Schools are considered the institution where young adults prepare themselves for their future. But how many students actually leave high school with a concrete plan or direction after graduation? This training will ask you to consider difficult questions as we answer "Why Career Development?" Take a moment and answer these questions - How would my school define - Success Ready Student? Where do we systemically support Career Development in our curriculum? Do we believe all students should have a future plan? Participants will be asked to reflect on current practices, weigh the progress, and establish action steps to reach the desired goals they have for their school community. We will discuss a progression sequence when using worksheets, activities, and assessments within Missouri Connections and introduce the Middle and High School Frameworks to support career development grades 5-12.

Participants should bring a laptop or similar device.

In this five-part series, we will dive deeply into literacy learning and teaching. We will explore best practices in reading and writing instruction and we will work together collaboratively to problem solve issues relevant to our classrooms and students. The format will be very interactive and adaptive. A book study will be part of the program this year. The book will be included in the price of the first workshop and will be handed out during that session.

By Invitation Only. This training will consist of 4 days throughout the school year and is designed for SW-PBS school teams that have demonstrated readiness to develop a Tier 3 system of individualized support. School teams will build on the established school-wide system to develop an efficient process to serve high-risk students by learning how to conduct a Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) & use the results to develop a basic Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP). Sessions include instruction for collecting relevant student data using a variety of techniques, interpreting data to determine a competing pathway, identification of function-based intervention strategies, writing behavioral goals, options for monitoring implementation & student progress. Teams will engage in a guided practice opportunity for conducting a functional assessment & developing an appropriate intervention plan using data from a student in their own setting. Participants will use an evaluation rubric to assess features of their practice FBA-BIP.

Session 1 - Purposes of a Tier 3 team and establishing data decision rules for student identification.

Recommended participants: School administrator, participant with behavioral expertise, and participant with academic expertise. This will form your Tier 3 Core Team.

    This 4-day academy will provide preschool teachers the opportunity to learn creative and interactive strategies in early literacy and math. Each session will prepare you on how to create unforgettable learning experiences that your children will be engaged in and excited about! Below is just a tidbit of what our days will look like:
  • Day 1: Oral Language Connection to Early Literacy
    Oral language is the heart of literacy instruction. We'll focus on speaking, listening, & conversational skills. We'll look at vocabulary strategies and ways to make purposeful talk in the classroom. A big chunk of our day will be on phonological awareness and how it connects everything together.
  • Day 2: Early Reading Skills
    Our day will be splashed with skills that we can give our young learners as they become readers. Rhyming, finger plays, poems, letter recognition, comprehension, sound discrimination, & environmental print is just a sampling of our day.
  • Day 3: The WRITE Stuff for Early Learners
    What does writing look like at the pre-k level? We know that when young children see themselves as real-live authors it connects them to books in a profound way. This session presents strategies and activities to initiate writing activities.
  • Day 4: Math That Matters
    There are many opportunities for our young children to learn math skills! This session will be packed with hands-on learning as we help our early learners develop good number sense!

    Participants are expected to attend all 4 days.
    This training is approved through Missouri Workshop Calendar so you'll earn clock hours.

    With greater emphasis being placed on schools to graduate "success ready" students, the time has come for all educators to take on the responsibility of guiding students through career planning. It is imperative that Teachers as well as School Counselors have a working knowledge of the resources available through Missouri Connections and the Individual Career Academic Plan (ICAP). Consider for a moment, how important it is for you as an educator to know a students' interests, or likes/dislikes. Would this information help you design a lesson to reach a student? This interactive workshop will provide hands-on activities using Missouri Connections to demonstrate the resources School Counselors and Teachers can use to support career planning with their students. Participants will learn why Missouri Connections is a valuable tool for your students, while also providing a teaching resource to enrich a class lesson. Participants will have the opportunity to explore Missouri Connections; learning how easy one can navigate through the program. During the workshop, participants will be introduced to two assessments, explore several career pathways, and see the how assessment results contribute to a student's ICAP.

