1. Asynchronous: Diving into Digital Tools for Art and Music Educators *Fall 2025*

Program: Arts in Education

Audience: K-12 Art and Music Educators

Dates: 12/8/2025 to 1/12/2026

In this 5 week asynchronous course, art and music educators will explore a variety of digital tools that enhance creativity, streamline lesson planning, and engage students in meaningful ways. This asynchronous online learning experience allows you to work at your own pace while discovering how technology can support both visual and performing arts instruction.

Some of the topics we will explore include:

Templates & Design Tools: Build quality resources like music programs, art show posters, award certificates, labels and more!

Video & Media Creation: Learn to create and embed video and media to be used for project demonstrations, tutorials or digital student showcases.

Presentations: Develop visually engaging lessons that thoughtfully organize an entire unit or project.

Regardless of which grade or fine art area you teach, this professional development will equip you with practical strategies and time to learn them to help you enrich your teaching practice and support student creativity.

2. Hybrid: Form, Function and Fire: Foundations of Clay *Winter 2025*

Program: Arts in Education

Audience: K-12 Art and Music Educators

Dates: 12/8/2025 to 1/12/2026

In this 5 week hybrid course, art teachers will learn functional hand building techniques to scaffold clay projects in their art room. We will cover glazing techniques, material recommendations as well as firing programs and maintaining your kiln. Teachers will need access to their own clay, glazes and kiln to create teachers samples for this hybrid course. We will meet live via Google meet for one hour each week, allowing for live demos, troubleshooting and Q&A, followed by independent work time

Some of the topics we will explore include:

Hand building Techniques: No wheel? No problem! Michele will show you multiple hand building techniques that work with kindergarteners through high school.

Glazing and Finishing Methods: Explore a variety of finishing options suitable for different budgets and supplies.

Firing: Never fire a kiln before? We will walk you through step by step low fire bisque and glaze firings.

Storage, Safety and Supplies While our projects dry and get fired, we will review and establish storage routines and safety guidelines for your art room. We will also review clay, tools, glaze and equipment.

Regardless of which grade or fine art area you teach, this professional development will equip you with practical strategies and time to learn them to help you enrich your teaching practice and support student creativity.

3. Asynchronous: Digital Drawings *Winter 2026*

Program: Arts in Education

Audience: K-12 Art and Music Educators

Dates: 1/19/2026 to 2/23/2026

In this 5 week asynchronous course, we will explore the delightful world of digital drawing! No need for Photoshop or expensive subscriptions-your students can dive into virtual art using free platforms and a Chromebook, laptop, or iPad!

Join me in this asynchronous course as we explore digital art projects, ranging from beginner to intermediate, with options for single-day or multi-day activities. While the course is self-paced, I'll be available during virtual office hours to offer support as needed. The dates listed below indicate the course duration, not scheduled meetings. The virtual office hours will be announced once the course begins!

4. IAAP - Planning for Year 1 & 2 with the Individualized Arts Assessment Pathway- Meeting 2

Audience: K-12 Art and Music Teachers, Counselors and Administration

Join us as we continue to navigate the steps of implementing the IAAP in your district. This workshop will create an outline for year one and two of the IAAP. You do not need to be actively participating in IAAP to join us, we are creating the plan for the upcoming years. During this workshop we will:

  • Align your district's programs with NYS Learning Standards for the Arts
  • Adjust and create program pathways for art and music students
  • Review modes of collecting and storing student artworks and evidence.

    It is recommended that districts:

  • Send representatives from both the art and music departments to help in the decision making process.

  • 5. Methods, Materials and Making: Huichol Workshop at LaCasita Cultural Center

    Program: Arts in Education

    Audience: K-12 Art Educators

    Dates: 2/3/2026

    Join us at La Casita Cultural Center to create Huichol Art. Participants will create imagery using yarn, a traditional art form of indigenous peoples of Mexico in the Jalisco and Nayarit regions. Participants will be given a simple template and discuss the significance of the art style and practice. All materials are included, the hands-on workshop begins at 12:30pm and ends at 2pm, with time after for questions and lesson development. Please arrive before the workshop start time.

    Join us as we continue to navigate the steps of implementing the IAAP in your district. This workshop will create an outline for year THREE of the IAAP. You do not need to be actively participating in IAAP to join us, we are creating the plan for the upcoming years. During this workshop we will:

  • Creating localized assessments based on the NYS Learning Standards for the Arts (including rubrics, self assessment, written reflection)
  • Developing a communication plan for staff, administration, parents and students.
  • Design a process for submitting final portfolios for assessment.

    It is recommended that districts:

  • Send representatives from both the art and music departments to help in the decision making process.

  • 18. Movement Is Music: Dalcroze Strategies for Classroom Teachers
