1. SLS Council Meeting

Program: School Library System

The SLS Council meetings are designed to be a bridge between the School Library System team and the school librarians in each of the districts and non-public schools that are members of the system. Each district has a designated Council member who is required to attend the meetings but all members are welcome to attend. The morning will be the meeting and the afternoon will be a professional learning opportunity.

Asynchronous BUZZ course for TAs and Aides who have taken the level 1 TCIS certification Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) is a trauma-informed crisis prevention and management system. The TCIS system helps staff create a learning environment that decreases risk factors while increasing protective factors so both students and staff can feel safe. TCIS provides staff an understanding of trauma sensitive practices and skills (co-regulation) to help students learn how to regulate and manage their own emotions. These newly learned skills encourage a greater willingness and capacity for our students to learn.TCIS helps participants and schools to:
◉ Create a trauma-sensitive environment where students and adults are safe and feel safe within their roles as a staff member
◉ Pro-actively prevent and/or deescalate potential crisis situations with the students they work with
◉ Manage a crisis situation in a therapeutic manner, and, if necessary, intervene physically in a manner that reduces the risk of harm to students and staff
◉ Process the crisis event with students and each other to help improve their coping strategies to reduce future risk

5. Child Abuse Identification & Reporting (Certification Only)

Child Abuse Identification & Reporting

Mandated reporters can participate in this web-based online training course at any time, 24/7. Users must complete the course within the course duration which is the current school calendar year (2025-2026). Users learn definitions, indicators, and how to make a report to the New York Statewide Central Register. This course meets the New York State Education Department mandatory requirements for Training in Child Abuse Identification and Reporting. In accordance with Chapter 363 of the Laws of 2018, the Board of Regents adopted amendments to certain sections of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education related to Reports of Child Abuse in an Educational Setting.

Included Updates:
Chapter 56 of the Laws of 2021 amended Social Services Law § 413 to require additional training to include protocols to reduce implicit bias in decision-making processes, strategies for identifying adverse childhood experiences, and guidelines to assist in recognizing signs of abuse or maltreatment while interacting virtually.
Chapter 25 of the Laws of 2024 amended Social Services Law § 413 to require additional training to include protocols and guidance on identifying abused or maltreated children with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

The required training consists of a 3-hour asynchronous online training with accompanying assignments.

6. DASA: Harassment, Bullying, Cyberbullying, and Discrimination in Schools: Prevention and Intervention Certification Training

DASA: New York State's Dignity for All Student's Act (Dignity Act) seeks to provide NYS public elementary and secondary school students with a safe, supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function. The Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES is a NYSED approved provider of the Dignity Act certification training.



The required training consists of a 6-hour asynchronous online training with accompanying assignments.

7. SAVE: School Violence Prevention & Intervention Certification Course

Anyone applying for school certification after February 2, 2001 must complete 2 hours of training on school violence prevention and intervention. This workshop includes training in effective classroom management techniques, identifying the warning signs of violent and other troubling behavior, and intervention techniques for resolving violent incidents in the school. This training is intended for anyone working with children and in a school setting.

Topics Covered:

  1. The warning signs within a developmental and social context that relate to violence and other troubling behaviors in children;
  2. The statutes, regulations and policies relating to a safe nonviolent school climate.
  3. Effective classroom management techniques and other academic supports that promote a nonviolent school climate and enhance learning; character education, citizenship and civility.
  4. The integration of social and problem-solving skill development for students within the regular curriculum
  5. Intervention techniques designed to address a school violence situation;
  6. How to participate in an effective school/community referral process for students exhibiting violent behavior.
  7. Defining, identifying, intervening and ending bullying in all its forms, including cyberbullying.

The required training consists of a 2-hour asynchronous online training with accompanying assignments.

