Location: North Rockland High School (North Rockland HS, )
Dates: 10/20/2026 to 12/15/2026
This course bridges the gap between foundational reading research and secondary instructional practices. Designed for middle and high school educators across content areas (ELA, Social Studies, Science, Math, and Special Education), this course explores the cognitive science behind how adolescent students process complex text. Participants will study the advanced demands of Scarborough's Reading Rope, focusing heavily on morphology, advanced academic vocabulary routines, syntax, and sentence mechanics. Furthermore, educators will learn to embed strategic schema-building, text-structure analysis, and structured summarizing models directly into secondary disciplinary curricula to support struggling readers and enhance text comprehension for all students. *If you are taking this course for Graduate Credit, participants must also register with Manhattanville through Instant Enrollment on Service Hub. Email Colleen Gill at cgill@rockteach.org for more information. Note: Official graduate transcripts will not be available until the official end of the college semester.
