    96. Attendance Matters: Initiatives for Student Success (included for 563 members)

Program: 2025-2026 - Community Schools and Resources

Audience: school social workers, counselors, and psychologists

    Dates: 3/12/2026

    Starting Soon
This workshop is designed for school social workers, counselors, and psychologists to shift the paradigm on student attendance from a punitive approach to a preventative, supportive, and success-oriented one. Participants will learn how to identify the root causes of chronic absenteeism and develop evidence-based, tiered interventions to ensure every student is present and engaged in learning.

Beginning with the 2025-26 school year, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) is replacing the Chronic Absenteeism indicator with a new Attendance indicator, focusing on four-level tracking of student attendance percentages.

Through data analysis, team-based planning, and collaborative discussion, participants will:

    1. Analyze Attendance Data and Identify Root Causes

    2. Implement Tiered Interventions

    3. Strengthen Collaboration and Family Engagement

Participants will leave with a structured plan for implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for attendance and concrete tools to significantly reduce chronic absenteeism, fostering greater student engagement and success.

CEU available for school social workers, school psychologist and speech therapist

For questions regarding registration, please contact sclarke@swboces.org.

    97. The Science of Reading Essentials: What every educator should know

    Program: 2025-2026 - Literacy & ELA

Audience: Teachers, administrators, instructional coaches, reading specialists, department chairs

    Dates: 3/12/2026

This session introduces educators to the foundational principles of the Science of Reading (SoR). Participants will explore the core components, dispel common myths, and identify evidence-based instructional practices. Participants will have the opportunity to take a more focused look and deeper dive into the NYSED frameworks including the 7 Literacy briefs and the NYS best practices guide. Participants will engage in strengthening their core knowledge base, while creating a plan of action for their work towards the implementation of strategic literacy instruction.

We welcome teams of teachers, administrators, instructional coaches, reading specialists, department chairs, and all for whom literacy instruction is integral, to join us as leaders of literacy.

    98. WIT 101: Combinations and the Power of Syntax - for Superintendent's Conference Day - at Sullivan BOCES [HVRBERN-CTLE ID #23120]

    Program: 2025-2026 - HV RBERN

    Dates: 3/13/2026

    ClosedStarting Soon
SYNTACTIC AWARENESS is a game-changer for multilingual learners, supporting their reading comprehension, written and oral expression, content acquisition and knowledge of the English language all at once! COMBINATIONS involves explicit instruction in syntactical (sentence-level) routines that develop all domains of academic literacy simultaneously. These multiplier strategies are especially powerful for English learners because they also teach how the English language works.

Please join us for this hands-on, introductory workshop based on ideas from the book, Sentence Strategies for Multilingual Learners: Advancing Academic Literacy through Combinations (Routledge, 2023). You will learn how and why Combinations works to advance academic literacy for all students. You will leave with activities for immediate use that tap into and draw upon students' cultural and linguistic assets and that provide access to deep content learning and English language development concurrently.

Participants should bring a device to access workshop materials.

For questions regarding this activity, please contact the HV RBERN.

    100. [LHRIC TLI] TELL Awards 2026

Program: LHRIC - Technology Leadership Institute (TLI)

    Dates: 3/16/2026

    Starting Soon
The Technology in Education through Leadership and Learning (TELL) is an annual awards ceremony that allows us to celebrate and learn from educators and leaders from across the region who transform education. Awardees apply for or are nominated by their peers for their outstanding accomplishments and innovation and are recognized by LHRIC leadership through a selection and review process.

A message from John Spencer, our TLI Keynote for TELL

    Vintage Innovation:
For years, we were taught a formula. Go to school, get good grades, graduate from a university, and climb the corporate ladder. But with the advent of generative AI, the ladder is gone and our students will instead navigate a complex maze. This is why the best way to prepare students for the future is to empower them in the present. In this keynote, we explore what it means to use vintage ideas, tools, and strategies in new and relevant ways. Here, we focus on innovation as a focus on "what is best" rather than "what is next." We focus on the skills, habits, and mindsets students will need as they navigate this unpredictable future - often the very competencies that align with your Profile of a Learner.

    101. Restorative Practices for School & District Leaders for RECOVS Mental Health Grant Consortium (March 2026)

Program: RECOVS Mental Health Grant Year 2 (2025)

Audience: Please note that this training is limited to personnel from districts who are part of SWBOCES's RECOVS Mental Health Grant Consortium.

    Dates: 3/16/2026

    Starting Soon
Please note that this training is limited to leaders from districts who are part of SWBOCES's RECOVS Mental Health Grant Consortium. If you have questions about whether you are eligible to attend, please contact Maisha Campbell (mcampbell@swboces.org). The training will focus on:

    • Restorative practices as a trauma-informed approach for creating a culture of belonging, safety, and inclusion.

    • Responsive restorative practices, including Affective Communication/Non-Violent Communication, Tier 2 Whole Group Responsive Circles, and Tier 2 Restorative Circles to respond to specific incidents of harm.

    • Systemic considerations, including implementation science and discipline policies and practices (e.g. Codes of Conduct)

A highly engaging Restorative Pedagogy will be utilized for the delivery of in-person instruction. For questions regarding this activity, please contact mcampbell@swboces.org.
