This standard refresher training is for individuals who are currently certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) and are required to receive this annual 3-hour refresher training to maintain certification. *Act 48 hours are provided only for NCI trainings that are held at IU8 Offices.
Due to guidelines established by the Crisis Prevention institute, Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 is only able to train employees of school districts within the IU8 counties of Blair, Bedford, Cambria, and Somerset. - Participants must arrive on time, actively participate, stay for the entire session (no exceptions) & pass the written test. - Successfully demonstrate intervention skills - Certification may be withheld if the participant misses more than 10 minutes of instruction. 5. 2025 Professional Learning Institute (IU8 Employees Only)

The 2025 IU8 Professional Learning Institute will be held on August 6 & 7, 2025, from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm at the Blair County Convention Center at One Convention Center Drive, Altoona, PA. Registration begins at 8:30 am. Connect with colleagues over morning refreshments. Enhancing Core Reading Instruction (ECRI) within Tiered Systems (K-2): This course will present information and research about evidence-based reading instruction, and describe and model how to use instructional routines to enhance the delivery of core reading instruction in a multi-tiered system of Tier 1 and Tier 2 support. Must have the ECRI Teacher Workbook to attend. All training times are from 8:00am to 3:30pm.

7. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention: Initial Training

Program: Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI)

Dates: 8/11/2025 to 8/12/2025

This initial training is for individuals who have never been certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) or have allowed their certification to lapse beyond the expiration date shown on their most currently issued Blue Card(tm) (the card would have been provided at their last NCI Training). The training emphasizes early (verbal) intervention strategies for preventing and/or managing disruptive behavior. Disengagement and holding skills are also taught as a means to help manage safety. Transport techniques are included as well. After receiving this certification, the annual 3-hour Foundations of NCI Refresher Training is required to maintain certification. *Act 48 hours are provided only for NCI trainings that are held at IU8 Offices. Systematic strategies and instructional routines designed to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of vocabulary and comprehension instruction in K-2 will be described and practiced. Must have the ECRI Teacher Workbook to attend. All training times are from 8:00am to 3:30pm.

9. ECRI Data and Tier2 Training

Program: Training & Consultation / Special Education

Dates: 8/14/2025

During this one-day workshop, participants who have already received the ECRI Foundational Skills Training will dive deeper into Lesson Mastery Data Collection and how this data can be used at Tier 1 and Tier 2. Additionally, participants will spend time exploring how ECRI Routines and Overlays can be used at Tier 2 through the Preteach Model and Fast-Track Reteach Model. Must have the ECRI Teacher Workbook to attend. Training time will be from 8:30am-3:00pm.

13. Gifted Boot Camp

Dates: 9/17/2025 to 10/1/2025

Are you new to Chapter 16 and Gifted Education in Pennsylvania or would you like a "refresher"? Please join this growing community from IU8 for discussions, information sharing, and resources that build key knowledge and confidence in the area of gifted education. Through these sessions, we will review Chapter 16 and spend time writing GIEP's including present levels, goals, short-term learning objectives, and SDI's. You must attend both day of this training. Cost is $50.00 for both days. PAYMENT OPTIONS Payment options include self-pay through PayPal or "Bill My District.” All self-payments must be made before the event. If self-payment is not received before the event, registrants must pay via PayPal upon arrival. If payment cannot be established before or upon arrival, you will not be permitted to attend the event. CANCELLATION TERMS We understand that plans change. If you need to cancel your registration, you may do so in the Frontline Registration system or by contacting the event's point of contact up to five (5) business days before the event for a full refund. Unfortunately, cancellations made within five (5) business days of the event date are non-refundable. If you do not attend and have not canceled in advance, you/your district will still be billed for payment. Extenuating circumstances will be considered. ACT 48 CREDIT REQUIREMENTS To receive Act 48 credits for this training, registrants must complete the evaluation in Frontline within five (5) days after the training date(s). Failure to complete the evaluation in the Frontline system within this timeframe may result in no Act 48 credit hours being awarded.

16. ECRI Foundational Skills Training

Program: Training & Consultation / Special Education

Dates: 10/6/2025 to 10/7/2025

Strengthening Your School's Instructional Foundation: A Leader's Guide to Success for All Students is a 50-hour course designed for school and district administrators to deepen their understanding of Tier 1 evidence-based practices within the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. The course focuses on how to implement effective Tier 1 instruction, grounded in evidence-based practices to meet all students' learning needs. Participants will complete 10 hours of prework, 30 hours of in-person coursework, and 10 hours of job-embedded practice that will be presented through an Action Plan. The Action Plans will illustrate how administrators plan to apply their learnings, train their staff, and implement and sustain Tier 1 evidence-based practices in their schools through MTSS. You are required to attend all of the trainings when you register. This is an Act 45 course, and your school district will be invoiced upon registration. Cost is $195 and this includes resources for the course and lunch.

19. Youth Mental Health First Aid

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among children and adolescents ages 12-18. This blended course requires 2 hours of pre-course work to be completed online prior to the in-person session.

32. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention: Initial Training

Program: Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI)

Dates: 4/1/2026 to 4/2/2026

This initial training is for individuals who have never been certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) or have allowed their certification to lapse beyond the expiration date shown on their most currently issued Blue Card(tm) (the card would have been provided at their last NCI Training). The training emphasizes early (verbal) intervention strategies for preventing and/or managing disruptive behavior. Disengagement and holding skills are also taught as a means to help manage safety. Transport techniques are included as well. After receiving this certification, the annual 3-hour Foundations of NCI Refresher Training is required to maintain certification. *Act 48 hours are provided only for NCI trainings that are held at IU8 Offices.