    8. Culture and Communication! MLDS: Developing Year 1

    The Missouri Leadership Development System (MLDS) is a continuum of learning and supports provided to school leaders from aspiring to retiring. In addition to content available for aspiring school leaders, five levels of support comprise MLDS: Emerging Year 1, Emerging Year 2, Developing Year 1, Developing Year 2 and Transformational Leadership. School leaders will want to invest in their own professional development by attending each level of training.

    The Missouri Leadership Development System (MLDS) Developing Year 1 provides principals:
    •A continuum of training and support through research based learning experiences that can be completed as a series or individually selected
    •Opportunities to develop formal and informal professional networks

    Developing Year 1 Regional Meeting 1 focuses on Culture and Communication. Participants will:

    •Explore extraordinary constituent groups
    •Learn best practices for communicating through print, visuals and social media
    •Develop skills for consensus decision making
    It is recommended that school leaders invest in their own professional development by attending all four Developing Year 1 trainings: Culture and Communication; Managing Change and Developing Habits; Next Level Coaching; and Hiring and Retaining Quality Staff. Sign up for each individually.

    9. LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) Cohort 1: 4 day series

    Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) provides K-5 teachers with the tools and understanding to teach the essential skills needed for literacy. Teachers learn the "science of reading" so they are able to apply research into classroom application no matter the curriculum or program used. The 'blended learning' format of this series includes face-to-face learning through structured models and online tutorials/videos of effective classroom instruction. Hot breakfast and parking are included in registration. Lunch on your own.

    SPECIAL NOTES: 1) There are four 'face to face' dates for this workshop series. We will focus on each of the four LETRS units respectively.
    Day 1/Unit 1: The Challenge of Learning to Read
    Day 2/Unit 2: The Speech Sounds of English

    1. Participants will deepen their understanding of the value of fostering a safe, predictable, and consistent learning environment - one that is #TraumaInvested.
    2. Participants will be introduced to the new 3 R's - an intervention model packed full of multiple strategies for education staff and community members to utilize with children and staff with (known and unknown) trauma histories - helping to sustain learning-ready (and teaching-ready) states.

    DESCRIPTION

    In this continuing exploration of #TraumaInvested practice, join childhood trauma expert Kristin Souers and former principal Pete Hall (authors of the best-selling and award-winning Fostering Resilient Learners : Strategies for creating a trauma-sensitive classroom - ASCD, 2016) as they share keen insights into the practices of empathy and attunement and discuss a communication strategy built to strengthen connection and understanding. Learn the characteristics of a Culture of Safety, and implement timely interventions for our students by addressing the New 3 R's in education: Relationships, Responsibility, and Regulation. Using scenarios, research, and a bank of strategies, collaborate with your colleagues to brainstorm approaches to meet our students' needs. Attendees will leave refreshed and excited about meeting the challenges awaiting them, with tools in the toolbelt and the energy and optimism needed to use them!

    Missouri Schoolwide Positive Behavior Supports (MO SW-PBS) will host a series of workshops designed for Emerging/Implementation Phase school teams. Content will emphasize deeper understanding and implementation of the Essential Components of SW-PBS, implementation of effective classroom practices, and the use of data for quality decision-making. For current SW-PBS Emerging/Implementation Phase schools only.




    •Apply the Science of Behavior to essential SW-PBS concepts.


    •Develop a plan for successful implementation with staff, students and families.


    •Increase student time on task through the use of active supervision.


    •Increase student engagement through increased opportunities to respond.

    Teachers are being asked to change roles and to become facilitators of student learning. To accomplish this in mathematics, they are often required to practice "ambitious teaching." In ambitious teaching, the teacher provides students with challenging tasks and then observes and listens, offering appropriate support as needed. Students may be working on their own, in pairs, or in collaborative groups. The goal is to ensure that every student succeeds in doing meaningful, high-quality work, not just completing procedures with no meaning attached.

    This series of workshops--beginning with two workshops this summer and continuing into the 2019-2020 school year--is suitable for the K-6 teacher and will take a deep look at teaching in mathematics. In Session I of the series, we will dig into the ideas of Growth Mindset and the need to support Productive Struggle in our classrooms.

