1. Guest Teacher Asynchronous Course 25/26

Program: Educational Services - Professional Development

Audience: Individuals who are interested in becoming a certified guest teacher who have at least a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and have obtained Act 34, Act 151 and act 114 Clearances.

Dates: 7/1/2025 to 6/30/2026

This asynchronous course is designed for individuals who would like to serve as a guest teacher in the schools and districts within the Capital Area Intermediate Unit catchment. The course includes seven modules that cover the topics of professionalism, lesson planning, classroom instruction, legal aspects, special education, positive behavior management, and active engagement strategies. Participants will be able to view videos, read articles and then take time to reflect on the information covered in each module. 2. CAPT Participant Network Sessions

7. Regional School Psychologist Network Sessions

8. Know Better, Do Better: Multilingual Learners and Literacy

Join the CAIU for a 3-session virtual series devoted to addressing literacy instruction with multilingual students. Sessions will occur on Jan 9, Feb 6, and Mar 6 from 8:00-8:30 AM on Zoom. Sessions will be recorded and shared at the end of the series with registrants.

This course is designed to fulfill the Act 33 requirement for classroom monitors. The course is virtual. Upon the start of the course, one of the instructors will reach out to you with a link to begin coursework. You will have until the end of the month to complete the course.

Upon completion, you will receive directions on how to access your completion certificate. If you plan on applying for the Act 33 certificate and run into any questions in regard to TIMS (which is the system through PDE for submitting the Act 33 application), please feel free to send an email to ra-edcertquestions@pa.gov.

When applying for Act 33, please inform your district that you will be applying through PDE & TIMS. Once your application is completed, you will want to share the Frontline certificate with your HR department. There is a $5 fee for the certification from PDE. Please defer to your district regarding payment. In my experience, most districts require the person applying for the certification to pay the fee.

Central Susquehanna IU 16 will be hosting an informational session for local districts on Pennsylvania's Kindergarten Entry Inventory (KEI). The KEI is a reliable reporting tool available at no cost to schools. The Kindergarten Entry Inventory offers teachers an instructional strategy for understanding and tracking students' proficiency across both cognitive and non-cognitive domains at kindergarten entry. The Kindergarten Entry Inventory is aligned to the Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards and Pennsylvania Core, and therefore, it complements and can help improve existing assessments and teaching practices.

This is a required training for all ATSI designated schools, both current and newly designated. Schools must register a team of 3-6 individuals, including a building principal and teacher leader. Teams are required to attend all dates: 8:30-3:30 on February 24, March 9, and April 30. Teams will learn about the school improvement process, requirements, and planning. Teams will have the opportunity to participate in activities related to school improvement, work through state requirements, and collaborate with team to complete the school plan with guidance from the CAIU School Improvement Facilitators.

Bringing motivation and inspiration to the classroom is not easy. Motivating students is of paramount concern for classroom teachers. This class is intended to not only motivate students but also to inspire the teacher! The course will provide the needed stimulating tools for pre-K to 12 educators to create classrooms in which students are motivated and inspired to learn. A comprehensive understanding of students' needs and the nature of motivation from recognized experts in the field will be presented.

The modules in the class will provide much variety through analyzing videos, power-points, readings, applying strategies, responding to participants and motivational techniques along with materials to develop that produce desired results. With these practical resources, you'll discover a results-driven framework based on student needs and goals along with practical applications of the concepts through employing effective strategies and materials that welcome engagement.

The book, Multiple Intelligences in the Classroom (2018) by Dr. Thomas Armstrong will be studied, connections made to chapters, responses made to participants' posts, and a study guide completed for each chapter. Participants will view multiple intelligence activities implemented in schools that have achieved well with dealing with how students process information. The class will emphasize what each student is attracted to, becomes comfortable with, and skilled in different ways of processing information. This year, we are pleased to offer FREE CEUs and Act 48 credits for participants. As a reminder, these peer supervision sessions can focus on any challenge or dilemma you face in your role as a SSW. Don't let the name fool you-past discussions have included topics such as: Supporting students with school attendance concerns, navigating limited community resources, and managing ethical dilemmas or value conflicts with peers or supervisors. Restorative conferencing offers a structured and relational approach to bring together those who have caused harm those impacted by it, and members of the broader community to collectively address what happened, its impact, and how to move forward. Participants will learn how to create a safe space for accountability, support emotional healing, and rebuild trust through guided dialogue and mutual agreement.

People with developmental disabilities are often left out of the conversation about sexuality, almost as if they are incapable of having thoughts, feelings, and needs. In reality, they, too, are sexual beings who need information and skills for making healthy decisions about sexuality. As someone who works with people with developmental disabilities, you may be the most likely person they may approach with questions about sexuality. This training will help professionals become more comfortable talking about this sensitive topic by discussing what needs to be taught when. It will also review how to help people with developmental disabilities have safe and satisfying relationships. Headphones and a private space are recommended for these virtual sessions. Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Once your application is completed, you will want to share the Frontline certificate with your HR department. There is a $5 fee for the certification from PDE.
