1. Guest Teacher Asynchronous Course 25/26

Program: Educational Services - Professional Development

Audience: Individuals who are interested in becoming a certified guest teacher who have at least a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and have obtained Act 34, Act 151 and act 114 Clearances.

This asynchronous course is designed for individuals who would like to serve as a guest teacher in the schools and districts within the Capital Area Intermediate Unit catchment. The course includes seven modules that cover the topics of professionalism, lesson planning, classroom instruction, legal aspects, special education, positive behavior management, and active engagement strategies. Participants will be able to view videos, read articles and then take time to reflect on the information covered in each module. We will engage in meaningful conversations, exchange resources and innovative ideas, and collaborate to address the real-world challenges we face in our schools. Whether you're a classroom teacher, an administrator, a support staff member, or a PBIS team leader, this is a unique opportunity to be a "thought partner" with your peers. Only Act 48 hours are available for this CoP at this time.

Objectives:

Share best practices and resources: The exchange of effective strategies, tools, and resources for implementing equitable PBIS frameworks. This includes practical ideas for classroom management, school-wide systems, and data-driven decision-making.

- Address problems of practice: Provide a forum for participants to bring real-world challenges they are facing and collectively problem-solve. Participants are encouraged to act as "thought partners" where attendees can offer insights, different perspectives, and potential solutions.

Strengthen school-wide implementation: Motivate and empower school teams to work together to improve the fidelity and effectiveness of their PBIS systems, ensuring they are culturally responsive and address the needs of diverse student populations.

8. Know Better, Do Better: Addressing Exceptional Needs in Literacy Series

Join the CAIU for a 3-session virtual series devoted to addressing students with exceptional needs. Learn the various profiles of a reader, how to make instructional adaptations for students with ADHD, and how to meet the instructional needs of students with an intellectual disability or who are deaf/ hard of hearing. Sessions will occur on Sept 26, Oct 24, and Nov 21 from 8:00-8:30 AM on Zoom. Zoom registration for link access will be emailed to the email address used during registration on Frontline. This professional learning experience helps teachers understand the development of oral language, print knowledge, alphabet learning, and writing skills. The training provides the "why” and "how” of early literacy instruction across all domains: language, literacy, cognitive, motor, social, and emotional. People with developmental disabilities are often left out of the conversation about sexuality, almost as if they are incapable of having thoughts, feelings, and needs. In reality, they, too, are sexual beings who need information and skills for making healthy decisions about sexuality. As someone who works with people with developmental disabilities, you may be the most likely person they may approach with questions about sexuality. This training will help professionals become more comfortable talking about this sensitive topic by discussing what needs to be taught when. It will also review how to help people with developmental disabilities have safe and satisfying relationships. Headphones and a private space are recommended for these virtual sessions. 24. Understanding and Designing Assessments for STEELS Performance Expectations

How can we assess phenomenon- and problem-based science learning using high-quality, rigorous STEELS-based assessments? This is a two-day training with a week between each day. You will have a small homework assignment between the two dates! This is not a ‘train the trainer' workshop, but participants will receive copies of the materials which can be adapted for presentation within their LEAs. The Science of how we uniquely feel, interoception, is an important sensory system that helps us to experience internal body signals like an empty stomach, tense muscles, a full bladder, or a racing heart. Research indicates that these internal body signals provide valuable clues to how we feel and what our body uniquely needs for regulation and health. Many students experience differences in interoception, which can impact their self-regulation, mental health, behavior, and ability to engage in the learning environment. This session will provide an overview of what the latest research tells us about interoception, followed by a discussion surrounding factors that can often derail interoception learning. The session will conclude with several practical strategies that can be used to foster interoception growth in students with varying ages, communication styles, and learning profiles. Learning Objectives: After participating in this session, learners will be able to: Generate a description of interoception that can be used with students and/or their families. Identify at least 2 factors that can derail interoception learning.