    Hands-on activities, games, and time for reflection and discourse will encourage participants to make connections with these ideas and to identify where they are occurring or where they could easily be added to their own classroom practices.

    Join me as we tackle the challenges of ambitious teaching by taking a deeper look at Growth Mindset and Productive Struggle.

    *Each session is a stand-alone workshop, so teachers may choose which workshops will be most meaningful for them. Individual sessions will be $100; HOWEVER, teachers who choose to attend all six sessions will receive a discount--with the final cost being $450.

    MLDS Developing Level/Leadership Academy provides support and development for leaders entering years 3+ in an administrative role. This series of meetings will provide developing level leaders the activities and skills to continue their growth as a leader.     17. September Compliance Connection: North St.Francois County

    Compliance Connection is a monthly meeting between regional educators and Southeast RPDC Special Education Compliance Consultant, Tiffiney Smith. During each of these monthly meetings, DESE Special Education updates will be shared along with information regarding other various Special Education Compliance topics such as Special Education Laws and Regulations, Discipline Process for Students with Disabilities, Special Education Data and Data Analysis for Improving Student Outcomes, Eligibility Determinations and IEP Implementation. In addition to information sharing, time will be provided for individuals to ask specific questions. Technical assistance will be provided on an as needed basis to anyone who may need assistance with Special Education Compliance related issues. The meetings are open to any district staff member who has a role in Special Education, this may include District and Building Administrators, Special Education Directors, and Process Coordinators.

    Due to space limitations at the specific regional locations, each individual who plans on attending, will need to register through My Learning Plan so that we can ensure adequate and appropriate accommodations and materials.

    Teacher academy participants obtain skills in curriculum design, using data to drive instruction, the effective use of instructional strategies, and increasing student engagement. Through reflective practice, teachers embark on a year long project, which focuses on improving student learning. Teacher leadership capacity is an expected outcome of the program, and participating teachers develop the ability to provide support and training for their colleagues within their home district. The Teacher Academy focus is centered on student engagement, instructional strategies, and reflection on practices that align with the Missouri State Teacher Standards.

    Teacher Academy is designed to provide participants with an intellectually stimulating opportunity to learn and implement new teaching strategies in collaboration with other highly committed teachers in their region and throughout the state.

    Participation is open to Missouri K-12 teachers: with three years of classroom experience, with demonstrated classroom effectiveness, and with a commitment to sustained professional growth.

    Participation requires 8 release days, which include two statewide meetings and 6 regional sessions.

    Tuition, transportation, food and substitutes will be the responsibility of the school or individual.

    20. Experienced MAP-A Training

    This training is for Special Education personnel who are NEW to the administration of the MAP-A, and for those who need to be familiar with the DLM process. Participants will learn the vocabulary and the steps of the administration of the MAP-A to their students. Participants will learn how the various levels of the map work together to create a dynamic test for each individual student, how to select appropriate Essential Elements based upon the blueprints and the grade level, and how to integrate instructionally relevant testlets into the classroom instruction regularly. Additionally, participants will learn how to use Educator Portal. Important dates to remember will be discussed. Participants need to bring their school calendars which will be used as they develop a plan and their own "to do list" for administration of the MAP-A during the 2018-19 school year. Participants must also download and print the latest versions of the Test Administration Manual and the Accessibility Manual. A link will be sent out to each participant for these documents closer to the training dates.     Schools are considered the institution where young adults prepare themselves for their future. But how many students actually leave high school with a concrete plan or direction after graduation? This training will ask you to consider difficult questions as we answer...Why Career Development? Take a moment and answer these questions - How would my school define - Success Ready Student? Where do we systemically support Career Development in our curriculum? Do we believe all students should have a future plan? Participants will be asked to reflect on current practices, weigh the progress, and establish action steps to reach the desired goals they have for their school community. We will discuss a progression sequence when using worksheets, activities, and assessments within Missouri Connections and introduce the Middle and High School Frameworks to support career development grades 5-12.

