1. 2024 NYS Computer Science & Digital Fluency Summer Institute - Grades K - 8 (Smart Start)

4 Day Summer Institute (day 5 is optional) will immersed attendees in the NYS Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards as well as the NYS Social Emotional Learning Benchmarks. Each session will include inclusion activities, engaging strategy, brain breaks and optimistic closings. Educators will experience the standards at work and facilitators will model the standards and instructional technology integration throughout the 4 days while using research artifacts such as articles, videos, and learning experience to increase the knowledge of the attendees. Overarching NYS Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards will be embedded throughout the entire experience are Digital Literacy Standards and Impact of Computing Standards. Educators will adapt and/or create new lessons/units tied to the learning throughout the cohort to integrate the NYS CSDF Standards.

The four-day Summer Institute includes:  

  • Day #1 - Overview of standards and the "Why", Scope of the Year Ahead, Introduction to Computational Thinking, and Explore & Experience Computational Thinking 
  • Day #2 - Explore and experience the Impacts of Computing and Networks & System Design Concept areas. TPACK Framework integration  
  • Day #3 - Explore and experience the Cybersecurity Concept & Digital Literacy Standards areas and interactive stations with plugged and unplugged learning experiences.  
  • Day #4 - Lesson Creation and presentation, Portfolio Overview 
  • Day #5 - Optional - facilitated work time on lesson adaptation and portfolio creation 

    Attendees: Please bring computer, lesson and or unit to adapt, and lunch
