We invite you to join us on Monday, November 24, 2025, for a day of learning and professional discussion on best literacy practices for linguistically diverse learners! This event will be held as a hybrid webinar with in-person discussion and online presentations. New York State administrators and literacy leaders will be presented specific and useful information to understand and address the ontological differences between ELLs, MLs, and monolingual students. Participants in the event will have the opportunity to learn about the briefs with Dr. Socorro Herrera, a professor at the College of Education and the director of the Center for Intercultural and Multilingual Advocacy at Kansas State University. Dr. Herrera's K-12 teaching experience includes an emphasis on literacy development, and her research focuses on literacy opportunities with culturally and linguistically diverse students, reading strategies, and teacher preparation for diversity in the classroom.

The Measurable Annual Goals professional development training package is an in-depth, standalone package focusing on the development of quality annual goals. This training is intended to further develop participants' knowledge of the components of annual goals as well as how annual goals should be developed based on individual student needs. The training will explore using the guidance in the regulations as well as the Guide to Quality IEP Development and Implementation to improve participants ability to develop appropriate goals for students with disabilities. Participants need to bring 1-2 redacted IEPs with them to the training so that they can complete the activities. Participants will be able to:
• Describe the relationship between identified needs in the data-based present levels of performance and prioritized measurable annual goals
• Explain each of the four components of measurable annual goals
