Learn the 14 teaching practices that research by Peter Liljedahl shows optimize conditions for students to think, which increases their engagement and learning. Get more students thinking, thinking more, and thinking longer! Teachers of all content areas welcome, Kindergarten through 12th Grade! **Please note that you need to purchase this book yourself for this PD opportunity.**
This workshop is for staff who have completed the initial training and require a REFRESHER. To continue being CPI-qualified, you must take a yearly refresher. This workshop will review the basic concepts of responding to various crisis levels and the corresponding intervention. To receive a CPI blue card, staff must demonstrate competency in CPI concepts and interventions. You must have completed the initial CPI training to attend this refresher course. This workshop will be offered on June 25, 2025 at the Gateway Center Progress Room from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The cost is $45.00, and it will be billed directly to your department or district. Please take note, Teacher Aides are required to attend the entire 3 hour portion of this training from 11-2. All other staff are only required to attend the last 2 hours of the course from 12-2. The workshop was developed by collaborating with the NYSASP, SPCNY, and Alberti Center for Bullying Abuse Prevention. HSAR is designed to improve skills, processes, and protocol for helping students at risk for suicide through: This training will: 1. Equipping educators with tools, knowledge, and skills to assist students having thoughts of suicide or engaging in suicidal behavior. 2. It is understanding the value of pre-planning and standardized procedures for intervention. 3. Identifying the value of collaboration and shared decision-making between school mental health professionals, community providers, and students and their families. 4. Reviewing documentation of suicide intervention. 5. Preparing to implement standardized procedures that reflect best-practice intervention. Registration is opened to School professionals, including psychologists, school counselors, social workers, school administrators who are involved in the helping process when a student may be at risk for suicide, and community mental health providers who work with and in schools. It is meant for those directly involved in crisis situations and focuses on teaching de-escalation techniques and non-restrictive interventions. The INITIAL training is delivered through blended learning, consisting of an online component and an in-person session. All staff who register for this workshop must first complete the online portion, for which a link will be provided. The online training covers the basic concepts of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, including definitions, concepts, and activities. The second portion involves a 3-hour in-person session. During this session, we will discuss how to apply the models and techniques learned online, and participants will practice these skills in the classroom. Staff will learn and practice physical training for CPI intervention, which includes physical interventions, disengagement techniques, and holding skills. It is important to note that completing the online portion is a prerequisite for participation in the in-person session. The in-person workshop will take place on August 27, 2025, from 12 PM to 3:00 PM at the Progress Room in the Gateway Center, Herkimer BOCES, located at 420 East German Street, Herkimer, NY.