    Compliance Connection is a monthly meeting between regional educators and Southeast RPDC Special Education Compliance Consultant, Tiffiney Smith. It is imperative that Teachers as well as School Counselors have a working knowledge of the resources available through Missouri Connections and the Individual Career Academic Plan (ICAP). Consider for a moment, how important it is for you as an educator to know a students' interests, or likes/dislikes. Would this information help you design a lesson to reach a student? This interactive workshop will provide hands-on activities using Missouri Connections to demonstrate the resources School Counselors and Teachers can use to support career planning with their students.     Over 40 percent of new teachers leave the profession within the first five years. Most of the research shows a perceived lack of support and absence of job-related professional learning as the root cause. Teachers often feel alone and isolated - fearful of asking for help. All new teachers are required to participate in a beginning teacher assistance program during their first two years of teaching.

    Our Survivor program for beginning teachers is aligned with professional development/growth plans focused on teaching standards and indicators as priorities for the first two years of teaching and provides on-going support during the year of BTAP.

    South Central RPDC - Survivor Series creates an opportunity for growth with other beginning teachers.

    Session 3 and 4 - Teams work toward implementation of The Behavior Education Program: Check-in/Check-out (CICO), a research-based intervention. Clear entry and exit criteria are established for the CICO intervention, and data to be collected for progress monitoring is identified. Specific learner outcomes include: identifying implementation components of CICO, describing students most likely to benefit from this intervention, explore research associated with CICO, designing and implementing a CICO program for participant schools, delivering implementation training to school-level stakeholders (staff, piloting teachers, students, and families).

    This training is intended for MO SW-PBS schools that have already completed the first year of Tier 3 training.

    Two (2) Sessions for Tier 3 Systems and Advanced Practices - T3A 1 and T3A 2: The purpose of these sessions is to assist school teams that are already experienced in FBA-BIP to further develop a team-based approach to intensive, individualized behavior support. Focus will be on-going guided practice with the FBA-BIP process and a deeper understanding of using effective strategies when developing the behavior plan. Teams will have the opportunity to participate in case-study examples. There will also be an in-depth study of data collection and metric selection, exploration of research, managing and organizing student file information, and analyzing systems and practices for data management and decision making.

    Two (2) Sessions for Tier 3 Advanced Communities of Practice - T3A Comm 1 and T3A Comm2: These sessions are designed for schools who have completed Tier 3 Systems and initial FBA/BIP training. Topics for these trainings will include monitoring fidelity of implementation, determining the extent to which stakeholders value interventions currently in place using social validity data, working to engage and support families of students receiving Tier 3 interventions, evaluating outcomes, and impact of intervention on student achievement. Tier 3 teams will also have the opportunity to share information, resources, practices, and ideas with other teams.

She hopes new MSIP Director Dr. Lori Sallee will accompany her. They plan to speak on MSIP VI, but they will cover other topics of interest as they arise.

    Our third guest will be Shaun Bates. Shaun is the Director of Assessment for the Office of College and Career Readiness. He will be speaking about 2019-2020 updates, but his major focus will be on answering your questions. This is an opportunity to talk about the IARs (Item Analysis Reports), released items, scoring - any questions you have regarding assessments.

    In addition to these individuals, we will hear from Jill Janes, area supervisor, and RPDC Director Jim Judd.

    Missouri has new personal finance standards, and the Missouri Council on Economic Education and Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis have joined efforts to bring you a FREE, active, and interesting curriculum aligned with those standards.

    The goal of this workshop is to introduce resources that will enable students and teachers to make better personal finance decisions. Lessons are differentiated, with online modules, videos, podcasts and hands-on, up-out-of-your seat activities that bring excitement along with learning. Be sure to bring your computer; we will help you set up your curriculum.

The morning will focus on a basic understanding of school-wide positive behavior supports, in which, participants will examine the following key components; setting classrooms expectations, establishing procedures and routines, understanding majors and minors and teaching socially appropriate social skills based on the school-wide matrix. The afternoon portion will focus on the eight Effective Teaching and Learning Practices.


