especially in Berks County and the resources available for assistance. The workshop will include information about holding a School Attendance Improvement Conference and completing the School Attendance Improvement Plan. The Berks County Protocol and the Advancing School Attendance Program will be reviewed.

Target Audience: Assistant Principals, Attendance Secretaries, School Social Workers, Home School Visitors, and anyone else with a primary responsibility for attendance letters, Student Attendance Improvement Conferences, referrals to ASAP and/or citations.

This three-day training series will provide training in evidence based practices as they relate to applied behavior analytic interventions. This series will focus on skills related to teaching students with autism and related developmental disorders. The series includes a brief overview of guidelines for the student assessment tool, the VB-MAPP, and how to derive student programs based on the assessment outcomes.

Attendance for all three days is required, as each training builds upon the previously taught skills. It is STRONGLY encouraged that classroom teams attend this training series together.

Participants will develop an understanding of and/or demonstrate the following skills:

- Identification of the verbal operants and other concepts

- Create a structured classroom schedule

- Create card sort systems for teaching

As the number of students using augmentative/alternative communication (AAC) systems continues to increase, implementation of these customized systems becomes more challenging. This full-day workshop will provide educators and administrators with ideas of "what to do next” when a student is beginning his or her journey with a dedicated system or is an established AAC system user. This workshop is designed as a team approach to implementing a communication system. According to the International Journal for Environmental Research and Public Health, "Individuals with severe intellectual disabilities exhibited the highest prevalence of sexual abuse at 67%, followed by those with moderate (34.3%) and mild (24.3%) disabilities. Through this training, participants will: -Identify high-priority functional skills related to the reduced risk of sexual assault. -Identify instruction and support models and resources. -Identify community partners and resources. The day will feature a panel of local experts, as well as support for action planning and networking for both first-time attendees and returning participants seeking to advance their background knowledge and practice.

This tabletop exercise, designed for school crisis teams, focuses on applying the essential components of the PREPaRE Model for Mental Health Crisis Intervention. The session will review the multitiered approach to school-based crisis interventions and supports, while also introducing the School-Based Mental Health Crisis Go-Kit. Participants will examine critical tools and protocols and practice applying them within their district's existing systems. Interactive scenarios will further support skill development by allowing teams to rehearse decision-making, communication, and coordination. It is recommended that participants complete PREPaRE 2 training prior to attending this session.

This workshop offers insight into some of the results of 20 years of research into how teachers can transform their classrooms from a space where students mimic to where students think. The practices discussed will intertwine with, and make extensive references to, Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics (Grades K-12): 14 Teaching Practices for Enhancing Learning. Morning: We will focus on the launch, collective knowledge experiences, and consolidation practices while engaging in non-curricular tasks to see where and how these practices fit into a BTC lesson. This two day training is intended to prepare staff to safely prevent and manage dangerous behavior. Staff learns to intervene professionally and therapeutically using a safe, effective approach designed to prevent or reverse escalation of problem behavior and avoid the use of restraint. Safety Care de-escalation skills work with individuals who can communicate verbally and those who cannot. Safety Care is based on an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) model and focuses on removing/reducing environmental consequences that reinforce problem behavior.

The PREPaRE curriculum is a two-part training developed by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) that addresses both crisis prevention and response. Participants will: 1. Report reduced anxiety and fear associated with the provision of school mental health crisis interventions; 2. Report increased knowledge and confidence associated with the provision of school mental health crisis interventions; 3. Identify variables that help to estimate the number of individuals traumatized by a crisis; 4. Recognize the difference between common crisis reactions and mental illness; 5. Identify the elements of school crisis preparedness specified by the PREPaRE acronym; 6. Recognize risk factors that predict psychological trauma; 7. Identify the warning signs that indicate psychological trauma; 8. Place PREPaRE mental health crisis interventions on a multitiered continuum ranging from least to most restrictive; and 9. Determining appropriate assistive technology can seem like a daunting task best left to the experts, but school teams are the experts in their student's needs. Team participation and responsibility are key factors in effective choice and sustained use of all forms of assistive technology. This training will cover how to use the SETT framework with a school team to gather information in determining if assistive technology is needed to support both academic and communication needs. We will also review how and where information can be included in an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) to document assistive technology. Participants will Identify key staff roles needed for an effective assistive technology SETT meeting/input Identify the components of the SETT Identify sources of information and data for inclusion in a SETT Review sources of information to identify assistive technologies for trial Develop trial procedures and data collection systems to document the process Identify barriers to effective assistive technology implementation Review documentation of assistive technology in the IEP.