8. The Needs of Students with Autism Training

The Needs of Students with Autism

In response to the growing number of children being diagnosed with autism, the Legislature amended Sections 3004(4) and (5) of the Education Law to require all persons applying for a teaching certificate or license on or after September 2, 2009, as a special education teacher or as a school administrator who works in special education, to complete coursework or training in the needs of children with autism. This workshop will fulfill the NYSED requirement for Classroom Teaching Certification in all areas of Education. Participants of this course will learn about the characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as well as behavior supports and best instructional practices for supporting individuals with ASD. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will complete a certification of completion application that they can submit to the NYS Education Department along with other relevant forms when they apply for certification.

9. Elevating Student Voice in the K-12 Classroom

Student voice doesn't happen by accident-it's built through intentional instructional design. This workshop explores how cooperative structures can amplify student voice, agency, and engagement across grade levels and content areas. Participants will experience a variety of cooperative learning structures and learn how to support students in communicating effectively, thinking critically, and collaborating with peers. Educators will leave with practical instructional tools that ensure total participation and foster a student centered learning community.

10. Elevating Teacher and Student Design Skills with Canva

This workshop is for K-12 teachers and librarians ready to elevate their classroom and instructional materials. Canva is an online graphic design tool available to all teachers and students that can be used to create presentations, certificates, newsletters, and more! Participants will explore Canva's key features, brainstorm potential uses for students and design their own creations.

11. EdTomorrow: Tier 1 Foundational Frameworks Training (eLearning & virtual tutoring)

This foundational professional learning experience establishes a strong Tier 1 base within EdTomorrow's Whole-Child MTSS framework. Designed for all educators and staff, the training focuses on consistent, proactive classroom practices that strengthen engagement, improve learning conditions, and reduce the need for reactive discipline. Participants learn how to implement universal practices that support students as whole learners while building shared language, expectations, and routines across classrooms. Through research-informed strategies and hands-on application, educators gain practical tools they can use immediately to create more stable, connected, and productive learning environments. By the end of the session, participants feel confident using The First Five and Classroom Circles as foundational Tier 1 practices that strengthen relationships, support accountability, and set the conditions for academic success school wide. This is not a sit-and-get training. It is immersive, high-engagement experience that models the very practices educators are expected to use with students. Participants collaborate, reflect, and practice together, leaving with clear next steps and ready-to-use resources that align seamlessly with EdTomorrow's Whole-Child MTSS framework and existing school initiatives such as PBIS. 12. PBL 101 Workshop through PBL Works

Program: Professional Development Unit

Audience: K-12 Grade Educators

Dates: 7/28/2026 to 7/30/2026

In this workshop, participants will plan a Gold Standard project for their students and learn equity-centered teaching practices to facilitate high-quality PBL. The PBL 101 workshop models the Project Based Learning process.

Workshop Outcomes * Develop a personal vision for how Gold Standard PBL serves students and their communities. Plan Gold Standard projects that teach meaningful learning goals and are relevant to students and their communities.

* Include well-curated resources, effective learning experiences, and purposeful assessments to ensure that all students are appropriately challenged and supported as they move through the project path.

* Engage students in learner-centered practices driven by sustained inquiry throughout the project.

* Balance structure and flexibility in the project facilitation, using varied forms of evidence to ensure that all students grow in relation to learning goals.

Cost is based on 35 participants. If participation is not at max capacity, the cost per participant will be adjusted accordingly.

13. NY Inspires Update: A Competency-Based Vision

Audience: Administrators

The June 2026 Board of Regents meeting introduced New York State's vision for transitioning to a student-centered, competency-based system. While current graduation requirements remain unchanged, the information released provides an important look at the direction of future policy and the work that lies ahead.

In session, district leaders will examine the materials presented by NYSED, develop a deeper understanding of the proposed competency-based framework, and explore its potential implications for curriculum, instruction, assessment, learning pathways, and local systems. Through collaborative discussion and reflection, participants will identify opportunities, challenges, and key questions while considering how to prepare their districts to engage in the statewide co-design process that will shape New York's future system.