    Outcomes: By the end of the day, participants will have a basic understanding of Schoolwide Positive Behavior Supports and how to implement it with fidelity within the classroom.

    Quality mentors are needed to provide reassurance, guidance, and practical assistance to new teachers as they begin their teaching career. This program will focus on building the professional relationship between the mentor and new teacher to make the most of the beginning teacher program. Additionally, the roles, duties, and responsibilities of the mentor and beginning teacher will be addressed, including certification and professional development requirements.

    Previously, Mentor/New Teacher Paired Training and the New Teacher Induction Academy were two separate programs; however, these two programs have now been melded into one where mentors participate in two sessions of the Beginning Teacher Assistance Program-Year 1 with their mentee. [Please see note below regarding initial training session in August.]

    All mentors will need to attend these two sessions with their mentee. Mentors are asked to bring the following 3 items to both sessions:
    1. a copy of the Mentoring section from the district's Professional Development Plan,
    2. the Individual Professional Development Plan form and any other documentation required by the district for the mentoring process, and
    3. the district Mentor/Mentee Handbook.

    [Mentors who have not previously attended a New Teacher Academy/BTAP Mentor Training will also need to attend an initial mentor training session in August. Core content of this training will include the Mentor Standards. Please register for this training separately.]

Recommended participants: A building administrator along with school personnel who are designated to facilitate the intervention group, and at least one general education classroom teacher should attend these training sessions together.

Determine readiness with data assessments (TFI, SAS, SET) for development of Tier 2 criteria, to ensure Tier 1 remains fully in place and analyze for action planning.     Over 40 percent of new teachers leave the profession within the first five years. Most of the research shows a perceived lack of support and absence of job-related professional learning as the root cause. Teachers often feel alone and isolated - fearful of asking for help. All new teachers are required to participate in a beginning teacher assistance program during their first two years of teaching.

    Our Survivor program for beginning teachers is aligned with professional development/growth plans focused on teaching standards and indicators as priorities for the first two years of teaching and provides on-going support during the year of BTAP.

    South Central RPDC - Survivor Series creates an opportunity for growth with other beginning teachers.

All aspects of the Essential Components of SW-PBS will be reviewed and analyzed as a part of this implementation process. Teams will begin to prepare for the transition to Tier 2 interventions. These sessions are for current Tier 1 Emerging Advanced teams only.

    Outcomes for the sessions include:
    ** Engage staff in renewing ongoing commitment to a positive, proactive and instructional approach to discipline.

In this workshop, participants will learn about the Check & Connect intervention and how to implement it in their school.

    Rather than dropout prevention, Check & Connect emphasizes school completion. It seeks to help students graduate from high school with social, emotional, and academic competence. As a Tier 2 or Tier 3 intervention, Check & Connect is designed to work with existing successful school-wide initiatives, not to replace them.

    This Check & Connect workshop is Comprehensive Implementation Training for school teams that should include administrators and mentors.

    96. Rebooting Your School's Response to Intervention (RTI)

    Is your school or district looking for an opportunity to jumpstart your RTI process? Have you implemented RTI successfully in the past but drifted away from the practices that made you successful? Or perhaps you have implemented an RTI program, but did not see the growth you hoped for or struggled to implement with fidelity? First, we will discuss the role that individual and collective teacher efficacy plays in creating a culture to support the best practices necessary for a successful RTI program. Then, we will discuss each of the three tiers associated with RTI and the best practices for each one, including interventions and the appropriate data-teaming processes. Powerful engagement and formative assessment strategies will be modeled throughout the training, providing teachers with instructional tools they can take back and use in their classrooms the next day to boost Tier I instruction. Finally, we will look at a variety of structures and strategies to progress monitor, conduct action research into your most effective interventions, and ensure they are implemented with fidelity.

    This workshop focuses on the areas of most common noncompliance including, but not limited to, discipline, IEP development and evaluations/reevaluations. Provides hands-on training using the model forms, the Standards and Indicators Manual and the State Plan for Special Education.

