1. TLI Winter Event - NY State of Drones

This daylong event will focus on the topic of the future of Drones. Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (drones) are a dynamic, emerging technology that will quiet literally transform industries and have an economic impact of $100 billion by 2020. In this daylong session we will explore the role of Drones across thousands of vertical industries, what is the current state of initiatives in New York State and how can be prepare our students with the skills needed in this rapidly developing market. The keynote speakers Brian Pitre, Founder and CEO of Skyop. SkyOp is providing blended learning courses, certification, test prep and flight training for drones and small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) for students and adults. Joining Brian this day are staff from Genius NY and NUIAR (Northeast UAS Airspace Integration Research Alliance). The NUAIR Alliance is a New York based not-for-profit coalition of more than 200 private and public entities and academic institutions working together to operate and oversee Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) testing in New York, Massachusetts and Michigan. NUAIR is at the forefront of public policy development, commercialization, and integration of UAS technology. GENIUS NY is an in-residence business accelerator program at The Tech Garden in Central New York that goes beyond substantial direct investment. In addition to the grand prize of $1 million and four prizes of $500,000, the program also offers incubator space, company stipends, advisors, resources, programming, and connections, making it among the largest competitions of its kind across the globe. The program is made possible by $5 million in funding support provided by Empire State Development, New York State’s chief economic development agency. 2. activ=con 2018

Program: LHRIC - Technology Leadership Institute (TLI)

activ-con is a full day conference for explorers, leaders, and innovators in K-12 active learning spaces. activ-con attendees will not “sit n’ get” their learning as in traditional conference experiences; instead, attendees will join their fellow explorers in a series of learning excursions actively investigate interesting strategies, practices, and challenges. Participants can also interact with peers, vendors and experts throughout the day. The keynote speakers for activ-con are Dr. Robert Dillon, Director of Innovation and Learning at University City School District in Missouri, and Dr. Gene M. Kearns, Vice President and Chief Academic Officer at Renaissance Learning.

3. Celebration of Teaching and Learning - TELL Awards

Program: LHRIC - Technology Leadership Institute (TLI)

This event is a celebration of excellence in the Region. The prestigious TELL award is bestowed upon Teachers and Leaders nominated by their colleagues and peers as demonstrating innovation, best practices, and having implemented systemic change in teaching and learning. Join us for this celebration and find out what the strategies are behind these success stories. New this year are the student poster sessions where students will demonstrate how the work of these educators has impacted their learning experience. The Keynote speaker for this year’s event is Jen Waldman. Jen helps people hone in on their unique gifts, empowering them to take action with authenticity and heart. Using her background in the arts, she encourages creative thinking and imagination, so that others can cultivate new ideas and share them with the world. Jen and Simon Sinek united several years ago when Simon became aware that Jen was using the Golden Circle to inspire artists to make a greater impact with their work. The two recognized that by combining their efforts they could help people across many different industries discover their WHY and bring it to life. Jen now travels the world offering Why-inspired keynotes and workshops on leadership, communication, and presentation skills so that individuals and organizations can have more impact with their ideas. In addition to her work with Start With Why, Jen is the Founder and Executive Director of Jen Waldman Studio, New York City’s premiere training studio for Broadway actors. She has worked with over a thousand artists to develop and nurture their creative voice and technique. Jen is particularly inspired by and dedicated to mentoring young people. She recently served a 5 year term as the Theatre Chair for the National Young Arts Foundation and is a professor at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. 4. Tech Expo

Program: LHRIC - Technology Leadership Institute (TLI)

This is the LHRIC’s capstone teaching and learning event for the year! This event is designed for district stakeholders from across the region as a showcase for what works, what we should look forward to, and even what to avoid as we move to a more personalized learning environment across all teaching and learning. The LHRIC is frequently asked to help districts learn about what others are doing well, and what should we be paying attention to. This is that event! The keynote speaker for TLI Tech Expo is Liz Kolb. Celebrated professor, classroom teacher, presenter, and author. Her most recent publication is Learning First, Technology Second where she demonstrates her Triple E Framework for assessing the effectiveness of technology in lesson plans.