14. Structured Teaching and Sensory Processing for Young Autistic Students

Program: Professional Development Unit

Audience: Special education teachers, general education teachers, support staff, and paraprofessionals.

Dates: 8/10/2026 to 8/11/2026

This two-day training provides an in-depth overview of Structured Teaching, an evidence-based approach designed to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in educational settings. Participants will learn how clear structure, predictable routines, and visual supports can enhance student understanding, reduce challenging behaviors, and promote independence.

The session will focus on practical classroom strategies, including the physical organization of learning environments, visual schedules, work systems, task organization, sensory processing, and sensory profiles. Educators will explore how to effectively implement these supports across academic instruction, transitions, and daily routines.

In addition to learning foundational concepts and strategies, participants will have time to collaborate with classroom teams/each other and apply their learning to plan for the upcoming school year. Teams will be encouraged to develop classroom structures, visual supports, and implementation plans that can be put into practice.

Emphasis will be placed on realistic, easy-to-implement strategies that support student engagement and success in both inclusive and specialized educational settings. This training is intended primarily for new elementary staff seeking foundational knowledge of Structured Teaching and sensory processing.

15. One Day TIG (Trauma, Illness, and Grief) Essentials for Administrators

18. NYSED Numeracy Briefs for Elementary Teachers

This full-day session (9:00-2:00) helps elementary teachers understand and apply the key ideas from the New York State Education Department Numeracy Briefs. Participants will explore high-leverage content, instructional practices, the use of mathematical representations, and assessment to support strong mathematics instruction.

Through classroom examples and discussion, teachers will examine the instructional practices and learning experiences that support strong elementary mathematics teaching, including how to elicit student thinking, facilitate meaningful discussions, use representations, and support equitable learning for all students.

19. Effective Numeracy for Leaders

Join school and district leaders from across the region for a virtual professional learning series focused on advancing high-quality numeracy instruction and leadership. Together, we will explore current initiatives, emerging resources, and promising practices that support mathematics teaching and learning across New York State.

Through this collaborative community, participants will:
* Stay informed about updates, guidance, and resources from NYSED.
* Explore tools, strategies, and practices that support strong numeracy instruction for all learners.
* Use NYSED resources to strengthen decision-making around curriculum, instruction, intervention, assessment, and professional learning.
* Learn from the experiences of fellow leaders and examine examples of successful implementation from schools and districts across the region.
*Identify practical ideas and next steps to bring back to schools, districts, and leadership teams.

Each session will provide opportunities to engage in meaningful discussion, reflect on local priorities, and collaborate with colleagues who share a commitment to improving mathematics outcomes for all students. Participants will leave with new insights, actionable resources, and a growing network of leaders dedicated to strengthening numeracy education throughout the region.

21. LETRS 3e by Lexia for Units 5-8 (Second Year)

Program: Professional Development Unit

Audience: K-5 Teachers

Dates: 11/12/2026 to 5/6/2027

Must have completed Volume I (Units1-4) training to register/attend this session.

Lexia LETRS professional learning for elementary educators is an investment in teachers' literacy knowledge and professional practice. Teachers gain essential knowledge to master the fundamentals of literacy instruction required to transform student learning. Developed by Dr. Louisa Moats and leaders in the field of literacy, LETRS teaches the skills needed to master the foundational and fundamentals of reading and writing instruction-phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language.

LETRS has 8 Units with 6-8 sessions per unit. What the educator "will learn” is identified at the start of each session and is listed below.

Learning Goals:

Second year: LETRS Volume II (Units 5-8)

Focuses on the Language Comprehension strands of Scarborough's Rope model through units centered on:

* Vocabulary

* Language and reading

* Comprehension

* Writing

**Cost includes second year, units 5-8, only. Cost is based on 20 participants. Price will be adjusted according to actual enrollment. District is responsible to pay for enrollment regardless of attendance.**