    98. Survivor BTAP- Emerging Level I WASHINGTON - Day 1

    Over 40 percent of new teachers leave the profession within the first five years. Most of the research shows a perceived lack of support and absence of job-related professional learning as the root cause. Teachers often feel alone and isolated - fearful of asking for help. All new teachers are required to participate in a beginning teacher assistance program during their first two years of teaching.

    Our Survivor program for beginning teachers is aligned with professional development/growth plans focused on teaching standards and indicators as priorities for the first two years of teaching and provides on-going support during the year of BTAP.

    South Central RPDC - Survivor Series creates an opportunity for growth with other beginning teachers.

    This year, we are excited to add a mentor component to our well-designed beginning teacher training. Mentors may join their mentee at any Survivor session for $20.     Attendance fulfills the Beginning Teacher Assistance Program (BTAP) requirement for certification renewal/upgrade.

    SW-PBS is a process for creating safer and more effective schools by structuring the learning environment to support the academic and social success of all students. The process supports the adoption and long-term implementation of efficient and effective discipline throughout the school environment. PBS methods are research-based and proven to significantly reduce the occurrence of problem behaviors in schools. The primary goals of SW-PBS are to prevent the development of inappropriate behavior, reduce ongoing patterns of problem behavior, and to increase the likelihood of improved academic performance of all students through teaching and learning time gained when the numbers of inappropriate behaviors are reduced. As staffs learn how to consistently embed the teaching and monitoring of appropriate social and behavior skills into the school day and curriculum, they also learn to anticipate how to structure school environments so that the appropriate skills will be utilized more often. It is important that schools actively communicate with families so that they understand and support the SW-PBS process. Families can also benefit from learning how to use similar strategies for teaching and supporting their children's appropriate social and behavior skills.

    100. SW-PBS Tier 2 - Systems and Tools

    Program: RPDC - Central

    Location: 9 UCM University Union (Warrensburg, MO) [map]

    Audience: Building administrator & at least 2 additional staff members w/expertise and/or interest in specialized behavior support

    Dates: 9/26/2019 to 2/27/2020

    Missouri SW-PBS will host a series of 4 sessions for schools that have completed Tier 1 training and are ready to transition to developing Tier 1 interventions for SW-PBS framework. During these sessions, teams receive an overview of Tier 2 purposes, research, and intervention examples. They assess fidelity of Tier 1 implementation and determine their school's readiness for developing a Tier 2 system. As an initial outcome, the Tier 2 team develops a systematic process for identifying students at-risk of developing problem behaviors, which includes use of data decision rules and a teacher nomination process.

    Outcomes for these sessions include:
    ** Review instructional approaches to discipline and identify key features of a Tier 2 system and characteristics of effective intervention with a process of intensifying supports for students.
    ** Determine readiness with data assessments (TFI, SAS, SET) for development of Tier 2 criteria, to ensure Tier 1 remains fully in place and analyze for action planning.
    ** Develop a Tier 2 team having roles and responsibilities to make decisions about students receiving Tier 2 supports.
    ** Develop a process that includes a minimum of two data sources to accurately identify students with internalizing and/or externalizing social, emotional, or behavioral risk factors.
    ** Identify and select interventions that fit the needs and context of students and staff.
    ** Develop a process for selecting function based interventions that match student need.
    ** Develop an efficient and effective process for gathering and reviewing relevant student data.
    ** Identify key fidelity and social validity measures to ensure generalization and maintenance of skills across settings.
    ** Complete the Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI).

    Aligns with and supports Missouri Teacher Standards: Standard #2, Quality Indicator 1; #5, Quality Indicator 1, #7, Quality Indicator 6; #8, Quality Indicator 2.

    SW-PBS Coaches/Teams of Tier 2, Advanced schools will meet together to learn about designing a complete Tier 2 system of support for students and network together to share successful SW-PBS practices. During this training, teams receive a continuation of Tier 2 purposes, research, and intervention examples. Teams will work to develop Social Skills Lessons intervention.

    It is encouraged you bring a coach, team members and administrator to the meetings.
